A couple of tips when on a TGV: 1- if the TGV has WiFi (like this one), you can connect to the WiFi to pre-order from the bar and select a pick up time, then you have a priority line to pick up your order 2- on a TGV Duplex (2 decks), the bathroom downstairs are much larger, especially the one that are design for wheelchair users (everybody can use them) 3- on a Duplex you have a better view from the top deck, but if you easily get sick, the bottom deck is extremely stable (being basically at axle eight) 3- at 6:25 the blue TGV behind you is a low cost OuiGo, that could be an alternative at a lower price, but no services on board (the legroom is good though) ;-)
1:56 so on this ticket, voiture means car, haut means upstairs (downstairs would probably be bas), and place assise means seat. I'm sure a clerk at the ticket counter would explain this if you don't read French, but it never hurts to know in advance!
As a regular traveller on TGV's I have to say that they are the best mode of transport when travelling in France. It's fast, reliable, comfortable and not too expensive if you book in advance. It's the perfect way to enjoy the scenic landscapes of France while travelling at up to 300km/h!
More of these train ride vids please. I've only been on a train once in my life about 20 years ago. When I go to Europe, even though it might be more expensive in some ways, I fully intend on using the trains as much as possible, and I would prefer to know how to use them before I get there. Oh and your sons are so adorable 😊

Excellent, your tips take the worry out of different forms of travel - you make it look easy! I know we just gotta get out there and try new things, but seeing this takes away any initial fears. Keep up the informative video’s on family travel😘
Great job folks.I love taking the trains in Europe. Pretty soon Liam is going to have his own You Tube channel titled "Liam's World'. Great job Liam. PS- Thanks for turning the cam off while you were in the WC lol :).
Just took that train a week ago. Very nice clean train. 2nd class was plenty fine. St.Jean station is very nice. Spent a week near Brantôme and Sarlat area. Vézac especially the garden over looking river valley and La Roque were breathtaking. Safe travels and thanks for your videos, they were helpful for my research beforehand.
I have been on those trains, my husband was attempting to take pictures of the corn fields, not on these trips!! Gotta love quick traveling. Thank you 😊
I am loving your travel day style videos. It gives us a real insight and gives us realistic tips to use. For example on our last night in Copenhagen we packed in late afternoon so we could leave super last minute. plus having Jocelyn do more videos is amazing. Keep it up. Xxx
Tips from someone often traveling by train in France : when you're selecting 1st class on www.oui.sncf/, you can choose your seats without additionnal fee (and there's more space for luggages) If you book in advance (ticket availlable 3 months before to the travel date) , there is nearly no difference between 1st and 2nd class cost
Brian Pan When you buy from the bar they can bring your order to your seat. Also 1st class compartment is immediately the next one to the bar’s, with spacious luggage room.
For people visiting France If you want to pay tickets first inter to ouigo tickets is very ships but not always available Scnf expensive but easy to pay Sorry my English is very bad ☺😂
Hello, a trick from a frequent TGV traveller (for work :-( ). If you need more room at the toilets, go to the bottom floor. The toilets there are almost weel-chair accessible. Nice vid. by the way. Best.
You forgot to mention that the platform number doesn’t get announced until a very short time before the train leaves, so be prepared for the last minute rush and not all French people are polite....been on that line a good few times now and a much nicer way to get from Paris to Bordeaux without the hassles of flying👏👏
Hello This was an interesting video. Going from Paris, to Marseilles I took the regular train and the TGV passed the train, I was on. Whew, it was traveling fast. Ok All the best Shaun of NYC
TGV (OuiTGV) are way more expensive than OuiGo (low cost TGV). OuiGo go the same pace as TGV but are less flexible. But you can save a lot of money. For instance a Paris-Bordeaux Ouigo costs 20 euros to 70 euros.
For your standing/stationary shots, like your intro, you really need to use manual exposure (or at least exposure lock) and manual focus to stop the image from shifting
I used to rent a car to drive between French cities but because I have come to hate Frances toll road system we have started going by train and renting a car at our destination. So much nicer. i do everything I can to avoid those damn toll roads.
Hi Wolters, we're to France next year, taking the train from city to city. May I ask you how does the Train work on SUNDAY as far Arrive or Depart. Are they more limited? Less Trains?
Hello Wolter, This question is completely unrelated to this video, however, felt that commenting on your most recent video would be the best way to contact you (Loved this video as well). My friend and I are going away for three nights in the middle of December. We have narrowed our options down (through watching your videos) to either Krakow or Prague (We haven't been to either). Both 25 years old and enjoy exploring during the day - looking at sights and taking in the culture and then going to a few pubs and bars in the evening and socialising with the locals and other travellers. Could you please give us your opinion on where you think we should book as we really can't decide. Thank you very much. Love your Videos! :)
Sometimes for few 5/10€ you can upgraded in 1st class. It's spacer and quieter so it's ideal when you work or even for a families with babies (don't care about angry peolple) ;)
That was 2nd class? Boy will you be disappointed if you travel on our long distance trains here in Sydney Australia. No power to plug into and no pull down blinds to block the sun. Very small bathrooms. I am referring to 1st class seats. I would like a honest review from you so please try our trains sometime in the future.
As an American Mom, I would probably be traveling with large, wheeled suitcases. It does not appear to be any space to store them. What would I do in that situation? Would I have to fly instead?
@@ProfessorWolters Thank you for this video. Is there a predictable, set amount of time, before departure, that you can board the train. I would be quite willing to arrive early in order to secure a space for my large suitcase.
Train sandwiches are a kind of joke in France. Overpriced, super small and taste terrible so my tip is : if you come to France and have to take the train : bring your own food and beverage.
sadly, they are on their longest strike yet currently, they want to keep their 45-52 years old retirement plan, payed at full priced of the last year of salary and adjusted to inflation...
@@Nynke_K yeah, after thinking about it, 111 for a whole family would be really cheap. but I took the same route few years back and it was not that expansive.
111€ for everybody. And you can have a much cheaper deal, I just look it up and have found 70€ for 4 (2 adults at 27€ each & 2 kids at 8€ each) in May on the SNCF website. Trains are cheap! That's why subways are common for public transportation ;)
No, and it takes much longer. Prices are similar but you need to add on the cost of getting to CdG from Paris and to Bordeaux from Merignac. With the train taking only 2 hours from centre to centre it is quicker and cheaper. Rail services are more frequent as airlines cannot really compete (there are no longer any flights from Paris to Brussels as airlines cannot compete with high speed rail on price, journey time or convenience)
