As a former owner of a Caterham 7, which I drove anywhere and everywhere, in all weathers, I love the concept of the Twizzy. For short journeys it looks like great fun. The biggest downsides for me are the price of a used on in tne UK, and the likely cost of replacement batteries. I do wish there were a lot more really simple EVs like the Twizzy, but at a realistic price point... you can buy a 'proper' car for less money.
Total crap. Over 10k Dollars! I couldn't even imagine why anyone would want one. For one, 10 grand is nothing to sneeze at. It will require a car payment and full coverage insurance. Full coverage insurance will not be cheap and it's required if you don't have 10grand in cash sitting around and you have to finance it. It can't haul very much. Even a once a month food shopping for 2 is beyond the capability of this machine. You can't drive it on the interstate or any limited access road (roads you have to get on an on-ramp to get on and off ramp to get off. Poor range. 1 passenger at best which will lower your range and top speed. Cut the price to under 3grand and leave all other specs in tact and you might have something that will sell in volume.
Man I love the look of the twizzy, we can't get them in the states. But I wish we could just buy a bare chassis and then add a motorbike motor to it and call it a kit car. Imagine a twizzy with a Hayabusa motor in it 🥴🤣
I got to drive 1 a few years back and absolutely loved it. Little go karts that just don't feel anything like a car. Bet it's class with the power box but come on sonnnnnn, get some proper batteries and decent motors in her already
WOW thnxs amazing car!! and good filming too. Power box yes good to have this car faster. and better battery its good tip too have charge logner. no leak form doors hopefully. and roof. maybe better than Smart Roadster the doors no water leaks. okey from 5:23 door window open can be a problem if raining outside but maybe more summer car but seal the windows propely or mood should be good more too go.
I wanted to hate it but for short journeys it's actually pretty bad ass. I wish they'd made it like a Citroen c1, Aygo though but a 1 seat version. It's like a pug dog, brilliant temperament and fun but looks funny. I watched your vid about massive solar panel about 3 years ago where you charged it off solar which is a neat trick. Cool vid! Great channel you do a lot of interesting stuff😄❤️😎👍
Brilliant👍‼️😂 Im looking at a used "80kph" model soon 😂 I can see if Ifitted a couple Li-ion batteries with a 7/8 kW inverter it could extend range, also a mini Webasto diesel cabin-heater for winter, which if heat was channelled towards the battery box (CAREfully‼️) Via a thermostat it would allow extra range too 🤔🤔
Hi Andy, where can I get the rubber straps and metal button clips for my windows? I've got the windows but they came with the velcro fastener version - can I upgrade just the straps or am I stuck with them?
Hi Andy have been watching your twizy videos for a long time now and I am on my second one but I still find it really noisy is there anything that can be done to cut out the whining noise from the motor thought about putting some dyamat have you any ideas.
Hi Andy Love the videos and a couple of questions Insurance costs Long term battery life Can’t find any where I live near Colchester to drive, and advise…? Many thanks Paul
i would absoloutly love one of these bad boys. It would be perfect. Im disabled and work a few miles down the road. It would be awsome for that. Vheers for the info buddy. Much apreshiated.
How the hell did you get 60 odd out of the Twizy?!? I've got the same, powerbox etc but with 15" Team Dynamic alloys, Nankang AR1s but only get up to low 50s... Good to see Twizy content again man
Really enjoyed the video!.. looks fun. thanks for sharing. If you can get your hands on a Moma electric bike i would love for you to figure out how the power can be tweaked.. its the biggest selling e-mtb bike on Amazon spain. No one seems to know how to sort it out.. so.. if anyone can.. you can?! Thanks for sharing all your vids.. i'm a fan. Cheers from sunny spain.
Very cool Andy, I always love the Twizzy videos! Also might you know anything about range extending batteries for the TWIZZY and possibly the AMI? I have a friend in France who's been vlogging about his AMI and I was thinking about putting together a 48V LFP battery but could not find much data on the Twizzy or AMI on the battery management and controller system, and guessed if anyone you might have some insights? Thanks.
someone is telling your subscribers they are getting free drones from you! I'm doubting it's you! on your last Dji drone vid. looking forward to the vid!
I would say without the mudguards your springs and steering components are gonna rust faster as they are exposed to the elements but the rest of the mods you have done are awesome though im still not sold on EVs yet as to get a really good one like a Nissan Leaf you have to pay £24 grand , for that price i can buy a used Evo 8 or some other nice fast car , I know the costs will be a lot more but fun is important to me.
@@andykirby 👍 yeah French not known for quality engineering lol 😄 I'm still driving round in an old Mitsubishi Colt from the 00s but the reason I was looking at a small EV is the petrol price £10 a day I'm paying to go to work and back absolutely crazy for a 1.1 litre Colt as years back I used to pay half that and wages sadly not keeping up with inflation but I will have to grin and bear it as EVs are still not ready yet , did you see Lee the Mac Master? He got locked inside his Porsche Taycan and the crazy thing is even his friend couldnt get him out by trying the handle from outside ,he did get out in the end as his friend found the spare key but so silly there's no manual override in the car.
Re. the PowerBox, have you considered that the unmodified top speed of the Twizzy might be proportionate to it's crash damage rating? If you modify it to drive at 60mph and have a collision the crumple zones may not be enough to protect you.
Am using the back seat with my kids, they loooove it. A small cushion makes them a bit more confortable thought. But we get to go to dentist appointments, etc... and park sooo easily.
@@andykirby No Renault stopped building the Twizy end of 2021. Aparently the new 'Duo' (replacement) is out this year and I have no idea what it looks like
I just got mine delivered to Barbados, a Renault Samsung Twizy, a 2020 48km on the clock, never driven on the road, all up purchase, warranty, shipping, insurance, import agent fees, excise duties, levies, etc under $5,000 US - has doors and windows, white - very cute. Speed limit here is 80km/hrs it's a small place so range is not an issue either. There are loads of cheap low mileage ones in South Korea 🇰🇷 shipping is reasonable, you'll need a good import agent who knows how to say it's not a car it's a quadracycle to reduce excise and duties.
We should make more noise I emailed VicRoads an year or so ago No plans to change quadricycle laws LNPathetic We may get Albo interested But I don't have high hopes Found a grouse e-scooter EmoS WYLD Thang Brisbane But an upgrade Twizy would be excellent Better battery chemistries in 2022 Are they still being made?
I can see why you stopped promoting leccy cars so much, ebikes etc great but they have a way to go yet at least you can get off a bike quickly if it sets on fire lol.
I need something just to carry me around to work and the gym and nothing else. But this silly thing has no real doors or isolation. Easy to get vandalized, broken into, stolen, messed with and unable to storm the weather. This thing needs R E A L doors. Look at all of the water coming in from the windows and how wet these doors look. Unacceptable and pretty worthless, especially in the UK.
@@andykirby What I care the most, is the fact that I wont be able to leave stuff overnight. I am interested in finding the smallest thing I can find and I own a Smart Car. I dont even leave in a shitty area and I know for a fact that if I make the mistake of living it unlocked for a second and walk away, I ll return and people will have broken into it and vandalised it.
