Thank you for posting this. I just learned about this train today, when I was researching travel options on how to get to Palenque. I've wanted to visit Palenque for years now, but I've not moved it up my priority list because it seems like it has been very difficult to reach for those of us in the US. This train seems like an answered prayer. And I've heard great things about Merida and Valladolid, too, so I guess those cities also should be included in a Southern Mexico trip. (No interest in the Caribbean beach towns ... no interest in beach towns anywhere ... just not my thing. Your video makes it seem like Cancun is the only place on the train route to be avoided. I'm OK with that.) Palenque has just zoomed up my list of places I want (and can) to visit. Way up!
Mexican here. Don't take taxis in Mexico people, specially in tourist areas, they are pretty corrupt. Stick to shuttles and buses, they are everywhere, also they are nice and affordable. If you must take a taxi stick to the ones that have "bases", not the street taxis.
Thanks - I always use the "taxi autorizado" at the airport or bus station when I arrive at a certain location. So far, so good... Not too many problems.
The free big green bus goes to all terminals (meaning 2, 3 and 4) so look for the Tren Maya signs outside each terminal. The bus then goes straight to the Tren Maya station. It doesn't run all day but rather runs when there's a train coming or going. The schedule will be on the sign boards outside the Airport Terminal. There is also an ADO bus from Cancun main bus station that goes to the Tren Maya station (but does not go to the airport) that costs about 130 pesos. There is no First Class lounge for Clase Premier passengers at the Cancun Tren Maya station or in fact any lounge, it's an odd station with a giant roof and platforms under it. Don't think of Clase Premier as a luxury experience, it's a nicer experience, I recommend it but it's not luxury.
is that shameful that Mexico built 1000 miles long train in 4 years and the US has not been able to do the same? In Texas the Bullet Train project has been halted for the past 20 years, and in California maybe they will finish in 2050
@@TheGrroovyGuru I hope not, that would be devastating for the environment. I like Mexico as it is: a middle income country. The cost of living is still affordable, and except for the narco issue, the rest is fine.
@@SusanaSanjuan-z5n That's your desire. But mexicans aspire prosperity to our country. We deserve it and our government knows that and is doing their best.
@@SusanaSanjuan-z5nWith all due respect, It’s not your country. So please stop giving your opinion about what you want or not. Worry about your own country and fight for it!
Thank you for this informative video, well done! I wish somehow some way all the scamming and taxi hackling could be stopped from happening at the Cancun Airport. That place is an Obsolute nightmare. Ive been to Cancun twice, n vowed never to return to that area because of that airport. This affects tourism negatively for Mexico n it really needs to stop. This Tren Maya shuttle from the airport( not sure where it takes you), could alleviate some of the stress, so something to consider if I choose to return. Thank you for mentioning that shuttle.
Yes, good point and the gov has so many projects happening to connect the stations with airports and the center. Hope Cancun is one of those. I'm sorry that happened to you 😢
Hi! Yes, you can, but sometimes the trains are already sold out, so you might not be able to get tickets at the last minute. It's best to get them in advance.
Excellent information. I am Latino and the scammers in Mexico are bad. Keep an eye on them. However, never, ever, give credit card to those idiots. Pesos are king when traveling in Mexico. Always use Pesos. Never dollars. If you change money, do it in the USA. Call your bank and let them know how much money you need in pesos. You get a good rate with no scams.
I wrote a question and didn't it didn't appear. Is it because you monitor the comments? My question is about the difference between the different categories of Mexicans because I am one and I don't know which one to choose there is no explanation.
Ppl complaint about evrething. ..because the rain is empty because to many ppl...because only you tubers travel in that train...bla bla bla..enjoying the dawn travel if you gonna use this train and stop complaint about nothing
96% of the 250,000 people that have ridden it have been Mexican. It's not common to see foreigners on it at this time although that may change in the future.
Choose seats facing forward. The website shows you the direction of travel allowing you to get the right seat. Book as early as you can for more choice.
@@GrantMcWilliams the train never turns around. The is a driver seat on both ends of the train. So either eastward or westward will always be riding backwards.
@@JuanSanchez-ik7wx Of course, as I said - "The website shows you the direction of travel allowing you to get the right seat. Book as early as you can for more choice."
@@JuanSanchez-ik7wx It's very, very simple. When you buy your ticket, the website tells you which direction the seat is facing. If you want to face forward, buy a forward facing ticket. Have you ever been on a train before?
@@JuanSanchez-ik7wx I don't know of anyone with chickens and goats in Mexico. I do know people in the US with chickens and goats though. I don't think they'd be able to bring them on the plane so it's not an issue.
EL TREN MAYA, ES LO MEJOR, ASI QUE SI TE PASO ALGO , BUENO! PERO TENGO MEJORES EXPERIENCIAS, QUE TU, POR QUE NO TE INFORMAS, QUIEN LO PRVOCO FUERON LOS PARTIDOS OPOSITORES DE #AMLO ? BUSCA EN LAS REDES. Y NO HABLES SIN ESTAR INFORMADO.
AMLO is almost done. Is Mexico corrupt - yes; is Mexico lawless - yes; is Mexico poor - yes; is AMLO El Chapo’s employee - yes; does Mexico have functioning law enforcement or legal systems - no! AMLO has done nothing for Mexico - his Mayan train is a waste of money and he flushed millions in USD down the toilet with the CDMX airport fiasco. Educate yourself!
@@samsongomah1318Educate you before posting a lies, AMLO has made more good things than other last 6 presidents that open the door to corruption, crime , guns etc. 😮
@@ivansanchez8458 my brother took it. i used his phone to measure the speed. that was also going about 20mph when it derliaed this past week. what is your experience?
What a terrible experience for a new train compared to the Brightline train that opened in Florida last year. Everyone knows this train was nowhere ready to open. So why was it opened? Because AMLO wanted the grand opening to occur while he was still in office even if it wasn't ready. Shameful. The locations of the stations are ridiculous, too. No infrastructure to connect them to the nearby cities. Another badly implemented public project like the new airport at Santa Lucia where no foreign airline wants to use it because it's also in a bad location. That project was also rushed instead of doing it correctly.
Anti AMLO detected. This project will be finished by August and Restaurant train plus Dormitory train will join too. Absolutely amazing project that develops the south of Mexico. 🇲🇽
Brightline in Florida? Of course it can't compare to El Tren Maya. It is tantamount to remarking that Texan Oil Refineries are way superb than Dos Bocas. Why? Because they ( Brightline and/ or Dos Bocas) are not constantly being sabotaged or incessantly attacked ( literally) by the Mexican government. If we Mexicans did this, rest assured USA 👹 would have declared war on us. Again, this shows us that USA will always keep us beaneath them so that we could never ascend to the pinnacle of superiority. We will always be inferior Mexicans.
¿Huele a ardido que lo obligaron a pagar impuestos o que se quedó sin hueso y por eso está despotricando?👀 Good for you stay in Florida, en México ya somos muchos y entre menos burros más olotes.🙂
@@Karlaitzell94Too bad the Mayan train won’t cure corruption in Mexico. Too bad the Mayan train won’t give Mexico a functioning legal or law enforcement system. Too bad the Mayan train won’t help the millions of Mexicans living under narco control. Too bad AMLO is a failure.
The author of this content is an AMLO shill. S de Campeche to Cancun. Two trains day. Inconvenient stations. The ticket website is still awkward after a year. ADO bus may be an hour or two longer, but cheaper and more frequent.
Riding in the back of a dump truck may be cheaper and more frequent too but that doesn't mean you will like it. The Tren Maya takes 5 hrs 47 minutes to get from Campeche to Cancun and costs 776 pesos for local turista class. There are no nice ADO buses between those cities so the ADO GL is the best that you can get and it takes 6 hrs and 35 minutes and costs 913 pesos. It takes another hour, is more cramped, the ride is bad, you can't get up and move for almost 7 hour and it costs more and there's only 2 ADO GLs per day just like the train. If you are really desperate you can take a basic ADO bus or god forbid an OCC bus and pay anywhere from 522 pesos to over 1000 and be crammed on like sardines. Yes, there are more buses per day than trains so enjoy being crammed into a bus for almost 7 hours without a break. At least that way you don't have to admit that the train has been a roaring success. Eventually the only buses left will be second class busses at which point you will quietly be taking the train pretending like you were never against it.
@@GrantMcWilliams Tell you what. Today, 3 Aug 2024, Tren Maya (TM) ridership will never be able to sustain the current operating cost. Certainly, your descriptions of ADO are somewhat accurate. My basic criticism is the TM funds could have been better spent on basic infrastructure for MX. TM stations are inconvenient. Some locals, the taxi drivers don't know the location of the stations. The overwhelmingly foreign tourist come to the Riviera Maya for sand and sun...not to trek through jungle and dust to view dusty relics. The local populace...that's like asking a New Yorker when they last visited 🗽 Sorry, TM is going to become a local commuter line. As long as ATS/SUR/ combis operate MX will take the less expensive alternative. The hotels/tour operators in Cancun/ Playa del Carmen/Tulum will arrange more convenient tours. AMLO envisioning freight traffic for TM...from where to where? How much to create the infra structure. But, come December 2024, a big financial surprise worldwide. Those entities dependent on foreign tourist dollars are in for a rude awakening. Unfortunately, the TM is a train to no where.
@@firstlast1047 96% of the 268,000 people that have taken the train have been Mexican. Only 4% have been foreigners. As for your opinion on what the funds should have been used for it doesn't matter. This is Mexico, this train is paid for by Mexicans and it's an improvement to their country. It's their own infrastructure so you don't get to decide what they should be using their money on. By the way, just out of curiosity, how many times have you taken the Tren Maya?
@@GrantMcWilliams Haven't taken it. The schedule is inconvenient for me to catch flights in Cancun. Only two trains a day from Campeche. It would entail a hotel. Plus my class of ticket...I have to go to train station. What's the improvement?? A train for foreign gringo's? AMLO is so desperate to have this project finished before his term ends. I noticed an uptick of engineering delays, construction accidents. Payroll missed. Oh and the peso is taking a big hit. Oh, it's MX money. I got a vested interest. Seventeen years a Campechano medio. LOL
@@firstlast1047 Why would you need to go to the station to buy your train ticket? It's becoming obvious that you don't know anything about the train and haven't even attempted to learn. The passengers so far have been 96% Mexican, as in real Mexican, not gringo for 17 years.
So not true! Sorry to disappoint you, but I met scores of travelers on the Tren Maya, and most of them were Mexican nationals who were extremely excited to be on the train. (I didn't meet a single RU-vidr, by the way.) Yes, it is incomplete (as they themselves disclose) but, as I mention in the video, only one of the more than a dozen trips I booked had issues. All of the others departed on time and without problem.
@@EliteDesk-z1d Nobody says it is complete. The Tren Maya itself says this on the website. The Cancun-Palenque route is open and functioning, albeit not without problems. This is coming from someone who actually traveled the entire route, two times. Cancun to Palenque and back, twice. With various stops and layovers that included Valladolid, Izamal, Chichen Itza, Merida, and Campeche. Believe what you will.
@@thebluegrasspeasant2427 that dude probably has never traveled on it and probably will never. That kind of people are never pleased with anything, you cannot convince them even with facts.
