You're one of the only other booktubers I've seen that has read Skulduggery Pleasant. It's one of my favorite series too!

Everyone was fantasizing about being with Edward or sitting in Hogwarts. I was sitting drawing pictures of the Sceptre of the Ancients and trying to summon fire.

God I remember after I read the first book I tried to summon a flame by clicking my fingers

The coolest at skulduggery pleasant is that derek landy created a hole world that goes more in detail than something like Harry potter

I've been reading Skulduggery Pleasant since I was nine and I've reread the first one probably more than 20 times at this stage. Every time I read these books I just feel like I'm meeting my friends, or slipping on a really comfortable, well worn hoodie. They're amazing

Honestly the first line of the first book is one of my favourite openings to a book. "Gordon Edgely's sudden death came as a shock to everyone, not least himself."

Anton is my favourite character mainly because last stand of dead men had that whole chapter dedicated to him being an absolute badass without even using his magic

I've been meaning to read these for a while now and seeing as I'm (pretty close) to the aimed age-range, I have a feeling that these are going to be really fun reads for me! They sound like exactly the thing that I'd enjoy, especially because it's a long series! Thanks for making this review, you've put these even higher up on my TBR now :)

I was hooked on this series in 6th, 7th, 8th and a bit of 9th grade too. It really shaped parts of my identity - I discovered alot about myself and gained a new perspective of the world from reading it: as a young adolescent, Valkyrie and Tanith really influenced my values and outlooks (leaving out the punching people thing lol). Even now, turning 18, it’s crazy to think that this series is still going and the community is still active. In any case, your video is a diamond in the rough, true gem 💕🔥 SP is brilliant! BTW - my uncultured 12yr old butt missed a lot of the humor back then lolol

I love Mr. Landy but my god his romance arcs suck, but his action scences damn. and my fav book of all time is Dying of The light as it a perfect conclusion to a trilogy of trilogies and neatly wraps up every plot thread and character ark. Resurrection was problematic. I hate Never with a burning passion. I dig Omen and Augur but i still would prefer more Val than them. *spoiler* The reflection deserved to die and i celebrated when it did #JusticeForCarol. The Darquesse Subplot in Phase 2 wasnt that great IMO and the main villian (like the golden eyed man was an ever present and concrete threat) of the series is a bit too abstract cos i wanna know who to despise. is it Creed? Melevolent?? Serpine??? China's whole I must pray thing was a bit weird and i think that needed a lot of explanation. Also it discusses PTSD and Genocide. How is it 11+

Got into the series when book 5 came out, and have been following it ever since, I can’t believe he’s still making them. It’s probably my favourite book series, I love the characters, the world, the humour, the action. But sadly I only have Maleficent Seven in hardback, even though I bought every book except for 9 (don’t know why I put that one off really) when they first released, they didn’t sell the hardback copies anywhere I shopped, and now I feel like I’d be way too late to get good used copies in good quality for the whole series.

Tbh I think Skullduggery Pleasant starts off Middle Grade but definitely after book 6 onwards it’s probably YA As someone who is Irish seeing a fantasy series set in Ireland meant so much to me when I first read it and even now it’s makes me so excited to know all the places there at its a great feeling lmfao

The first book was published in my last school year. I didn't know about them until some time later, only because the person I talked to always talked about Skulduggery Pleasant. Decided to find out what it is about. I didn't even like reading. Well, short story, I own all of the Skulduggery books now.

I can't believe there are so many!! I loved watching you try and pile them up haha.

Definitely my favourite series! Started reading when Death Bringer came out and have been obsessed ever since. Highly recommend

The thing is... are they technically childrens books? I read them in german, and thats not what I wouldve thought by default, cause if you compare them to something like harry potter (which is kind of close in a lot of ways), there is so. much. violence. graphic. violence. and just the topics that are tackled, like you said, are very heavy and dark. i would rate it more for teens maybe, cause the shit puberty puts you through mentally can make you go to some really dark places.

I honestly love the series and I'm on book 7. I'm not really enjoying the 7th book. but I still love the books VERY much!

I read the books in the first ark, books 1-9, but I never continued after that. Mb I'll look into continuing the next books now.

I have read the first 9 books and I was hooked from the very first chapter I absolutely love this series I am getting the rest of the series very soon I can not wait to see what my favourite partners in crime get up to next

I think I have a book by Derek Landy called Demon Road but I don't have any in this series! My younger sister read the first book and she really enjoyed it which means I know I am going to have to try it... fine, you've convinced me with this video :P I have added the first one to my never ending tbr list :3 Hopefully I'll love it too even though I find long series daunting these days ^.^ It sounds worth it!

Did anyone predict what saracens ability was before it came out? I don't want to spoil anything but me and my brother had countless arguments and I was so sure I was right, I even wrote a letter to Derek in 7th grade just to see if he'd confirm anything (never got a response back obv) and when it came out what he could actually do and I found out I was right... omg, I'm never gonna let my brother forget it!

i have been reading all the Skulduggery books for about 5 years now both my brothers stopped reading after Tanith in mortal coil but i have been reading them all and its one of the things on my mind 24/7 and i have always been thinking about the Cat tesseract left Skulduggery and i have just read dead or alive. 2021

I know I two years late lol but I've got up to book 9 and I've been told that's the end of phase 1 so would that be a good stopping point/ dose it work as an ending?

I just got back into the series, I'm not a big reader so I've been listening to audio books. This was really the only book series i read that wasn't the walking dead comics. I found the plots started getting confusing and i just couldn't keep track of it after 6 or 7 books

Derek made such a good series. I think as much as I wanted him to continue it , now having read the next how many books after dying of the light I can gladly say I wish he just kept it at dying of the light , he literally fucked the series after resurrection

Met Derek absolute legend read these books as a kid just remembered it and finished on maybe the 9th book and I feel sort of betrayed he started making them again I absolutely loved the ending even though I can’t remember many of the characters names I remember how greatly he described china’s beauty and how well the mystery around skullduggerys backstory kept you going from page to page

Unfortunately I read just the first book because I am from Romania and that book it's probably the single book who is in romanian language. It's verry hard for me to read a book in english because I am not a great english speaker.

I've read them and tbh I didn't like them. I LOVED them muahahaha they're my favourite series! Derek is the master of cliff hangers. It's kind of a funny story how I was introduced to them - when I was a kid I came second in a poetry competition in my local area but on the email inviting me to the prize giving ceremony the person hit the wrong number and thus gave me the wrong date and so I missed out on getting my prize handed to me by Derek Landy. The organisers called by my house to apologize though and they brought the prize which was a trophy and two books, one of which was the first Skulduggery Pleasant book and I read it and haven't looked back since. I did eventually meet Derek at a book signing and told him about it and he did an extra little doodle in my copy of mortal coil ❤️

I’ve read every one. Had to special order from the UK. Not as well known in the US I think. I’ve preordered the April 2021 release. It says it’s the penultimate book! So sad!

Oh my god, there's that much more Skulduggery Pleasant? The last one I read was Mortal Coil, I'm so far behind! It's exciting to see that Val ended up being bi, since I also did, so I'm really excited to catch up now.

I started book 1 in 2020, I've read 1-11 and maleficent 7, currently part way through book 12, I need to get a copy of book 13 and Armageddon outta here, ideally soon, I can usually finish one of these in a week to a week and a half (took so long to get this far because I had to wait a while until I could get a copy of maleficent 7, wanted to read it before Last Stand of Dead Men at a friend's recommendation) Question, what is your favourite title of any of the books? Skulduggery Pleasant is an absolute banger of a series that has equal parts awesome magic, badass characters, and hilarious wit. If you don't enjoy this series you're probably a psychopath. Yes it is aimed at a younger audience but to me it feels a little like many other series where as the series goes on it matures.

Keep looking on eBay for hardback copies of the two you have in paperback. I got all my copies of the first series in hardback off eBay. It’s a great series. I’ve read the first three.

My sister had the first 7 books and randomly stopped reading them, when she convinced me to read them I loved them and immediately went looking for 8 and 9 and got them as paperbacks. From books 10+ I have them all in the OG hardbacks and can't wait to read 14

Skulduggery pleasant was a favorite as a kid. I think I finished the faceless ones-trilogy and maybe even the deathbringer trilogy. Back then I read it translated to my language (since I was a kid and all) and the latest book wasn't translated, so I stopped reading this series. The years passed and I became a boring adult with less and less time reading fantasy. But then I started using Audible. Now I "read" while going for a walk, to the gym, and even when I work. This bookseries is amazing and re-listening to it fills me with so many memories from when I was a kid, and used to re-read the first book over and over.

I literally just finished the series the other day and...wow...the best series I've ever read, the books are amazing, the story, humour, action, twists, it's all amazing and it's also impressive for the fact that it's such a big series yet it NEVER gets old, every book is interesting, every book has a new different plot or villain while still sticking to the same plot from the previous books it's just so well written, Derek Landy is a very talented author! If you haven't read this series I highly recommend it!

I love the first two books and im just reading the third one buy its harder for me to keep up with the releases because i live in a different country and there are only 5 books of the series out in here because they are translating it from the newer wave(or something like that i think that just because the books have different pictures on them) and the books in here are a little bit shorter than the normal ones. So i hope that the 6th book comes out next year and i hope that 7th comes out a year after but i dont believe in that since the kingdom of the wicked has 600 pages( so around 500 pages in here) So yeaaah i cant really predict if the other one comes out next year because the company that translates it translates different books too. But i hope it does come out next year and that the rest of the series comes out always only one book in one year. Also the newer wave has only the first nine books.:/
