That nail is literally the scariest horror villain of the last decade.

Re: The old man yelling It's been a while since I've seen this in its entirety, but the impression I got was that the old woman (his wife?) died from the creatures... and in his grief, he yelled out. He had just given up, basically, and didn't want to live in this fucked up world anymore. I also think it's a good parallel (and foreshadowing?) to the father yelling out at the end. The old man cried out because a life was lost, while the father cried out in order to save a life.

In an interview, John said that he was approached to direct a horror movie, but he didn't know anything about horror so instead, he created a family drama with horror as a backdrop.

One thing I like about this movie is getting to see actual disabled characters in movies who aren't just caricatures. Having a disabled actor actually play that character is great to see too.

The monsters' armored skin makes bullets useless. The high freq. sound causes them to open their armor head plates making them vulnerable to the shotgun.

John Krasinski had to fight really hard to have Millicent Simmonds be able to play his daughter in this movie as other parties did not want an actual deaf girl playing the role.

John’s yell to save his children is one of the best moments in film I’ve ever seen. There was so much pain and love in his eyes and his voice. Just. Ugh. So so so good.

John and Emily are a cheat code in life. No way two people can be as talented as they are and such amazing human beings. And also married to each other. It’s just not fair lol

There are so many great actors but man John can convey SO MUCH just with his eyes. It is actually crazy.

The sequel feels less like a new movie and more like an immediate continuation, which is good.

When A Quiet Place 2 came out, a cinema in my city did a double feature of both of them. Completely packed cinema, exactly as you said, so quiet you could hear a pin drop, and there I am trying to eat popcorn as quietly as possible xD Completely brilliant though!

John is sacrificing himself in the most emotional scene. Nat: “oh he’s putting it into drive so it can move”. You and your logistical analysis in the most emotional moments lol

That old man’s wife was just killed by those monsters. He was distraught and wanted to die, John Krasinski trying to shush him after someone he loved was ripped to shreds made him lose his shit and commit suicide by alerting the monsters to his presence.

The fact that John Krasinski directed and had a hand in writing this movie when he was known for comedy is amazing. Same with Jordan Peele directing and writing Get Out and some other movies ... Crazy Also the girl they cast in this movie was actually deaf. John really pushed to get a deaf actor so it was real.

This might sound weird, or even kinda sadistic or something, but I love when you get so worked up that you tear up. I think I just feel comforted in knowing that there are people out there with so much compassion that even a movie can make them feel something so intensely. And it just gives a strong sense of honesty and openness to your reactions.

I now DESPERATELY need to see Nat’s reaction to Midsommar. She’ll lose her freaking mind.

I cried SO hard at that scream at the end to save his kids.

“Natmares” sounds like someone saying nightmares with a southern accent.

I saw this in the cinema, after the intro there was barely a peep out of the audience. Everyone filed out afterwards more or less silently. As soon as we got to the lobby some kid was making a load of noise and people were confused why 100 people simultaneously stared daggers at him :D

Watching this movie in the theaters was hands down one of the most unique experiences of my life - it was during the premiere weekend, and normally for a big movie like this around here you just know there's going to be at least a few people quietly chatting or reacting to movie and certainly a lot of food/drinks noises; however, the room was absolutely crowded during the movie and you wouldn't hear a single thing (besides the occasional sharp breath or the shuffling of someone covering their mouth during the tense moments). Like, people genuinely and without protest were just silent the entire movie. It was almost like there was this mutual agreement or understanding between everyone that this was a special occasion and you should do your best to be silent - to the point that pretty much everyone who bought popcorn or candy finished their food before the trailers ended so as to not disturb the silence. It was definitely a crazy (but good) thing to experience.

My reading of the “Old Man”, is that the Old Woman was his wife, that she was killed by one of the Creatures and he subsequently lost the will to live.

Lee's death guts me every single time. It's one thing to want to tell your family you love them before the end. He's trying to heal his relationship with his daughter for the rest of her life, too. "I have always loved you"

saw this in theaters and was really confused by the constant humming during the first half hour.. turned out it was the AC in the theater that ive never heard before because its never been that quiet

Also, the young girl who played the deaf girl IS deaf in real life. John wanted to hire her specifically because of that (and her talent).

The way I understood that old man scene was that he had just lost his wife and chose to commit “suicide” rather than live on without her. Kinda of a plant to pay off later for the dad’s sacrificial “suicide”.

I love that John said this was a love letter to his kids. Before watching youd be like huh? But after watching you can totally see the love in the movie!

This movie is so good on so many levels, even the kids are great actors. Horror movie tropes usually feel contrived and cheep in most movies, but this one, i feel like this one earned them all.

John described this movie as a movie of love.. and what a parent will do to protect their kids. So, horror movie... ok... but more, I think a demonstration of a parent's love for their family and what extents they will go to protect them.

the sound, or lack of it, was just so well done. The fact it was a story about family is such the right way to do a "scary" movie. Yeah, the bloody hand on the shower door was unfair jump scare.

I loved the first one, but loved the second one even more because it does the exact amount of world building the viewer wants after the original while still focusing on the family. So good.

Natalie, you are the first reaktor who reacted just like me when she saw pregnancy. I saw the film in a press screening with 8 other critics. It has never been so quiet in a cinema. Every sound was like a bomb strike. But what particularly impressed me was that all of the actors showed more range in acting without saying a word than many others with thousands of words. Hats off for the script, the direction and the acting. And thank you for your great reaction.

32:42 Nat, that man lost his last relative on that scene, and he looked like a tired old man who, on that moment, decided we was through with life and all he had to do to end it was to make a loud noise. This scene is really profound if you think about it.

Train to Busan is another suspenseful sad horror film and one of my favourites, but i know how much Nat hates zombies😂

Finally!!! remaining movies I wish to watch your reactions on: - A Quiet place 2 - Interstellar - Annihilation (fits perfectly in Natmare month)

Pt. 2 is absolutely bonkers. In my opinion it's absolutely on par with part 1; my friends actually love part 2 more. What I love about these movies is that they have heart. A lot of the stand out moments are just the quiet moments with the characters (that waterfall scene is one of my favorites). We care about all of the characters, and when they're in danger, we freak out. It's insane how these movies have minimal audible dialogue, yet Krasinkski crafts this super engaging story. He's got a promising future in the directing world.

That was my favourite reaction vid yet... your look of sheer joy at the end... and that level of character bad-assery (sure that's a word) reminded me very much of Sigourney's "get away from her you b!tch!" line. Movies like this work because the heroes are reluctant, relatable, and not invincible. You will love the second part too, one of the best follow ups in ages for my money.

I've watched her interviews after this movie and she talked about seeing her husband in a completely different light. His brilliance is next level. She said she was just in awe.

one thing i feel this movie captures perfectly is that even when fully prepared...when used to the dangers of the world...you cant prepare for everything and HUMANS MAKE MISTAKES...ESPECIALLY KIDS...THATS HOW THEY LEARN...and it always frustrates me in some movies when characters are dumber than usual but the threat is so large in this movie that one mistake can cascade so much, feels believable.

I like that you recognized the implant. 80-90% of reactors see the first scene with the cochlear implant and say "oh, she has a hearing aid". If it was a hearing aid, she'd be dead. Hearing aids work by taking the sound it detects and amplifying it into the user's ear. The monsters would definitely be able to hear it. Cochlear implants take the sound they detect and transmit it directly into the ear inside the skull. Cochlear implant users can even connect a phone directly to the implant and play whatever they want as loud as they want and no one else could possibly hear. The reason hers puts out feedback when the monsters are around is because it was modified in her dad's failed attempt at fixing it.

I love this movie. Watched it like 6 times already. Acting is superb, Sound design is superb. John and Emily duet is superb, no wonder they are husband and wife in real life. Bathtub scene still give me goosebumps to this day. Her Scream? god damn it. An his farewell to his daughter still makes me emotional to this day.

The jump scares were earned in this movie because of its setup of the environmental limitations of sound. Other movies use jump scares to startle the viewer. This movie used jump scares more organically because noise was a weapon in this world.

You should watch “The Descent”, also has a lot of well done jumpscares.

This one has been in my watch list for ages, so thanks for giving that little kick to finally watch it. The old man brings to mind a story I heard of a Hollywood couple in the 60s(maybe). What I remember was that she died of natural causes, then he died a few days later , leaving a note "not without her". The infant mask isn't "gas to keep it from crying". They're giving the baby oxygen while sealing him in a "soundproof" box. The whiteboard early on shows that the creatures are armored, but if you look after the feedback attack, they can no longer close the armor segments over their "ears", (assuming some short term muscle spasm effect) which is how the shotgun finally works.

I love how John Krasinski wrote and directed this movie as well! Especially since he featured his real life wife Emily Blunt. Amazing performances.

The annoying kid(s) in a horror movie trope that does something stupid to either alert the bad guy/alien/monster/creature that leads to people dying is usually why I hate kids in movies... within the first few mins of this movie, I love what they did even though that kind of thing is normally taboo in movies.

I feel like this is the perfect kind of horror movie for people who don’t like horror. Me and my mom are not horror people and both watched it and loved it! My whole family (including my Dad and Sud who like horror) went and saw the second one in theaters this year! It was great!

I think it's less "aliens," for you, than it is great writing and fine acting, with solid characters in a compelling story. Those are great ingredients in any genre, including horror and suspense.

Six minutes in, you mention you hope they're not walking to a cabin in the woods. "Cabin in the Woods" with Chris Hemsworth. That would be a FANTASTIC addition to "Natmares."

Hard to believe Jim from the Office can scare the living daylights out of anyone.

The most surreal experience I’ve ever had in a packed theatre. NOONE was making any noise. No moving in their chairs, no eating, it was utterly bizarre.

The whole farm being a whole horror is accurate. Over the years on living on a farm: -The farm help got crushed by bales (luckily unharmed) -The farm help got trampled by TWO cows (got out with broken arm and ribs) -A cow or bull (can't remember which) took out one of the tractor door windows almost tipping it in the process. -My stepdad fell in the slurry pit (it luckily wasn't full) -My stepdads leg got broken by a pole while mixing the slurry pit. This is only the stuff I can remember, I know there's more.

When I saw this in theaters, there was this guy and his tinder date beside me and through the entire film, he kept boasting about how he could defeat the monster. He talked through the entire film and she looked miserable. Safe to say he probably didn't get a second date.

I saw this movie when it first came out and it was amazing how when the movie began everyone was quiet. No opening of candy, no rustling of any kind and no whispering. It was as quiet as the movie. Yes you could hear a pin drop.

As far as horror movies go, this one was perfection as far as being directed and produced goes. The audio, the visuals, the acting, everything is perfect.

this is one of the very few horror/thriller movies to make me cry as much as it did. A Quiet Place is one of the best directed films i've ever seen, alongside Train to Busan. john and emily's connection on screen is so strong and the family dynamic feels so real. the kids did so fantastically, especially the deaf girl. she's actually deaf in real life and i think that adds a lot to the way she portrays the character. the sound design in this movie is the best i've ever seen, especially, like you said, with the change in perspective between characters. seeing this in the theatre on opening night was one of the best experiences i've had as far as film goes. you could genuinely hear a pin drop. someone next to me bought a large popcorn and didn't end up eating a single piece lol. great reaction!

Honestly, this was one of the very best cinema experiences I have ever had. It was so unreal in that everybody was so silent,...almost afraid to make any sound whatsoever. No talking, no popcorn munching or sweet wrapper rustling, no coughing,...absolutely intense! Amazing 👍

I was surprised that no one i knew reacted the same as you and I with this movie. I felt such a personal connection to it and John's acting/character. I didnt relate to any concept but the movie was so beautifully done and the acting was amazing that it created such an emotional impact for me

The part at the end when Blunt smirks a little when she racks the shotgun informs that this is the cathartic moment of the movie, even though it's like 2 seconds long. It leaves you with this hopeful feeling that maybe everything is gonna be ok. It's the same with Alien. she hit's that button to blast the alien out of the thruster and the movie ends with her giving a mission report like it's any other Tuesday.

4:04, nice attention to detail from this scene. The store has all its food gone except for packs of chips because of the amount of noise it creates. Love it when movies do these type of things.

I remember seeing this in theatres and being absolutely blown away! I also saw the sequel in theatres and loved it. There is nothing like experiencing these movies in theatres. Nothing. This is easily one of my fav movies of all time and I am obsessed with the sequel too. Brilliant!! Can't say enough good things about these!!

It's her fourth pregnancy, so a quick delivery makes sense. Often the first baby takes longer than all the subsequent ones to be born. By the fourth one the mother is just cranking them out. I wonder if that was part of Krazinski's and Blunt's discussions on set.

When I was in high school, I started to work for my new neighbor, cleaning out his cow and calf barns. They can hear the slightest noise from miles away, and they will hunt you viciously. Opening a box or can could be enough to get you killed. Look for a quiet, natural food source such as fish. I know, fish are noisy. But the sound of running water will mask a lot of the noises you make and provide you with a freshwater source. Fortunately, a cooking fire doesn't seem to get the aliens' attention. So you can cook your fish. But don't use oil or dishes, as they are very noisy. And unfortunately, greens are not an option. Think of all the noise you make growing a crop, storing them in the fridge, and even chewing them. So, it's fish tonight, my friend. Again. 4:25: The most important thing is your ability to communicate effectively with other survivors without speaking. Sign language is your best option. But this type of communication varies from country to country. Fortunately, there is an international sign language, and it is very similar to ASL (American Sign Language). But if you need to communicate with people at a distance, you can use a flashlight or a fire to share messages in Morse Code. It's a good idea to at least know how to say SOS. It's three quick flashes, three long flashes, and three short flashes again. Wait a few seconds, and repeat the signal until you get a response. (a few seconds later) Oh yes. This is great. There are other survivors in the area. 18:30: It doesn't matter how stealthy you have become. Eventually, you will make some noise, and the creatures will come after them. So prepare some loud and distant sound sources to distract them. You can use some fireworks that you can set off from your shelter. But you can also put out some sound devices that you can control remotely, like Bluetooth speakers. That's assuming that electricity is still available. But if it isn't, you can use some portable solar panels to keep those devices running. 27:02: You can't spend your whole life hiding, my friend. At some point, you will have to fight. Fortunately, their strength is also their greatest weakness. Those deep ears are so sensitive that audio feedback seems to put them in deep pain. Audio feedback occurs when you close the loop between an input, such as a microphone, and an output such as an amplifier. So, get an amp and a microphone. Or you can use a more fun option, like an electric guitar. Those little pickups are basically microphones that translate the notes you play on the strings into an electrical signal and transport them to the amp. So if you put those pickups in front of the amp, you'll blow those critters' heads off. If you share this secret, maybe all the surviving musicians will turn up the volume on their amps and wipe out these creepy aliens. That was terrifying. Anyway, you can finally listen to some music and relax. I hope that the tour guide was helpful, and be sure to survive these sons of b**ches. *There's a part two. P.S. Regan Abbott (the deaf girl, Millicent Simmonds) had to play the feedback to not only knock the alien out, but expose the armour, and as it got back up, Evelyn (Emily Blunt) could put it out of its misery with a Browning BPS shotgun.

When i was in theatre watching Quiet place 2.... People were giggling bcs of complete silence. and others were bursting out laughing during serious scene. (I guess my theatre was filled with jokers 😑🤡)

I’m not a big horror movie fan, so I didn’t think there would be a reaction I’d be looking forward to this month… I was wrong. I love this movie. Can’t wait for you to see the sequel as well.

I didn't find this movie to be "scary" as much as crazy tense and suspenseful. The 2nd was even less so (scary that is), and was more "actiony", which was actually quite nice.
