True, people over compensate as well. I love using my light jigging rod with baitcast reel with 15lbs braid and flouro, while I see too many people using a 30-40lbs lined in a heavy rod with conventional reel...
I’ve never had problems with the steel type ones I make my own with mono as well but when I’m feeling lazy I just go with the wire ones. But everyday you learn something new thanks for the tip.
Absolutely true! I got skunked yesterday morning off North shore Long Island Sound in freaking perfect conditions using that exact 1st rig with all the metal. Then I lost it in a rock, and tied my own using monofil and within a few mins I had a nice 16" blackfish. Caught a few small porgys and a bunch of sea robins after that. Good Advice brotha man! Love your boat as well as the guys out of City Island! Looking forward to Porgy season….the 26th can’t get here fast enough! Quick question: As far as reels; I’ve been looking at bait catcher Penn Squall ll Star Drag but I’ve noticed the spinning reel is the preferred reel on party/charter boats…any suggestions would be appreciated.
