Yeah, either Chalk Outlines or How To Be Me (both are with another singer called Chinchilla) or, if you're interested in his old-skool hip-hop stuff, try The Hunger. Literally everything he does is almost annoyingly exceptional.
You have got a new subscriber....I am a 62 year old woman who fell into the Ren- Rabbithole in the summer of 2023....and since then loving his art...his music, his skills, his lyrics....his storytelling through his songs in particular...Greetings from GERMANY !
@@BlakeMakesMusicya gotta come back with More Ren... check out a couple of his latest tracks... Fred Again Mashup and Back on 74/Message in a Bottle!!! Trust me... you're honna enjoy them!
Yeah… but you get that their father is also their grandfather, and that the creep that kills her was not. Right? I got three arguments 1. It gives an even bigger reason why a 16 year old girl would stay with an abusive boyfriend, adds an extra layer of desperation. 2. It gives the creep a reason to think that Violet was a liar. Easier to believe she was a slut then the horror story she probably shared with him. 3. This is written as a modern Greek tragedy, and incest is a very Greek tragedy kind of thing and children of incest are ALWAYS cursed… REN hasn’t said, but I am pretty sure I’m right. What you all think?
I think your reactions on Ren are my favorites, I've watched many (almost like Ren reaction videos are a new genre). To help understand who Ren is, check out what he has to say when he got 1 million subscribers. Im 61 years old and absolutely hooked on this kid.
It's like they took Chaucer and dropped him off in modern day London with all the nuances of the english language in modern form to continue his Canterbury Tales; Ren is a genius with lyrical storytelling that one can really appreciate the rhyme schemes that occur.
Ren is a modern day bard. The storytelling is so vivid that it gets even physically uncomfortable at parts, but you can’t stop watching cause it’s so beautifully done. He demands your attention. Ren is a genius.
Hello there. I get it. You've been "Renned". Since I've listened to him, I have watch his videos over and over. I am a big burly biker looking guy. I like hard rock and metal normally. I do appreciate many others but that's my go to. But Ren has thrown a wrench in my play list. And like I said, I am watching him constantly. And I am a little addicted to watching new people react to him. Especially Hi Ren. It gets everyone. But everyone usually has to see what else he has. But also as I look for other Ren Reaction videos, I have found really cool channels with nice people like Chief here. He touches everyone. He's brilliant. Even before you learn about his story of troubles he has had and is having, he just seems like a real stand up guy. Ren just is so wise beyond his years. I hope he gets all his troubles squared away and is shower with riches his amazing gift he has brought to the world. And you Chief, I dig the channel. You seem like a good guy yourself. Thank you for sharing your experience and emotions with us as Ren turns us all into weeping saps. How dare him make us feel feelings. I'm joking of course. Thanks man!!
Jenny knew the streets and walked then 1000 times before because she was a "working girl". She must have turned to prostitution, and was already immersed by age 14 (she was wearing high heels). She was trying to escape that life. Whilst her twin became a violent thug as a result of growing up on the streets. Clearly separated at birth as they never knew about each other 😢 Such a painful story. Unfortunately it happens more often than we may think. Thank you for your awesome and honest reaction ❤
The sad thing is that Jenny’s Tale has been sitting on RU-vid for 4 years, waiting to be discovered by the masses. Hence the 2-0-0-5 referenced in Violet’s Tale + the 14 year age of Screech (and Jenny) gets you to the 2019 publishing date.
“Chalk Outlines” if you really want to hear Ren sing. “Genesis”, “The Hunger”, “Money Game pt 1 and 2” if you want to see him rap. Or if you want something lighter, “What You Want”, “Power” and “Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve Retake)” shows Ren’s fun side. If you want to see Ren in his band then The Big Push “I Shot The Sheriff/Road To Zion/Hip Hop” is a must, also their song “Dignity” is a personal favorite of mine.
The Money Game triolgy. Part 1 is really cool. Part 2 is a lyric video but such an iconic second verse. Part 3 is one of Rens greatest works to date. Part 3 is astonishing.
Why is nobody talking about the fact that these are actual live performances. Both this and Hi ren. Sure, they may cut between different takes, but what you see is what you hear. Ren is next level.
@@n_mckean that was the first thing I thought when I saw the video! With the exception of him being a better guitarist than i thought, and his brass voice sounds insane!
14:00 the Foley effect you hear, the metallic sound hitting the guitar body, is the zipper tag on his jacket as he raises it to aim the guitar at Screech. Hope it helps.
@@MyMomsCalciumCannonsit would rattle around in the shell and fuck up the rest of the take. Trying to get a guitar pick out of the heart is a pain in the ass on its own.
@AlexofZippo It looks like his guitar was quite stable for the rest of the take, also if that was an issue maybe he has a magnet inside? Idk I'm just hypothesizing
I've watched countless Ren reactions, yours are one of the best. Both the technical knowledge and your enjoyment in the story and the wonder on your face when faced with Ren's genius.
Ren said that when he did Jenny’s tail he knew that he has found his way of doing music. This is how he wants to do music. He calls this genre bardcore. His music has Ren-ovaded my music taste. I listen to his music day in and day out. Never been so hyped about any artist ever in my 56 years of existence.
I'm from Sweden and the tales remind me of the very old and long lived swedish ballad tradition, both medieval and the more contemporary variety that was picked up during 18th century and was inspired by the medieval ones. It survived into 20th century but is so rare to find these days. Pretty much dead. I love hearing a linear story narrated through singing so it makes me happy hearing Ren do that!
Many may not agree with me but here goes..I'm a woman in my sixties and in 1972 my cousin bought me one of my first albums ..it was the Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust....this began my lifetime love of everything Bowie, and I mean everything, many fair weather fans may have scoffed at Tin Machine but to me he was a genius, two years later my boyfriend and I went over to Holland to see him as Halloween Jack and my obsession grew. Over the years no-one surpassed this man in my eyes, his song writing, his kindness his truths. When he passed I was devastated..the end of an era, never to be seen again..over time I've admired others of course, Bauhaus, Tears for Fears, Siouxsie, Deacon Blue (yes my taste is eclectic!) not long ago I came across LP and she began to ignite a missing spark that was a breath of fresh air that, in my opinion, have a little hope for better things to come music side and might blow away all the radio dross that I could never tell where one track ended and another started. And then screaming through the airwaves comes REN!!! The excitement from first hearing him equalled my reaction to Bowie all those years ago. Two geniuses within my lifetime is astounding..how good would a collaboration have been? So all you youngsters out there support this man and be as thrilled as I was to be walking on the same planet as Bowie and feel the same privilege to share this world with Ren. 😍✌🇬🇧
Hi Blake, I was so impressed by your review: You are right this is a movie. You can't say this is the best since...; because it's never been done before. Live, brilliant theatre, singing, story telling, guitar playing. Ren is a GOAT! He's on another planet.
You missed mentioning about his exceptional timing eg, in Violets Tale when he stops playing and knocks on the door then goes back to playing the guitar all in time.
First time here.👍🏻”Anyway” NO s. Please.🙄 “Practice more or quit.”😊 “His songs are like movies.” ~ You didn’t realize it was live?🤭 “Hi Ren”, too. All or nearly all his posted work is live. & a pittance to produce. “This is a musical/creative genius.” Ok. You get it. I subscribed. “Such a good composer.”👏🏻😊 “…breaking the songwriting barrier.”👍🏻with unbridled talent, courage & humility. “I’ve never heard anything like this before.” 😂 Same. I’ve been immersed in the arts my entire life. This is groundbreaking. For me? This leaves “exciting” in the dust. You’re informative, knowledgeable, articulate & don’t use incessant, banal cursing. We now know what artistic genius looks, sounds, & feels like. Ren is the personification of creative genius. Musically gifted, innovative, bold, courageous. Performance artist of the highest caliber; a bard with a social conscience. Hi Ren is high art. This provides a glimpse into & raises awareness of the cyclical nature of violence. All Ren’s work is socially relevant & speaks to the universality of the human experience. You see it in cinematic terms. I see it as performance art. & theater. “Hi Re”, a one act play, this trilogy; a play. Combine Bach, Shakespeare, Van Gogh, Pacino & Carlin. You’ll get someone closer to Ren. Ty, again.👍🏻 Be well. 4/4/23. Ps: I don’t typically respond to reactors this way. I’m. 70, btw.
Ren is definitely a unicorn. I can't really remember having such a visceral reaction to an artist in....forever, maybe Jeff Buckley. He's just such an immense talent. It's tragic that while his music is blowing up, he's in Canada for specialized medical care that will keep him away for a while. I reallllllly hope that people stay tuned and are ready to support him when he's finished his treatment. The world needs artists like him. Check out his band, The Big Push and his work with Chinchilla and his friend Sam Tompkins.
A modern day busker. Storyteller. A Magnificent theatrical, musical, storyteller is what I think he is. Extremely talented. All of his videos are live.
Ok, time to get back on the Ren train. You will love "Fred Again Mashup". He mashes 5 songs from Fred Again. Its wild. Then " to 74/Message in a Bottle"
In violets tale he rewinds by going up the neck, then at the end of it he fast forwards to the hospital scene which was at the start of the song by going down the neck
this trilogy is all one takes, in violets tales ren plays with the natural ambience of the location, hospital bed to narrow corridor, the acoustics change, then as he walks to the stairwell and sings up the stairwell the acoustics change again, eveything is choreographed to the last footstep. ren and samuel(ren's videographer) are fast become masters of the one take.
Most of Rens videos is live and so are these. Ren namned this as BARDCORE. He is greate in every genre but his lyrics and performance skills are on a level I've never seen before.
Ren directs most of his own videos but you're right about most of his videos being made by him and his videographer. Usually his friend Sam. Sam started off with just a cheap camera, when Ren asked if he's shoot his videos and with next to no experience. They'd sometimes use phones! When Ren made a little money one time, he got Sam a much better camera and in more recent videos the camera has been high-end. I'm not sure if 'The Tales' won any awards, though I agree it should have! :) Hi Ren won several awards and Money Game 3 has won a whole shedload of major awards! :)
Ren is incredible. He is honestly one of the best storytellers I’ve ever heard. If you subscribe to him he has been posting some of his life stories while he has been in treatment and he is just as incredible in his written work as well.
Chalk Outlines featuring Chinchilla is amazing! With his band The Big Push they do amazing and I mean amazing live covers of Black Sabbath "War Pigs", Bob Marley's "I Shot The Sheriff" and Ren freaking sounds like Bob it's incredible. They also do "Paint It Black" by The Rolling Stones with Ren playing bass and not guitar and another band member singing and rarely do I say a cover of a song is equal to or better than the original, but all 3 songs I mentioned in my eyes might be better with the little flavor they add in. They also do an awesome version of "Walking On The Moon" by The Police.
We're definitely on planet Ren and it's an amazing place to be. No one has excited me this much I think ever, and I get excited seeing others react to him. Absolute genius on every level, he is a poet, a bard, a playwright, story teller, musician, actor... Just everything. He has had a very tough life and is currently getting treatment in Canada, I have subscribed to you yesterday and will be here for the Ren rabbit hole along with you. Thankyou for your reaction 💗
Sad to see there haven't been more reaction videos from you. You're one of the best I've seen with your insights and appreciation. If you do start back up with the reactions, I would recommend the following mind-blowing "breaking the mold" artists and a song: 1. Jinjer - Pisces; 2. Dimash Kudaibergen - Sinful Passion
Thank you so much for that. I hope to back doing more reactions and music. It’s been a rough few months dealing with some medical and time issues. But I appreciate the support and recommendations 🙏
Great reaction but if you pause, which you should, always skip back 10 seconds or so you dont miss anything :) I think people have decided his style is Bard-core...also recommend The Hunger, Losing It, Chalk Outlines. In fact all of them!
The metal sound with the gunshots at the end of Screech's tale is the metal tag on the zipper of his starter jacket bouncing off the guitar as he hunches over. Its super fitting though and adds to the effect.
Best reaction video ive seen to this trilogy, Ren is genius and this trilogy is a masterpiece, violets tale is my fave its like a million songs in one, and at one point i forgot was watching Ren and fekt like i was watching stevie the boyfriend he gets into character so well
Still gives me the chills no matter how often I watch this 🥺 I'm glad you got the twist. I am so sad about how many reactors don't get the whole ending of this Tale
You're correct, these pieces are all recorded live, each act in a single take. I like your reactions. I won't bother suggesting a song, they're all wonderful in different ways. .
You're properly immersed in Ren's Bardcore, digital minstrel world now, it's a fabulous place. Good reaction. I enjoyed it. A lot of what Ren does is far lighter and more uplifting than this. he covers a lot of ground.
Great reaction and breakdown. Ren is a musical and lyrical genius!!! Just to note, Violet's Tale was written/released over 2 years after Jenny and Screech's Tales!!! 🏴
Welcome to Planet Ren, Ren's world. I love it. Power and truth, the RENegade RENaissance is here. 'I raise my fist, the anti-capitalistic pis*sed I revel. In society collapsing. Fantastic now pump the treble' New subscriber here. Love your work.
I've been adding to this while watching the reaction so bear with me - Firstly I love the weird oral/musical introductions he does - it's like the orchestral introduction when a super-posh play starts in a pricey theatre and the curtain rises. It sets the scene beautifully for what's to come. I've also noticed a similarity to early Arctic Monkeys (When The Sun Goes Down or Leave Before The Lights Come On) - the lyrics are incredibly lean, there's not a single word that doesn't tell the story.
"It seems live...now" Buddy, he coughed during the first song, also accidentally says "Borl named Jenny and boy named Screech" when they very first meet....how much more "THIS IS LIVE" can it scream before you notice? XD XD XD
Such a great reaction. Ren is welsh but lives in Brighton. He’s currently in Canada receiving treatment for his illness. This Genre and also Hi Ren is Bardcore. Ren can perform in all of the styles you mentioned, so you did great picking them all out of one song. ( I subscribed right then) There is 13 years of his music on RU-vid. I think you should either do a song which purely showcases his voice next, like How to be Me’ or chalk outlines. Or he’s an insanely good rapper, so I’d go with Genesis or The hunger. Ren was I in a band until recently called ‘The big Push’ there are some great busking video’s from them. ‘War Pigs’ is my favourite but they’re all really good. Welcome to the Ren Rabbit Hole 🕳️ 🐇 🖤🤘
This really reminds me of early 20th century music. Something like The Threepenny Opera. 'See, the shark has teeth like razors, and he wears them in his face'...that kind of thing. Nobody else writes that kind of stuff these days. Just Ren.
Ren is part of the band The Big Push live street performances are great. I shot the Sheriff Road to Zion cover or War Pigs are among my favourites. Also love the covers of Englishman in New York and Bongo bong.
JSYK, the end wasn't time travel. It went back in time for Violets story, and then went forward in time again. Violet was pregnant, and gave birth to twins: Jenny and Screech.
Now Sickboi for a change. Or the Hunger. Or Money Game 1 and 2...You will see a different side of Ren. But just as great. I also completely love his Verve retake of Bittersweet Symphony.
no, it's his tracksuit zip knocking up against his guitar... YES Hi Ren & all these are all shot Live & in One Take. Theatre at its finest. it's not "falling," it's "forwarding" back to "present day" (after he'd "rewound the hands of time")
Applauding. Congrats on a great reaction. I am going to assume you "got it" at the end who Violet was in relation to Jenny & Screech.. The punch in the gut ending, gets me every time!
Yes! And the 2-0-0-5 meaning 2005 and the guitar making the sound of time going forwards and backwards. Then Jenny and screech's tales are set 14 years later in 2019, separated at birth on the death of violet and don't meet until the end and never know. Such an amazing talent!!
Loved your reaction. Yes he is incredible. You mentioned all the little things but missed one. At 16:14 there's a fade to black with blur to indicate Screech dying. To me he is like a Bard or a Mistrel of sorts. He calls himself Bardcore. Thanks!
I think you're right, absolutely, Blake. I think a lot of us are bored with music and movie eb and flows recently. With technology having come to a very big peak in what was possible with CGI and auto tune and a lot of stuff in those categories we have utilized it a lot. NOW we're so used to the sounds and visualizations that people are sick of seeing and hearing it. They want realistic, authenticity, they want something plausible. Things like this, with Ren are very much an "everyman" sort of video with a creative genius in his musical talents and lyrical ability. People see this kind of modern day bard and say "THANK YOU! Real stories from real people with a real instrument it's relatable and emotional" it's very genuine.
Chalk Outlines will show you yet another color to Ren's artistry. The Hunger... too... which induced me to appreciate a genre of music I thought I didn't like. It's phenomenal!
His entire catalog is just nuts. Walks to the beat of his own drum is a gross understatement. Can’t wait for you to see what he can really do. Like tip of the iceberg. Chalk Outlines is another live lyrical type song, Power is a fun jam, illest of our time, Hunger and Genesis are hip hop/rap, he has a lot of reggae and reconcieved tunes that he did busking with a band called the big push.
Wonderful reaction thank you. I definitely agree with what you said at the end and also hope that with Ren and the way his music is blowing up right now, that other unique, creative artists will feel inspired and animated and we'll soon see a bigger shift in the music industry. There's something in Ren that really hits home for many people of my generation that were kids or teens in the 90s with all the alternative music, grunge etc. coming out. I don't know, it's been ages since I've felt this excited about new music :D
A lot of us older folk who loved the music of the 1960’s and 70’s are being drawn to Ren’s music, also. I’m 62 and haven’t been this excited about a new artist in, literally, decades.
