We just found you guys and we’ve been binging your videos ever since. We’re a couple of retired Canadian Gen X’ers who are planning an extended trip to Ireland in the near future. If you had to do it all over again, would you still pick Kinsale as your home base or did you find another place in your travels that you wished you had stayed in? Keep the videos coming and Melissa keep planning those great itineraries; I plan to steal some of them. 😊
Hi! Retired Gen-Xers sounds funny... are we now at the retirement age? :D Or did you guys do things right so you could retire early? :D We may probably still pick Kinsale if we were to move to Ireland. It was a very nice place to be and we intend to visit again.
@@chrisplusmelissa not sure about doing everything right because it certainly didn’t feel that way as we were stumbling through it. 😂 We’re a military family and we’ve sacrificed a lot for over 25 years. We are now trying to reap the rewards of that service; one of which is early retirement. 😊 Your videos have helped us a lot in narrowing down possible long travel locations in Ireland. We’re deciding between Galway and Kinsale as our ‘base of operations’. I love that you guys do long travel as well and are roughly our age (at least I think we’re around the same age). My favourite band is Guns and Roses as well sooooooo…
I was raised on sailboats. My dad sailed from Vancouver on his 51' sloop (The Last Dance) thru the Panama canal and ended up living in Kinsale, Cork for 3 years. He was a member of Royal Cork Yacht club and did some sailing out of there.
Oh my! That is wild. Did you ever visit him in Kinsale? We are thinking we want to learn more and more about sailing. (we've already done a little sailing adventure that's coming in the future! :D)
@@chrisplusmelissa No never did visit him in Kinsale. I've done an awful lot of sailing and racing. Victoria-Maui and cruised the Hawaiian islands etc. Lots of very stormy windy days not for the novice. Surfing in the Molokai channel was one to remember. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4wdOmVZB54c.html
Great video guys, enjoyed it immensely!Cromwell was a bowsie of the highest calibre,he is especially despised here in Drogheda, hope you are enjoying your time here in Ireland.

unfortunately , when I was Ireland in Dec 1999 (Jan 2000) for three weeks, was able to go to Waterford and visit/tour Waterford Crystal where they make fabulous crystal items and is where the NYC Times Square NYE ball. I visited Dublin, Wicklow Mountains (road trip near Dublin by car to a still mountain lake) , Waterford, Killarney Galway, Limerick ~ bought a 14 day bus pas allowing for stop/stay places along the way if I recall was
Thats true about the battle of kinsale, but there is a bit more it was really the end of the native aristocracy and native gaelic culture ,a few native lords held on ,but they had to become protestant in order to retain there landsand title as catholics were forbidden from having aristocratic titles by the English. Also if the irish and spanish had won ,canada and USA would probably be spanish speaking countries.
