Guys if youre Experiencing "White Noise" Just turn down your In Camera Mic settings to "All the way down" and turn the Mic settings to all the way up , That way you will get a Clearer , louder Sound.
Put your camera in Movie Mode, click 'Menu', go to the 5th icon. Select 'Sound Recording', click the 'Set' button and choose 'Manual', then adjust. I do this all the time when recording bands. Mine is a 650D but should be the same or very close.
Thank you SO much for this video! Oh it was perfect. You showed all the details of the mic nice and simply and did great tests with different environments and it was all clear to understand. Fantastic video-- thank you!!
Nice testing, although I would have been interested to hear the tests with and without the low-cut filter, to hear if it helps with that noise. Thanks for the video.
Great review. I did a comparison video on the Rode videomic go and The Takstar-598 and I would have to say for the price the Takstar wins but Im really liking how light the rode body is compared to the Takstar.
Thanks for the great video. The 3rd button - low cut filter - wondering if you had that on or not. It would take out a lot of that low rumble we hear in your lake shots and on the highway (if it works that is).
Viewer request: Could you start giving out of 5 stars? So like in every video you make from now on could you give it a rating out of 5? So we have a better precipitation of how good the product is thx.
thank you for the sound tests. i didnt notice any real difference. so muck background noise. i dunno.maybe it was camera mic settings but i wouldnt buy this.

My microphone didn't even come with a box. I think it was used, but I bought it from Amazon,so idk. The static is very loud though to the point that it is unusable even after post editing. Anyone experience this, and know of a way to fix it?
I actually bought mine less than a week ago through amazon, and I think we must've gotten it from the same sseller. The piece of shit is broken and staticy as fuck, just return it, it seems to be a defect some others have the same issue, and I'm going to buy one off ebay hopefully it works well. It's awful and quite frustrating, the sound is just like HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
The built-in microphone is good for capturing a wide area of sound. The shotgun mic that was reviewed is good for when you only want a specific area of sound to be captured. Imo, the T3i's microphone is actually pretty good for a built-in one.
the bad quality of the mic comes from the bad preamp built into the camera so you have to put the mic on highest db-level and the camera on the lowest to reduce background noise almost completley! (I'm sorry for bad Grammar but i'm from Germany)
Fresko Lesko Take the audio and put it into Audacity (free audio editing program) select a portion of the audio that is just pure noise with no talking or background noise. Then click effects, noise reduction, get noise profile. The go back to noise reduction and click okay and it should remove all noise from your video. For that you got to kinda play around.
it looks better (especially the box) than it sounds. i wont be buying. thanks for the review. very enlightening.

Great video, but i'm still not sure about it, it's very noise, i actually prefer the built in microphone, i got a t5i to film my videos, the sound is good, but i want something better. Maybe i should go for the rode one :( thank you!
I boght and i don´t like... i think this mic make a lot of noise... I was so so so so so sad because here in brazil all things are so expresive, i paid 4 more for this item and i don´t like
Hi there, nice video. I didn't see in your video the comparison by using the "Low cut" switch. If you have used it sometime have you noticed any difference. I got one Takstar 598 and when switching the low cut I don't notice any difference. I wonder if mine is damaged or if it is really hard do notice the difference and isn't like switching the +10DB where you get easily to notice the difference. Thanks.
+Martial 3231 True, I have the Takstar SGC-598 as well and it's making a hiss sound indeed. But for the price....it's better than most other microphones in the same pricerange.
I just bought the Takstar SGC-598 and I want to use it for some unboxing videos, but I want to place it right next to the box not on the camera. Is there any small tripod that I can mount this microphone on ? Or....is there any adapter hot shoe to screw it to/connect it to the regular tripod ? Thank you.
Wow you sure use the word "particular" frequently in this review. haha Still put on a great review! In fact, this is the only legitimately useful mic review I've seen. You actually tested practical and common uses! Thank you.
I just got the takstar microphone, I use a canon 1300D and the wire of the microphone, the port is too small for the mouth of the wire of the microphone.. what can I do?
To much background noise, not use in too loud background situations like this on a highway, that's mean this mike is a waste of money for any journalist or even youtubers. So, for who this mike is? For nobody.
On 3.28 you hear more clearly the water but the sound of the wind make it looks like the Titanic or a Spaceship would appear every moment...hehe.. Conclusion : The Takstar SGC-598 is more powerful but you must know when to use it, in nature with no wind but with singing birds it would certain do. :-)
It's a good microphone as long as you know how to use it. First: go to your camera settings and reduce it by 7Db to eliminate background noise. Then plug the + 10Db into Tackstar and enjoy. Finally, try to bring the microphone closer to the subject with a boom - a distance of 30 or 40 cm. Do not use the microphone on top of the camera.
Unfortunately, that sound with the mic is awful. Not sure what it is, but you can hear static noise in the first test @ 2:32. The outdoor test made the difference for me! Buying the mic today, as the built in version sounded bad and unclear as opposed to the mic. I think the mic does wonders when it's outside. Indoors, it sounds awful!
No see the thing is this guy did a bad example he is supposed to turn on the wind filter attenuator built inside the camera and put it on manual mode to kill all that nasty sound trust I did it with both my cameras t6i and 77d
I just bought and unboxed this as well, check my channel if interested in the video. Anyways mine came with the hot-shoe mount installed in the wrong direction I had to buy a special sized Philips screw driver just to get it in the right direction. Quality control for this product seems to be horrible.
thank you, I assume you were pretty close to the mic. Im trying to do some kitchen videos but the sound echos a lot. Im guessing a lapel mic might work best for this situation
i'm having an issue with my Takstar SGC-598 on my D5200, it seems that it keeps catching the autofocus engin sound of both my 50mm f1.5 and my kit 18-55mm .... any tips over this issue please?
I got this, open box, for $15. I'm very pleased with it's value and it sounds great up close 12 to 18". But at 3' mounted on top of the camera, it sounds unimpressive and picks up much of the room noise. So if you want this to sound good, 12 to 18" from your sound source and you're golden. Oh, and the low cut filter makes a big difference on your voice. I bet it cuts at 240hz or somewhere around there. It's almost a "must have" at the low price it sells for.
So at 1:48 I see that your square piece is apart from your rounded circle on the bottom of the microphone. The mic I have is attached to that round piece so it can't fit in anywhere, is there a way to separate these pieces and make it work again? We cannot attach it to anything if we don't have this worked out.
I don't know if I have a faulty product, or I just don't know what i'm doing, but white noise of my Takstar is unbearably loud and you can barely hear any real audio underneath it. At first I thought it was because my G7 had a bad preamp but then I tried it plugged into my zoom h1 and I have the same problem. Anyone else have this issue/any suggestions?
Lucas Bulger I also have the g7 ! just make sure to keep the mic on straight line (stereo) and 0 decibels is better ! I made a video you can watch about the takstar and the g7 how to fix it today :) check it out and ask me questions there :)
I got this from wish for a great deal. And I love this mic great sound, much better than the nice wind pro version built into my panasonic HC-V770, which is a great camcorder btw.
Great review! Great comparison examples. I like the sound from the Takstar better (fuller/richer sound), but at the same time there is added hiss that I'm not too fond of. I know some comments talk about decreasing the camera audio record level, but I can't see how that would fix the problem. Have you found a way to deal with the hiss from the Takstar mic? Thanks for the review.
