Taliban Attends Islamic Summit in Sign of Rapprochement | Vantage with Palki Sharma
A representative of the Taliban regime in Afghanistan attended an Islamic summit organised by the OIC last week. The OIC, or the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, is a group of around 57 Muslim nations. Though the Taliban's foreign minister attended the OIC summit in 2021, he has skipped later meetings of the organisation. This latest summit has raised questions about how governments should deal with the Taliban. While they have consolidated their position in Kabul, concerns remain about women's rights and minority welfare there. Countries, including the US and India, have held talks with Taliban officials despite not recognising their regime in Kabul. Does this hybrid strategy work?
