LESS THAN 7% OF HEAD CHEFS AND RESTAURANT OWNERS ARE WOMEN.
Inspired by Joanna James’ award-wining and thought-provoking documentary, “A Fine Line,” the second HMAA Presents Talk Story & Pau Hana with #HFWF will explore why women in the culinary industry are still fighting an uphill battle in this male-dominated field. Our panel of female culinary leaders will share their thoughts about the struggles women continue to encounter in balancing life - in and outside the kitchen - and how barriers and obstacles have affected them, such as gender equity, wage gap, access to capital, mentorship, training, business skills, childcare and networking. Then, it’s time for Pau Hana as you sip wines with Joseph Phelps Vineyards President Clarice Turner, while enjoying music by singer songwriter, Taimane, the 2019 Na Hoku Hanohano Favorite Entertainer of the Year, in partnership with Outrigger Resorts’ Kani Ka Pila Music Jam.
Let’s examine how women are overcoming these challenges by Breaking the Kitchen Door.
