Y'all. If you haven't seen Tony Hawk: Until the Wheels Fall off.....DOOOO IT. It is SO FUCKING good and definitely a rollercoaster of emotions backed by a phenomenal soundtrack.
This 100. I grew up idolizing Tony and it provided so much context for the man behind the myth. Basically cried skater tears at how rad the whole thing was. As soon as Rodney started talking about Tony and their friendship I lost it. 🤙
Hope I don’t get clowned for this, but I got gnarly anxiety and this show is SO helpful. They just have such good chemistry, and seem like such good dudes. Thanks for the show guys!
I hope you are doing alright w your anxiety, just know you aren't alone, we all have our ways of dealing w it and that is super sick that this podcast helps you.
Hey Tony, thanks for mentioning Sin Egelja and John Fox. The two of them had a huge influence on my skateboarding career as a kid and eventual pro. I first saw Sin skate during a contest at my local skatepark here in Five Dock in 1980. I became an instant fan, and within a year he started to mentor me at North Ryde Skatepark. Sin also surprised me with a home visit when I was 13 to take me to get my first sponsorship with OZI Skates. For the 6 months prior to his passing, Sin and I were working on a new shoe company. I miss the big dork every day. Fox was instrumental in getting the Coca-Cola Skate Team together in late 86, and gave me my first job doing demos on that team, the Big Day Out tours between 1992 and 2012, and many other side gigs. Speaking of the BDO, the year you brought up during the podcast was 1997, not 95. An old Sydney pro named David Clancy filmed the Sydney show and perhaps Brisbane. He only ever gave me footage of myself, which is on my RU-vid channel. If you get in touch with him, he may still have footage of everyone else. Apart from Rick Thorne, Mike Frazier was also on that tour. Maybe Dennis McCoy too. I have an old Hawk model that all of you signed.
The Documentary was awesome Tony! Thank you for never throwing in the towel! It's unreal that the X games 900 was 22 yrs. ago! Seems like yesterday watching that infamous feat in sports history! Respect to all the skaters that pushed the limits!
I now live in San Marcos but I’m originally from Oceanside and graduated Oside High in ‘09. It’s such a trip hearing you guys talk about Oside and the high school. Great talk. You guys are my new favorite podcast. 🍕🍕🍕👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
You guys are awesome, Tony I just watched the documentary this weekend absolutely amazing and quick side note today for the first time I practiced dropping in at 36 years old, I swear I spent 40 minutes falling down and 41 minutes getting up. Love what you guys do keep it up
Love this show! Such good dynamics! Ellis you are the man, good questions, keeps the dialog alive, and stays quiet even when interupted. Love yall! /Sweden
There was a kid on Shark Tank that made a business out of that "skateboard that fits in your locker" idea. I think the company is even called Locker Boards.
Docu was awesome! Rodney is a real genius of or time and Lance is Timeless. 2hrs wasn't enough, was left wanting more.. Also, this Show is what Monday's should be!
I love this podcast Ellis stop being so down on yourself you're famous to me I followed your entire career I'm 50 and I am a huge Jason Ellis fan skateboarding radio I've loved your entire career.
This was such a good podcast! This could of went on all day and I wouldn’t have complained for a second! I was more surprised when Ellis said it’s over lol
Mcsqueeb! I think that’s what people eventually called that hard style. I’m in my mid 40s and was a hard core skate grom in the mid and late 80s and definitely had that hair cut, much to my parents chagrin. Im rocking that style for 8th grade year book photo, even had the bangs dyed blond (I have almost black hair). I’ll my sake friends had some variation of that cut at the time.
What's up everyone hope you all crush this week! What better way to start it than with our favorite podcast . If you haven't watched the doc do it NOW!!! Inspiring does not even begin to describe this film!
I got one of the worst copies of the McSqueeb ever. I was like 11 and I went to a local barber who was probably in his 70’s. I asked for “the Tony Hawk”. He had no idea so I tried to explain. I didn’t know both sides of the head were shaved though. I came home with one side of my head shaved. I actually thought it looked cool until I got home and my mom pointed out how horrible it was…then I cried 😂
Why is there a skateboard on the wall made up of a couple Irish hurling sticks with a set of trucks and wheels mounted to them?? Did the Braille house send that your way or whatsgoing on with that one?
The Devil Lock came out way before Flock of Seguil's. The Misfits formed in 1977 and the devil lock came shortly after. The devil lock wasn't a hip idea following mainstream culture. It was was totally out of left field based on early rock and roll/ Rockabilly icons. Flock of Seguil's hair was just a extention of mainstream new wave styles.
I was getting ready to ask if could buy an autograph... I had no idea this was a thing... I have had my hawk deck since 87. and I guess if I ever see you, I wont ask. But better believe I'm saying hi dude!
Sucks hearing about people trying to get stuff signed. I would love one day to get my board from the 80s signed. Also I know for a fact that there are people who sell the information to those people and popurati for LAX. I use to spend a ton of time working there and they would have the list and would have all the different people's pictures coming in that day at Lax.
