@@lenduckworth99 I had a 02 Gibson gothic explorer set up like it's was for James Hetfield. Best guitar I ever had, but sold it. Then had a 07 Ltd eclipse 1000. Didn't like it for whatever reason. Hope this LPJ sounds good when I get them in.
I have an SGJ, same color. I like them, because they are different. But back in the day, I took the chrome covers off my ‘81 V, and put pickup surrounds on it. Nice guitar btw!
nice! i've been thinking about an sgj for a while haha. i may well get one at some point... i'm kinda jonesing for a jaguar or a 335 as well though! thanks for watching :)
yeah it was nearly new or b stock or ex demo (i suspect as it was flawless) back in late 2012. i was and still am chuffed with it :D nearly 10 years on and i'd still make money on it if i ever sold it haha
you're very welcome! yeah i wanted the covers off for years but was scared of breaking my guitar! i saws a forum post with pics on how to do it, and took the plunge. my les paul looks so much better now!
I've been thinking about doing this for years but didn’t want to mess it up. Definitely going to do this to mine now. Thanks for the video! For the base plates did you get the 49.2mm, 50mm or 53mm? 'Short leg' of not?
thanks for watching! I honestly can't remember, which is why i try to say specifically what i'm using, in each video. I think they were the 50mm. there's an old forum post on doing this and i used the ones that guy did. but there was no video on it, so i had to film when i did it! thanks for watching :)
Hey Al super job mate! i own a chocolate sgj 2013 and this is exactly what I've wanted to do to it but I've never got past taking the pups out, looking at them for a bit, then resignedly putting them back. Don't suppose you could pop round and sort it for me? I live near Canberra in Australia. 😋
if your changing the pickups to a 59 paf or hot pickups I get it but if your saying the original pickups suck which people are .. I like them the only thing I don't like is you cant move the pickups up or down
Hi! thanks :) i tend to shop at northwest guitars, blackdogmusic or allparts. I went for the nickel baseplates because brass arguably muffles the sound (many players took the brass covers off those later 'bursts e.g. jimmy page)
@@BadMotivator66 great Band . Seen them many times myself. Im planning to buy Gibson LPJ very soon and think I might take off the plastic covers myself. Thanks for showing me how to do right 👍
I think that the way it was held in was bad, and mayve the pickup could slip in the cover. and i'm not sure how close to the top of the cover when it was in there. But with the tabs now a bit lower, i can raise or lower the pickups easier and a bit more up or down... thanks for watching :)
Hello, thanks for sharing this video. I´m going to do exactly the same to my LPJ... With the difference that I´m going to put chrome covers to the pickups. What did you use to blur the edge of the baseplate so it doesn´t affect the wire? Salutes
@@BadMotivator66 thanks for your answer! so, is it completely necessary to wax pot the pick up? Didn´t know that I had to do it... Not sure how it is done, I will check some videos. Salutes
Thanks for this. I have the same guitar in white and I have been meaning to do this for a while now. I can't understand why Gibson would put those ugly plastic covers on this guitar. It looks so much better without the covers.
Its called the Quick Connect system, and or solderless. Great PCB functions just like a hard wired circuit. People in general don't like them. I use them a lot as they are versatile ,and easy to switch pick ups on a dime
@@englfalafel955 i would guess the same or pretty much the same. these pickups are all slug poles not screw and slug, i'm sure that makes some difference. i couldn't say how
michrophonic ??!!!! it should come out of the amp or shoudnt ???!!! Sorry for this "childish" question ... but i'm planning doing the same thing you did in my LP Tribute! Thanks Greetings from Portugal Stay safe & Keep Rockin
hi no these covers are plastic and so the pickups are potted before the covers are added. the covers don't make the pickups microphonic and they can be taken off without any problems :) i've not had an LP Tribute (they look lovely though_ so i can't say about those pickups
