You know I'm not "that guy" that jumps on this with just about every WWE release, but Black, along with Wyatt releases were truly baffling to the highest degree. Two immensely talented guys who will be a massive loss to their respective rosters. WWEs loss is AEWs gain though....

Vince doesn't know what to do with a lot of talent, not just Tommy... that's as clear as water. We have in the past 3 years countless examples about it.

I can't wait until Paul Heyman gets released (and it seems like a possibility given the release news so far this year). His ideas plus the young AEW talent plus Tony Khan's money would be a sight to see.

Vince was absolutely mad at Paul Heyman and Black got stuck in the middle. And it hit its breaking point when Heyman suggested Black be involved in the Undertaker vs AJ Styles match

Tbh Alesiter and Bray Wyatt should've replaced Kane and Undertaker as the dark horror guys in WWE have a passing of the torch match and let them be the supernatural wrestlers. I hope they both thrive now.

He’ll be a great heel in AEW. Cody put him over as a killer. Hope they keep his momentum going. A Hangman feud would be fire, especially with the Dark Order in the mix.

It's funny, I remember JR saying something a while back about being part of your own creative, and if you don't like an idea, offer an alternative, and that not enough guys were doing that in WWE. I feel like this is proof that that system no longer works, because it sounds like clearly Malakai has ideas, he had a vision for his character, he offered those alternatives, and they fell on deaf ears. He sounds very intelligent, I am interested in seeing what he does going forward. I'd like to see more from him in the ring, see what he can do outside of a squash match, but so far his movement is very crisp, and the few moves he did do looked strong.

Problem is Paul Heyman is a great mind but lies through his teeth.

I like how they capitalized the AB in ABout, because it's Alister Black's initials. Don't know it it's intentional, but I'm gonna roll with it.

I just listened to the full podcast. It was great to hear Malakai's perspective of time in wwe and his process. Think he would be great in any character he can bring. It would be cool if he got some disciples his character makes sense as the head of a faction of dark characters.but ultimately it's a honor to be able watch him kick ass on AEW. Vince McMahon was the problem. Once he was sent home and Triple H and Stephanie took over the company and creative, we saw a lot of people return to WWE and the product got way better. The board of directors did bring Vince McMahon back and they compared his booking to Triple H's at Wrestlemania. Triple H's booking of Wrestlemania Saturday was way better than what Vince booked on Saturday night. That's when they put Triple H in complete control of creative and talent relations and Vince McMahon has no say in those. I find it awful funny that Stephanie stepped down from her post and resigned from the company when Vince McMahon returned.

Tommy said the greatest statement about Vince, “I think he wants to figure it out for himself”. That’s his problem. If it’s not HIS idea or makes sense to HIM he’s against it. I don’t think it’s his age, it’s not helping. But he’s “understanding” is no longer in vogue. In sports terms, he’s a defensive liability. Get him off the court.

Buddy Murphy and Aleister Black Matches in NXT were FN Great! I think Both companies aren't/weren't utilizing Murphy's talent.

I was wondering why Black was so under-utilized by WWE when he was so popular with fans. After the way they put him on the shelf, I really wasn't surprised when WWE released him. I was thrilled when AEW scooped him up. They are a company that will know how to utilize his talents.

I think Vince's plan is drowning the market with too many talent. I mean looking at it he kind of succeeded. Look at FTR, Shawn Spears, Matt Hardy, Pac, Matt Cardona. They were supposed to be huge and never made it. Now when it was Miro, Malakai and Andrade's time to shine but again getting drowned out by CM Punk and Daniel Bryan's debut. One of the things that I've always found odd about this podcast but I wouldn't change it for the world is the way Jericho goes into ad reads. This episode is a perfect example. There's this one part where malakai is talking about learning from veterans and when malakai is done making his point and stops talking Jericho starts talking, sounding totally different by the way which just makes it obvious that this was recorded later and edited in, and Jericho says "and I want to talk about about what you learned from Shawn Micheals but before we do malakai I just want to say that if your the type of person who likes working on your own car..." and he just goes into an ad read. And it's like obviously he didn't actually say that right? Like obviously he didn't interrupt this interview because right at that moment he felt like he just HAD to tell malakai black about a fucking online car parts store. Obviously it was recorded later and edited in. Which is fine but I just find it funny how everytime he tries to make it seem like a natural part of the conversation.

The "Knock on my door" segments were f'n absurd.

I like AB martial art skills and the match between him & Murphy was the most entertaining match that night. Vince has messed up the careers of NXT stars and I don't believe Vince understands how much the fans like these wrestlers & thier characters.

I have been a WWE fan for years but Vince McMahon has lost his mind. Raw is horrible and Smackdown is repetitive. I'm so tired of seeing old stars like Goldberg and Brock Lesnar come back over and over and over again. NXT is the best product WWE has. It's time to let the new talent to be the stars. I really didn't understand why the would let a talent like Black go because he was really over with the audience. If you look any any of his matches he was always getting cheered. Buddy Murphy and Black were great at TLC then they tore the house down with an amazing rematch on Raw the next night.

And wwe will never pay off the seeds they planted. I doubt if he stayed he would have done it

- I'll put this here as well so that people can read it if they want to: Vince is old, yes. But out of touch? No. That's just IWC hyperbole. Huge difference between not understanding what people want, and not caring about what they want. There's a HUGE misconception amongst the internet that Vince is a senile tyrant devoid of any creativity or interpersonal skills. Just about every single wrestler who has talked candidly about him via books or interviews have spoken highly of him and given insight that nobody without intimate knowledge of the man would know. Some even go so far as to call him a father figure. (Jericho included.) Part of it is political maneuvering, sure, but a lot is based in fact, so I wouldn't be quick to ignore it all. The few who haven't are typically the wrestlers with difficult personalities. From my experience in watching, reading, and listening to a lot of material, it really seems as though Vince loves to push home-grown talent. Unless the talent is already a megastar coming in, and an undeniable draw (such as was the case with AJ Styles), he won't give them the time of day if they try to suggest their own angles to him. He doesn't talk to creative much because he expects them to do what he demands, and they tend to obey. Best way to succeed with him is to - no other way to put it - kiss his ass and work your ass off with whatever is asked of you, until you earn his respect. It's a very old-school mentality. At that point, if the character is getting over, he'll start to become more receptive to ideas, because he can trust and appreciate you. If you're not over, he'll try to repackage you and expect you to keep living up to your responsibilities. Shawn Michaels pretty much said as much in his first book from 2005. We all know how difficult he was when he was younger, yet he never broke that bond with Vince because it was based on mutual respect. Vince makes for an easy scapegoat in the eyes of the immature. No surprise, then, that a lot of internet smarks love to hate on him at every chance. Similarly, a lot of younger talent just have undeserved egos and aren't willing to be humble and patient yet hungry enough to prove themselves. It's a tough balance to maintain, and sometimes people get lost in the shuffle of corporate mechanisms. That seems to have been Tommy's fate from what he stated here. The worst thing to do is become bitter at the company, because one never knows what the future could hold. A lot of talent either leave or get fired, refocus on evolving as a talent, then get rehired and do really well. Bobby Lashley, Brock Lesnar, and Drew McIntyre are all perfect examples of this. TL;DR Cooperation+drawing power = creative freedom No cooperation or drawing power = lack of freedom and/or termination.
