Arsenio Hall had the Olsen Twins on.They were nervous children and just said yes or no or shrugged their shoulders.Arsenio finally looked at the camera and said I am in talk show host pergatory here folks.
I've always liked Arsenio, but my Lord----he was a terrible interviewer. The Olsen Twins acted the same way on Johnny Carson's show, but he handled it brilliantly (on account of being a stupendous interviewer).
Tren Kokoko He’s genuinely really nice and laid back. He just isn’t a fan of fame, it makes him uncomfortable. He gets nervous on talk shows, he usually does a grumpy old man shtick.
Personally...I would rather watch Mark Hamill do an impersonation of Harrison Ford than listen to Harrison Ford. He is soooooo boring. Whenever I see that Harrison Ford is a guest on ANY late night show, I turn the channel quickly! You can tell right from the start that he would rather be somewhere else...or doing anything else. If a producer is wanting the movie to sell more tickets, please get a different actor to promote it, because Ford is a big turn off. Mark Hamill is such an articulate & all around good guy, that he is interesting to listen to. Especially when he is telling stories about the early days of Star Wars actors; Ford and Fisher!
why do u guys come down on him i think hes pretty funny and cool you should see the assholes we have in australia as hosts their all macho shitheads big tough wankas whom think we are remotely interested in whatever they talk about i,l have jimmy fallon over them anyday
Jimmy fallon is not the worth only because you don't like him. Maybe he not that good but hes not the worst. Your clearly 🙄 not a fan of his. You hate him. And you like him than don't watch him. And his not a guest he's a talk show host.
@@canonkingsley6569 I'm happy he isn't. You don't have to hate him only because you think he's not good. And apparently he has more than 25 millions subscribers. How much do you have? Probably way less than him. Shut up.
That was actually a publicity stunt for Joaquin’s mockumentary that aired about 2 months after that interview. Since then, There has been some really insightful interviews between the two of them and mr.letterman knows that it was all a way to promote Joaquins work!
Is anyone surprised? Many celebrities are scintillating in front of a camera with words written by a writer. In real life, most of them are as dull as dishwater.
Interviews are just questions and answers, it's sometimes hard to make a 5 to 10 minute interview as entertaining as possible. Graham Norton is good at this as he gets all his guests out and throws a question out but doesn't interrupt and let's his guests conversate with each other. The American chatshows are not as good with this.
Most of them? And you met them all where? What a completely clueless observation...I happen to have been in the industry for over 30 years...and not as an actor..you are way way off
You know, this might be actually interesting if we could hear the interaction BETWEEN THE GUESTS AND THE HOSTS, instead of being treated like children and having a third party "tell us" what was said and by whom!
Terry Lucas honestly they should’ve included clips from every interview but it seems like they just wanted to make a ten minute video which sucks. i came to see some awkward interviews and now i have to look for the interviews themselves.
Or you can act like the adult you claim to be and realize this channel does highlights and you go to these shows actual sites and watch the full clips. Adults don't need everything fed to them.
Some people are very good and interesting being interviewed, others not. They are paid a fee to appear on these shows and have opportunity to sit back, relax and tell their story, promote their book, movie or whatever it is they are there for. They should be mindful that a lot of people might be watching and should present themselves well. Unfortunately there are those that simply are brainless, uninteresting, uneducated slobs.
"You best put some verbs in your answers pretty soon! I'm a mandated reporter and I will be filing a report after the show if things don't change real fast!" Uhh, sorry Dr. Phil, you don't even have a license anymore (as Chris mentions above) and even if you did, there are specific standards you have to fulfill, namely, working with a family/child for far longer than an hour on TV. I believe the minimum is a month of intensive interaction and that seems to be the universal accepted practice in the US. "I don't ask them why they act this way, I ask, why not!" If I hear him say that one more time, I'm going to put a bullet thru my TV! Actually, I can handle Dr Phil....in small doses. The biggest problem is, he claims to be a Bible Christian, yet he supports things that are clearly defiant of God's Word. Don't say you are a Christian and then have "psychics" on your show reading people in the audience. Not that I believe any of it, but the Bible is crystal clear on that subject among others he walks the line with and TD Jakes should be ashamed of himself for coming on and promoting such blasphemy. Of course, I don't know how devoted Jakes is to God.
@@ElectricLadyland87 exactly why I hate all the Dr. Phil's, Oz's, etc... It's far too much about being entertaining, selling snake oil, and voodoo to day time tv zombies. So much Misinformation that could really affect someone's mental and physical health by displaying "medical advice" and abhorrent behavior.
He's horrific and not in the slightest bit interested in helping anyone - his only incentive is to score points while making his 'guests' look even worse than they would have without his interference. And the audience lap it up and applaud like a herd of mushy-brained sheep.
That interview with Jerry Seinfeld was so hard to watch the first time I saw it. It was just Seinfeld absolutely berating the host for asking a simple question.
@@winthorpetroismaybe so, but that didn't give Jerry an excuse to be an ass hat. He's just an entitled jerk that let the fame and money go to his head.
Be very careful saying a black person was your worst guest there Ferguson. Good...you said she was probably having a bad day and she's a very good person. Smart man.
So much narration! You have the clips, why not play the actual converaation rather than narrating what is going on like you're dubbing a foreign movie?
My friends a makeup artist on Loraine and says how Loraine was joking and laughing with spacey it’s not till recently she’s started saying about him being rude
It makes you realize how shallow and superficial show-biz is! I'm just amazed that any late night show host can have any conversation with any of these overpaid actors or singers.
Just like in life, a lot of them are nice and humble and interesting. Some are assholes and you just cant wait to get away from them. It's just how people are.
Carson didn't like interviewing Hope because Carson liked the interviews and humor to emerge organically and Hope couldn't be spontaneously funny. All his interviews had to be scripted, jokes and all, and Johnny hated that.
harrison ford has literally given EVERYONE shit.... from letterman to conan, fallen to colbert.... he's just known for being either generally uninterested and bored, or stoned out of his mind. his typically known for being the absolute worst interview of all time for many people.
Harrison Ford never seems to like interviews. He seems like a private person. Private, but likeable. He seems like he would be a hard interviewee, but not an unpleasant person.
I can't believe Larry King said Phyllis Gates was his worst guest. This from a man that interviewed Mark Felt when he obliviously had dementia and couldn't remember anything about Watergate. She gave short answers at times but at other timesshe was quite revealing about their short marriage. I was sad to hear she never remarried. Hudson and his agent really didn't do right by her.
Bob Hope is no surprise to me. When my mother was a little girl in the 70s, she loved Bob Hope. One time, he came to our town (to our mall, if I remember correctly) to do some sort of meet and greet, but for whatever reason mom couldn’t go. My grandfather met him and asked if he could give him an autograph/signed photo for her, and Hope basically cursed him out. Pappy thoroughly disliked him after that, to say the least.
I heard that Bob Hope was a big womanizer. It makes me gag to picture it. What woman would want an affair with him? His wife, Delores must have been a saint to put up with him.
@@suerobinson5260 I was in college in 1965..He was appearing nearby and the college wanted to honor him with an award for his patriotism. When they did get a hold of him he said.." Will it be televised on National TV? and they said, " No.." It would be a small ceremony at the university with students and faculty.. and he said.."If it's not televised I will decline.." So photo ops only for Hope. I have loathed him since that day.
She apparently must've had it with him too. They allegedly lived in separate wings of their Palm Springs house. Even had different driveways and entrances.
Big of Grant to own up to his attitude on Stewarts show; maybe if American celebrities acknowledge their fits more often we would have more respect for them.
That may be true, but at least he doesnt ask the same damn questions every other talking head does, where basically they ask the same damn thing, and you'll see the same damn answer on 5 different interviews.
californiahummus I always thought Cher and David Letterman were brilliant together, they had so much chemistry and banter with each other, it looked like Letterman had such a soft spot for Cher.
@@Terelon He is obligated, thats why he does them. Promoting the film is part of the job whether an actor wants to do it or not. Personally I'd hate answering the same tired questions and telling the same stories over and over again. The interviewer is just trying to do their job, but you can't really blame the celebrity for not enjoying it.
@@Tyger20 You don' have to do anything in this life you don't want to do, I've heard of many decline interviews and walk out, he can choose those options if he wants truthfully, he can prob suggest in his contract he doesn't wanna do them, ijs
_"She explained that Ford acted as if he didn't like the movie he was promoting."_ Yeah, she obviously doesn't know much about Harrison Ford. He's always like that. lol
Maureen Tuohy I think Harrison Ford acted so painfully boring during interviews was so the paparazzi would leave him be. If that was the case it worked because he comes across as such a boring person.
I saw that Cavett show with those three stooges wannabes and they were total asses. The thing is I liked them and was a fan of Cassavetes’ films but they were far too old to be acting like rebellious teenagers or whatever the hell they were going for.
Id love to actually see these interviews instead of having to imagine them whilst listening to the unnecessary narration. This woman actually ruins these countdown bids
Actually Larry King’s behaviour here is pretty disgusting. It’s easy to target an old lady, so brave of him to make fun of her. Why did they invite her if she had nothing to say.
The one about Oceans 8 made me roll my eyes. You put 5 women on a couch together that have been getting to know each other for like a year and become close. The interviews for that movie were hilarious and chaotic. It is great to see a bunch of women together that aren't all stiff and worried about their image. They just had fun.
Larry King had to be the only person on the planet who didn't know that Jerry Seinfeld decided to walk away from his show. He deserved to be mocked for his lack of just being aware of things happening in the world in general.
@@botticellichick6393 yup. That's the one! Jian Ghomeshi is a great interviewer (just ignore his personal life). But, it is probably the most awkward interview I've ever seen.
I went to a filming of Conan back in 2014/15 and they had Paul Simon singing and doing an interview. They had to film the singing twice and the interview was slurring and/or one word answers. I don't know if it was alcohol, drugs or what...but it was bad...thank goodness it was the last 10 minutes of the show. Being a fan of Paul's for 40 years it was sad seeing him like that.
I just thought that and then saw your comment- I looked again and it seems more, maybe, alcohol-bender, no shave, no shower than anything else. He has always looked put-together.
Having seen many a talk show, I'd say Hugh Grant was one of the most reliably good guests out there. He's always charming and entertaining. Robert de Niro is easily the worst. As dull as anyone you could find off the street.
I'd totally agree on the De Niro comments. Hes one of the most uninteresting guests you ever see. He's like watching a Belicheck interview or something. Cliche, boring, its like watching someone that skips like every third or fourth word and you gotta figure out "WTF are they talking about?"
Larry king was not asking if he quit or was let go...he meant that Mr. Seinfeld left on his own 'free will'. Jerry should have have put his hands behind his head stretched out and smiled with appreciation and proudly should have stated 'I started it, and I finnished it'. That's what Larry King was looking for. But what we saw was outlandish and very defensive. Was this a metro-pampered-hipster or a struggling from the boots strap start the day by the strength of one bean and 64 ounces of soda regulate joe? I couldn't help but wonder, but I kinda figured he was a well off citizen. But than again maybe he did it on purpose...dun bud dut dunt du du du
Barbara Walters said that Warren Beatty was the worst person she ever interviewed. Not because he was hateful, but because he was so boring. I can totally see that.
Tuesday Weld surely has to be at the top of the list for worst guests of Johnny Carson. She was so unanimated and gave terse, deadpan answers to his interview questions. Then she said something to the effect of, "This has been fun. When can I come back? Johnny's answer was something like, " How about, never!"
I interviewed Macy Gray for a jazz magazine I wrote for a few years ago (random interesting fact: the interview took place on the morning of the day Trump was elected). She was an interesting but challenging interview subject.
Matt Lohr I saw an interview where she said she wasn't in a good place back then and was high all the time. She said she'd be sleeping during interviews that's why she wore the sunglasses. Haha. Did she have on sunglasses?
It's true about Robert DiNero....he is a non event...In an interview, the camera will be on him but unless he has a scrip, he has absolutely nothing to say! Thank goodness he's a great Actor!
B Barnett an overrated actor who always plays the same role. Like a male Julia Roberts ...probably not their fault, it is called type casting, I think !
Just watched the Crispin Glover one again. That was high-level performance art that would put a smile on Andy Kaufman's face. Everyone needs to watch that one.
No idea how anyone could be grumpy w/that woman walking past you in the living room. My only concern would be making sure I could keep my caloric intake high enough for any given moment an opportunity to pounce presented itself.
