Talbot hotel and Stourbridge - Exploring the black country

I explore the Talbot hotel in Stourbridge that dates back to 1628 and also a walk around Stourbridge. the hotel is one of the oldest buildings as it used to be a townhouse owned by the Foley family inside it has some stunning architectural features such as old beams , Jacobean style and much more .

The door to the tunnels under Stourbridge ring road to the college is still there. You can find it next to the River Stour by the KFC. There are also some quite good tunnels in the cellar of the Talbot Hotel.

Thanks for sharing this bud I found the tunnels by KFC seen the door to go in . I heard about the tunnels under the hotel they got filled in but the cellar part that it connects to remains

We held our Wedding Reception at the Talbot Hotel in 1972. A beautiful place.

Great place and staff as well they are very respectful and friendly so I give them a 10/10 for customer service

It was a cinema, I remember my first film I watched there was Dracula prince of darkness starring Christopher Lee in around 1967. I used to go drinking in the Talbot when I was a young man. Great vid brought back memories

I’m returning to The Black Country having lived in Canada for 13 years. Thanks for the videos you make and for giving me lots of ideas for places to explore that are not too far to travel . We are lucky that we can live in England, such an interesting and beautiful country 😊

Hi, Canada is becoming an increasing difficult country to live in and it doesn’t take care of less fortunate people like the UK does. Too much drug use here and homelessness, very high taxes too. I want to camp and explore the outdoors again without worrying about bears, I want to explore castles, walk along coastal paths, live amongst people who are friendly and have a sense of humour again😊 You don’t realize what a great country we have until you are not there.

@@jhickman4735 oh right that's a shame tbh I feel lucky to live where I do tho tbh as have easy access to many things like countryside , parks and much more tonnes of stuff around the black country tho shame most of the old industrys have gone but still more to see

I’ve stayed at the talbot hotel a few years ago, I also had 20p threw at me while I was waiting at the reception desk, turned around but there was no one behind me 👻 the hotel was also home to the Stourbridge Wheelers.

@@MidlandsOutdoors ooh it’s fantastically haunted but funny thing is I never experienced anything while staying there. There is a Freemason temple in the hotel but I don’t know if it’s used much

The bit behind the glass is lath & plaster. The laths are the wood and they would fill with lime plaster to make a smooth finish. The modern version is plasterboard. My house has lath and plastee in places. Nice hotel, much more posh than a Travelodge lol.

Hi bud mad to see that plaster behind the wall . I know right much better than a Travelodge 🤣🤣 I've seen a few Travelodge that have been turned from a hall into a hotel there's one in Stourbridge I seen before

It was a cinema up till 1982 called the ABC. Its previous name (the one you could barely see at the top) was the Scala. I watched several films there as a child & it was awesome, shame they closed it down.
