I'm a pianist, but I use organ moves for talk music. I also apply some jazz stuff like Chick Corea, Cory Henry, Snarky Puppy, and sometimes pop progressions gospeled out a bit.
You may think these videos just lay here but I spent a solid hour with your vid and shared it on Facebook (where it just lays there, sorry 'bout that.) I'm a Assembly Of God music minister who deals with difficulties from my players that I shouldn't have too. Black church players are the most disciplined and professional group I have ever seen. Being black is just an a grammar thing because I'm had my share of rappers paying for studio time spent writing for the next verse.
Do you use the drop 2 with this runs? I saw some videos here about that, but this is the first that I understand. I try to play that style, but I don't understand everything, where I know more about this style of gospel organ?it's amazing! Thaks man, God bless you - Brazil
drop 2 chords may or may not work, although I'm sure a gifted player like our host could work it in. I started gospel piano by listening to the basic plainest form of gospel - meaning the stuff that is too simple to come from a black gospel pianist. Elton John's first two records (listen to Burn Down the Mission) you see right away the use of octaves but not 10ths and how he uses as much space as he can. Then look at stride (Dorothy Donagen - an almost forgotten artist who was only rediscovered in her 70s after her debut with Cab Calloway in the 40s. She was a strong black women when that wasn't cool. It takes some work to get to the place you can realize what our host is doing.
Your lessons are so hard to follow you do a good job on explaining the move but u absolutely lose us on context this video would’ve been better if at the end of the demonstration u explained instead of just played what keys u choose to go to and the number degrees but instead it just looked like you were pressing buttons but good lesson just a little better explaining while u play needed...
