As a modder of HOI4 myself, i agree with Vayion's statement that most modders feel they have to take out 1/2 the new features to enable multiplayer games to proceed at pace. Playing this game Co-Op with my friends is alot of fun but its not fun when each of us need to pause the game every 2 minutes because we have 5 arms trade deals, 2 decisions, and 3 balance of power events we need to take care of every 5 or so minutes. The result of this gane reality is that my friends & I feel that this game has developed 2 different sub-communities within itself. We have the multilayer community with players like me and my friends who are trying to play a game in 4 hours or less, having fun with the Micro and enjoying the Macro level of running a WW2 country while playing on 4 speed until the war starts until dropping to 3 speed for combat. On the other side of the pendulum I have friends who only play single player and who become fully immersed in the nitty gritty details of political decisions and running their country at a micro level. My buddy who plays this way may only reach 3 speed at his fastest point. These singleplayer games can take place over many play sessions & consequently the constant popping of events & decisions isnt a hinderance to him but but an help. Nothing is wrong with either way of playing the game, it just that the 2 different playstyles desire 2 different sets of game features be added. I personally feel that since Arheo has taken over as game director the singleplayer feature set has taken the priority. I dont think this has been an intentional decision by Arheo and his team, rather that they features they felt were most interesting to add just happened to be ones more tailored to the singleplayer community rather than the multiplayer. Nothing is wrong with this fact, its just the way the wind has blown over the past 2 years. A possible solution i have pondered is adding a mechanic where you could choose different "Game Speed Rulesets." These would work similarily to how the Civiliation series of games has different game speeds like "Quick/Standard/Epic/Marathon." The difference is that in Hoi4 the speed setting would reflect the "levels" of features represented. A game on "quick" for example would ommit most features like espionage, designers, balance of power systems and the arms market, rather it would focus on the core game of building an economy, designing and fielding units and then fighting it out to win WW2. With this you loose some fidelity but you can play a game in 3 hours or less if you stayed on 4 speed. Compare this to If you chose a "Marathon" ruleset then all features would be present in your game, but this would require you (the player & company) to play at a slower game speed (and likely over the course of a couple days) to be able to interact with all the features. This "Game Speed Ruleset" system allows a dynamic scaling of immersion to suit the wants of the players. Singleplayer games can still be lengthy and in depth while Dankus can still get his ESports Multiplayer moments without needing a modder to rip out months of painstaking development by Paradox so that he (Dankus) isnt bombarded by the inner politics of his countrys government while trying to Micro his tanks. Its the same game, just played in 2 different ways with 2 different rulesets that results in 2 different but equally valuable experiences for both players. The main roadblock to a system like this i see is technical. Hoi4 can already have some nasty spaghetti code at times and this would almost certainly make things messier by having to tag different mechanics and game systems with tags that told them whether they should be running or not. Id love to hear other peoples thoughts on this stuff. HOI4 is probably my favorite game of all time but i sadly just havent played it much in the past year because i feel i have to take 8 hours out of my day and drink a monster so i can play the game without getting exhausted trying to micromanage every little detail of my country while simultaneously micromanage a frontline.

I really like the resources idea because Germany in real life had to use a lot of stockpiled rubber from the countries they conquered, with your idea when you conquer a country you'd also get their stockpiled resources like how you get that country's stockpiled equipment. Also convoy raiding would be way more deadly and bombing resource stockpiles would be absolutely lethal. It would make the game a lot more realistic.

what i'd love to see in vanilla hoi4 is a peace deal system,like the one in eu4 or vicky 2,it makes no sense that you need to capitulate another country completely even if your wargoal is a small state,there should be an actual war goal system. the other day i was playing as argentina and i wanted to conquer the falklands,but when i declared i had to go all the way to london and capitulate the uk just to get a few worthless islands. We definetly need to make refitting ships easier. It is currently a hassle to do and rather leads to people not doing it. Furthermore upgrading your ships designs mid production should also be applied during construction (as it was done in real life) . its tiring waiting for a ship and remembering to upgrade it again afters its build.

I think nukes need a massive rework and I've detailed my plan *_very extensively_* here. Please give it a read since I spent so much time writing it. You should have to build atomic bombs in the same way you build a railway gun, but instead of using mils you use reactors. You can design the A-Bomb like how you design a plane. A new resource, Uranium, will be added. Uranium will be found in high amounts in Canada, Kazakhstan, and Australia with smaller amounts found elsewhere. Uranium can be created using reactors just like how rubber can be created using refineries. ***** *Explosive types: Dirty, Atomic, Hydrogen.* Dirty Bomb: Does not do much to buildings but makes the tile extremely damaging to pass through for a short time with weather effect 'contaminated'. Does not kill portion of the state. Useful for making impassible zones a la MacArthur in Korea. Atomic Bomb: Damages many buildings, destroys victory points of tile and makes it impassible for a longer period with weather effect 'nuclear fallout'. VPs restored after effect clears. Destroys divisions, railway guns, planes, and fleets it's dropped on. Kills much of the population of a state. Hydrogen Bomb: Obliterates most buildings, destroys VPs and makes all tiles within small radius impassible for a long time, all tiles within medium radius get effect 'contaminated'. Kills vast majority of population in a state. *Delivery: Bomb, ICBM, SLBM, Torpedo* Bomb: Must be dropped by a strategic bomber over an area with air superiority. Can also be dropped on a fleet as part of a Naval Strike mission. ICBM: Can be launched from land. Takes longer to launch, but many more missiles can be stored in silos. SLBM: Can be launched from ballistic missile submarines. More expensive to produce and cannot carry nearly as many on submarine as can be based in ICBM silos. Torpedo: Can be used as regular torpedoes but only if allowed by the fleet. (Imagine a nuclear torpedo icon next to _automatic split off_ and _automatic reinforcement_ .) Only with it enabled will a fleet use nuclear torpedoes in combat. It can also be dropped on a fleet as part of a Naval Strike mission. *Blast type: Ground Burst, Air Burst* Ground Burst: Nuclear Fallout effect lasts longer, does slightly decreased damage to buildings. Air Burst: Nuclear Fallout does not last as long, does increased damage to buildings. *Various additions can be added to the missiles much like how you can add secondary features to tanks. Let me know if you can think of any* ***** Targeting tiles with Nuclear Air Strikes, ICBM's, or SLBM's will work like paradrop orders. However, it will take time to fire. If an enemy can destroy your silos or subs before launch, all missiles will be destroyed. You can decrease the amount of time it will take for a missile wing, ballistic sub, or bomber wing to launch by spending command power like _more ground crews_ or perhaps with doctrines or advisors. This way, you can plan your nuclear strikes ahead of time and launch when needed. For example, you can start with a wave of SLBM attacks from just off their coast to cripple their ICBM silos and Air Bases to limit potential counter-attack, then follow up with atomic tipped naval patrols to hunt down their ballistic subs, then follow up with a wave of atomic bombs on major industrial centers and a wave of H-bombs on major cities, ports, and strategic areas. ***** Ballistic Subs and Recon Aircraft and Destroyers with sonar will be in an arms race. Better stealth technology will make Ballistic Subs invisible to inferior recon until they surface to fire their SLBM's. This puts great impetus on the player to keep their subs up to date if they want to have an effective SLBM force. *** I think all of this would make the post war game *_much_* more interesting. They could call the expansion pack "Unthinkable". I also think they should add more to the arctic. Like the arctic coasts of Russia, Canada, and Alaska.

My wishlist, similar in spirit to things you care about: - I think that shell and ammunition production should be made explicitly, and shell consumption would affect logistical requirements. Replace the idea of 'Superior Firepower' with actual choices made about shell consumption. Superior firepower is now about how much ammunition you expend and not simply how many arty tubes, SPGs, and tungsten your nation has. - Train manpower and NOT divisions. In the army panel you can train divisions of infantry, artillery, tanks, and airmen. Each type has a pool of a certain number of troops of a certain quality. Troops of X quality are like equipment, they are fungible for divisions. Mobilization speed is the speed at which already trained manpower and equipment can be turned into combat effective divisions. Unless you mobilize your army divisions are limited to actual regulars. This means divisions and airwings can be deleted/reorganized without having to be retrained from scratch.
@taylorphillips7030
@taylorphillips7030 5 месяцев назад
I really like your ideas about reworking training. I always find division training time to be painfully and confusingly long. It definitely makes more sense for mobilization to take longer in exchange for shorter training times. A pool of trained manpower that you can prepare ahead of time to use to create divisions would be nice.

I didn't even know you could see your fleet stats before a fight which confirms the need for a re-re work of naval lol I also like your idea for the spy and resources revamp though with the caveat that the storage could be a one building for all resources rather then doing a separate storage type for each resource.

I generally agree with your thoughts on the direction of HOI4, particularly about Navy and Intelligence. Those are mechanics that are so opaque and micro intensive that a lot of people just ignore them, and the AI is so incompetent that it's pretty easy to roll over it without using most of the tools at your disposal. One thought I wanted to add was about the BBA mechanic for awarding metals to divisions. As it stands, it take both a bunch of clicks and some precious PP to award medals to divisions, so I basically just don't do it. I think it would be better if medals were awarded automatically, with the medal type and bonus dependent on what the unit accomplished. For example, a unit that takes a major city could get a medal giving an urban combat bonus. This would take the annoying micro out of the mechanic while still allowing individual divisions to develop and improve with their accomplishments.

I really like all of these ideas tbh collage. Banger takes. Another thing id add about naval is that ships should take way less time to produce. Even if it feels gamey or god forbid unrealistic it should be possible to build a fleet that actually has mid or even early game impact.

The amount of time it takes to build a supply hub is my second least favorite thing in the game after navy. It's that bad. Having low supply makes the game unfun, and I feel like there is a better way to handle low supply situations, but I can't think of something better.
@tanker00v25
@tanker00v25 4 месяца назад
@@taylorphillips7030 I'll trow out an idea. Expand the “logistics wizard" trait into a small system for your field marshalls, the trait itself doesn't need to change, but all field marshalls will have a few decisions allowing you to deal with supply shortages at the expense of command power. Since you won't be dealing with low supply too much you won't have to do a lot more microing, but when in low supply areas you will be able to quickly and easily offset the debuffs while waiting for a supply hub to finish construction or taking one from the enemy

The resources idea I like as Japan notoriously had difficulty extracting resources from its occupied overseas territories. Seems to be an overreach though for sunk convoys to display what they were carrying as historically there was no was submariners knew what the convoy they destroyed was carrying. I also like the equipment request on the arms market and reworking the navy so it more akin to the Stellaris naval system.

Personally I would like if they would reduce the bloat of research, for instance the god awful Naval Research tree, it is way too much research to even want to bother getting into it, I question why I must take the time to individually research guns, hulls, torpedoes, mines (which are basically useless as well) and the other like 4 or 5 extra techs, and while I know that you really don't need to research most of these techs I would prefer if they simplified it and made it similar to Tanks instead, guns are upgraded with artillery torpedoes' with something else (they could be left as something to individually research idk) and in general every tech that doesn't fit with a specific already existing tech could be put in with the hull research. As far as everything else you mentioned in the video I feel just the overall gameplay could be enhanced with a few things involving the AI and how they do certain diplomatic things, for example AI with war goals is one of the weirdest things ever as it feels really random whether they will actually use a war goal or not I have had the AI declare on me despite me having a far superior army but then I've had them not when I have like 3 divisions (that is an exaggeration but you get the point) in general a bit more consistency on the AI with different diplomatic systems would be great.

I would like to see some sort of limit to how much trade can be sent over land. It's honestly ridiculous that you can send infinite trade across two continents as long as you aren't personally at war with any of the countries that make up the land trade. The fact that you're completely free to recieve thousands of tonnes of rubber, steel, and liquid fuel through dozens of neutral countries with no consideration for the infrastructure required, the relationship between the trading nations and the neutral ones, whether or not there is active war along the route, or any consideration towards how fucking expensive and logistically imposible it would be to bring an entire country's supply of war resources via land. I've blockaded enemy nations in this game before and had them pulling 100s of oil, alluminum, and rubber from two continents away - crossing two active front lines and a dozen different nations - some of which were completely unfriendly with the buying nation. It seems like the only reason land trade works the way it does in HOI4 is because they were so focused on the historical German blockade situation when they first made the game. Since India and the USSR would end up at war with Germany there was no way for the Germans to trade with the East so they didn't feel the need to add any nuance to the land trade system - as long as Germany was cut off from trading with the East they didn't really care if it didn't make sense that land trades require literally no resources. Nowadays, with the amount of mods and non-historical DLC, it has become immensely clear that the overland trade system in HOI4 is ridiculously unrealistic. It's just insane that it requires no investment of rail, trucks, or fuel to get resources via land. I mean, the fact that South American nations can trade with the USA over land says it all - are they hauling the oil tanks on their back through the darien gap or...?

Oh man I was thinking about this the other day; my wishlists was: - Energy and food treated like fuel is now (Raw resource -> Passive trasformation -> Derived resource): more building would require more energy and more population would require more food; failing in providing the first would cripple your industry and failing to provide the second would cripple your population, your stability and your war support - A pool of "Professional manpower" representing all the officers, pilots and specialists needed by an army; every battalion, ship and plane would require a certain amount of this manpower to function properly. You would receive this special manpower yearly, depending on how mobilized your country is and in cases of emegercency you could promote from the ranks with CP or XP. Maybe add a new national law that determines your country capacity to generate the special manpower, exchanging quality for quantity (alias buffs and debuffs) for your armed forces - A military factory upkeep similar to how like civilian factories work now: for every X number of divisions you lose a military factory (let's say that it used to produce ammunition). Again maybe add another national law that represents how well equipped your army theoretically is, ranging from a well equipped and armed military force to a rag tag militia that requires very little in terms of military factories to function; of course the first will have more powerful buffs and the second will suffer severe debuffs, but it could be better in cases of desperation - A national stockpile: if you have a surplus of a resource, that resource gets put in the pile to be used for more dire times - War support and stability values that actually do something: if the first reaches zero you lose the war and the enemy gets a to annex their claims and wargoals; if the second reaches zero something bad happens (eg, one of your ministers gets murdered, you suffer crippling strikes or you get massive debuffs along the board, etc. etc.); if both go low enough you get a revolution and possibly get "Red-Octobered" by your army - An intelligence rework: the idea of the agency is great, just make it require less of my attention and micromanaging. I don't want to have check my spy tab every five minutes to see if the operation went well or went to shit, it's frustrating and wastes my time (half of those operations aren't even really worth the time or the resources, the only one I find myself consistently doing is the collaboration government) - A weapons market and industrial rework by doing away with generic manufacturers; countries would only be able to research and build stuff they have an actual industrial complex for, forcing thus smaller countries to actually have to buy that equipment on the market if they want to have an army; the license production would be a stop gap measure untill you can get your own stuff figured out. Maybe add a mechanic that allows a country to contract the industrial complex belonging to another country in exchange for PP. - A navy rework (I don't have any ideas, I'm too dumb to understand how it works now or how to rework it) Last but not least an AI that actually undestands these systems and doesn't just get bonuses (or bonii)
@lockretvids
@lockretvids 5 месяцев назад
This is going to be rather vague, but I don't really have good ideas about the execution, so here goes: They should make it so that it's more efficient to have a few fleets of cruisers/destroyers/subs on patrol to spot enemy fleets and have the capital ships be on standby if the enemy is indeed spotted. If my understanding is correct, the way it works now is to doomstack your battle fleet, put them on strike force and convoy raid with your subs while have some planes that do the spotting.

resource overhaul: I think it'd make the game too complex if it were to become a core mechanic. One of HoI IV's strong points is that - when compared to other PDX titles - it's relatively more accessible to newer players and doesn't have as steep a learning curve. It could work (a) as some kind of toggle option for more experienced players or (b) a setting with an automanage option. We should always watch out that the game doesn't become HoI III or BlackICE (those 2 are love-it-or-hate-it titles). After all, once you're in a big war you'll often want to just focus on unit micro instead of having to click a million buttons. Equipment: While it's certainly enticing to make equipment production more like historical(ish) mods like TW and BICE, we shouldn't forget that this could cripple minor nations or nations that didn't produce a wide variety of equipment. You could give minor unique techs (kind of like unique traits for military manufacturers) or give specific countries small buffs to a piece of equipment but we shouldn't make the game restricting. A considerable part of the HOI4's fun comes from the potential for alt-history. We shouldn't weaken that by leaning too much towards historical accuracy. Tl;dr: You should have multiple safeguards and mechanics to make sure other nations (both major and minor) don't become wholly irrelevant. It'll be a very delicate balancing act between (1) accessibility vs in-depth mechanics, (2) micro-intensive vs 'laid-back', (3) competitive vs casual, and (4) historical accuracy vs game balance

I like a lot of what you've put forward, I'd particularly love the soft army cap to deal with how absurdly the AI in single player can balloon in the late game, making a lot of focus trees and achievements just absolutely mind melting to complete. The resources change I'm of two minds about, on the one hand the current system is quite bland and uninteresting and I'd like to see it shaken up a bit, on the other I could definitely see microing the resource stockpile becoming kinda tedious and maybe unfun depending on how its handled. Spies definitely need some love, the number of times I've just forgotten to build an agency until I need a collab government is a lot higher than I care to think about. Your very hands off system for them is definitely a good idea but personally I'd like to go the other way, make the system in depth enough that I actually want to engage with it and not just come back every 45 minutes to get that one mission anyone cares about and find out everyones in jail. I would add something similar to the way crime syndicates are handled in Stellaris where you can pour funds into setting up facilities in the enemy, give me something to actually manage and care about. And what I REALLY would love to see in some effect is some real ways where governments in exile can actually interact with their homelands. Even if its lumped in with the espionage like it is now I just want more to do with it than clicking the decisions or doing the raise resistance mission that more or less doesn't actually do anything. I'd even take just more missions, like directly targeted sabotage, extracting informants, targeting officers, just something to do with the mechanic that right now is really quite bland.

always wished for a good logistics system cause nsb just doesn't do the job right. every country has the exact same logistical capabilities since supply is only allowed to travel along railroads and then spreads out from hubs, so you have nonsensical supply deadzones between major towns that force you to leapflog from city to city instead of allowing you to create a strong supply network to let you push steadily (how often have you blitzed france as germany and had to wait a week for the rail workers to realise france has tracks too). where are the supply chains? america could show off its industry during d-day by supplying its troops in france with a truck convoy (the red ball express), and securing specific ports in brittany and antwerp was a priority because the volume of supply those ports could transfer actually mattered. consider a theoretical scenario where america invades the russian far east. in hoi4, 30 divisions sitting in vladivostok will be out of supply but if they fan out to the nearby villages they will be supplied despite the port staying the same. somehow. and what's sad is that victoria 3 actually simulates a better naval supply system with its convoy capacity.

Some things u brought up are definitely worth taking out of the freezer like the improvements to the market (the way you described it is like 100x more realistic too, countries contact other country's companies to produce stuff for them), but the parts about making vanilla black ice, or TFB, like nuh uh, go play black ice if you yearn for that but dont force us to deal with it, or the admiral naval limit. Showing the stats of ur fleet pre-battle is goog tho, soo add that to the list of stuff we really should have pdx cook up Also i never get the people who say they dont understand navy, thing is, it isnt that hard, the documentation for it is hard to find tho, also in the recent patches it is impossible to understand cuz pdx keeps changing it every 5 seconds! like i swear next patch it'll go like this: uh since carrier too stronk we remove carrier nav 5x buff, furthermore if you have more armor on your ships than your enemy then you uh guarnateed crit them (proposed by seemops) and yk why not fiddle with the hit profiles a bit more aswell, lets fat finger that and have dds be 100x bigger and always get hit by everything and lets make uhmmmmm yes! battlecruisers impossible to hit due to another fat finger and a rounding error sounds fine to me. *insert picture of agility focused air deisgner on AAT launch*

Basically you just want to build one large combined fleet and then use submarines. Destroyers mainly exist to shield other ships from damage or to hunt submarines. Cruisers are better destroyers in battles but aren't good at sub hunting. Heavy Cruisers are better cruisers. Battleships are great when the opponent's fleet can't pierce them but are better than cruisers if the opponent can. Carriers are overpowered but get diminishing returns if you bring too many. Fleets against players is mostly a matter of moving it around manually and occasionally using strike force. Fleets against the ai should mainly be used for supremacy and protecting naval invasions. Because of a recent dlc you don't really want to sink ai Fleets because stealing them is wayyy more efficient. Specifically with Japan, you can have range problems with early ships. Hence the need to island hop. This can largely be dealt with by not really old ships in your main fleet.

I really don’t like the idea of arbitrary division caps. EU4 has one and I find it to be the most annoying mechanic. You should be able to field as many divisions as your industry and manpower allow. I really feel like paradox ditched actual development of the game and just started pumping out DLC's to finish it off quicker. A lot of features they add are rather unimportant additions that just bloat the game - the spy system being an example, if they wouldn't implement it in just for the sake of saying they've added more content it would've been done better. The last really good addition was the logistics system. The AI is still at a level where it can barely use anything added to the game and I'd really rather see things like improved AI, industry rebalance since minor nations are way too powerful as of now, navy rework (although I still like playing around with the navy) and a political rework to add just a little more flavour to the game.

Places should have partisans of some form. Yugoslavia, poland, ussr, baltics. Physical divisions that move on the map and cause damage. They can disappear after a certain amount of time. Germany france and ussr should use more armoured cars. Heavy tanks should be made more often by the AI, especially USSR and Germany. Assault gun tanks and SPAA should be addable to the side of a division in support, like super heavy tanks. There should be back and forth. So often I see either germany win early and win hard or fall flat and get their ass ate by soviets. There should be a way for the AI to limit itself so it doesn't just walk over the other AI. Austria should have a focus tree. Yugoslavia should have a monarchist vs tito struggle like in our timeline instead of just a mutually exclusive focus path. Smaller protracted wars, similar to border conflicts should be available for more countries. Giving a way for example for china to gain france treaty port without capitulating the UK France and the USA. There should be governments of occupation. Like how Japan set up 40 trillion different governments in occupied china, korea. Same can be said for germany making 90 billion puppet regimes, similer to reichkommisarats, but in places like russia. These states should be releaseable during the war, but should struggle with legitimacy and occupation should be resisted, like the italian puppet state in Ethiopia.

The simple answer for you at the end is, "You are cooking". For me, Hearts of Iron 4 has fallen flat (for me) after all the DLCs and expansions over the years since 2016, and many of the good features are in Hearts of Iron 3. Every time I look at Hearts of Iron 4, I look at it as a framework to just re-sell functions in Hearts of Iron 3 into the 4th game for extra money, especially selling only one feature part of it. So looking at the cost to just buy one tiny feature is just outrageous in my opinion. The only reason I am playing Hearts of Iron 4 at times over Hearts of Iron 3 is the ease of use of hosting multiplayer through Steam compared to the old way in Hearts of Iron 3. But to say it in short. There are way too many features and additions in Hearts of Iron 3 that are yet to be implemented in Hearts of Iron 4, and I just wish that it could just be done by adding all of it once and for all and calling it a day. Also... The dreaded interface in Hearts of Iron 4. I just want a simple UI like Hearts of Iron 3 where you can focus on what is on the screen. Finally. The supply system in Hearts of Iron 3 (although buggy at times) was better and performance-friendly compared to Hearts of Iron 4. How can Hearts of Iron 4 run slower (coding) compared to Hearts of Iron 3's coding? Like, I remember the Dev-Log for Logistics and Infrastructure rework in the coding, but it seems they have just given up since then. To put it bluntly, Hearts of Iron 4 has turned into "you have 3 to 4 years on you to finish the war before the game slows down". I am starting to think that it will be forever until we get a performance update similar to Stellaris at this rate.
@bob1268205

You could say this in a short and final statement: Merging both Hearts of Iron 3 and 4 would be the perfect game with all the good mechanics and good design choices in UI, sound, information, and so forth. Why can't it just be like this? 😮‍💨

I think the Ai should be limited in the divisions it can create, but doing so to the player is NG. The way factions work needs to be redone. Especially stuff like the chinese United front. Greece or Yugoslavia shouldn't be able to join the Chinese United front. that's a bit silly. Ai shouldn't try to randomly go to war. Especially after ww2, and it's like 1945. The ussr shouldn't just start manually justifying on West germany or some shit. Ive had this happen more times than I can count. Each nation that got a focus tree before BBA should have a rework of some sort. Germany should get a better democratic and neutral path, a communist path, and an expanded real-life path, with alternative options like what italy got. Japan and China should be expanded. Japan should have an expanded expansionist path, either going northern expansion or southern strike. The neutrality path should have a greater emphasis on power to the Emperor via showa restoration or army/navy controlled dictatorship in the a new shogunate. China, Germany, France, Japan, USA, and Russia should have a balance of power like what italy has (but good). There should be effort on colonial and post colonial states. Like small focus trees and flavor, like what was done for the baltics. States like the Philippines, Indonesia/ DEI, Malaysia/sarawak, Burma, India, and Pakistan. Along with this, nations like Egypt should start as a british puppet, France should have states like Syria and Lebanon pop out in like 1943 1944 like in our timeline. Vietnam should attempt to break free at some point. There should be some smaller states and countries should try to set ip puppet states. Like in our time the polish government went into exile and the soviets set up a puppet when they took poland

If the germans go historical and everyone else goes alt the Germans absolutely steamroll. More alternative nonsense that's already stupid like a communist Germany coming from nazi Germany where thr communists have all been purged or fled is just a waste of effort when the game has actual problems that need fixing like the ai not understanding supply or sailing millions of men through a submarine blockade.

hey coolleg, nice video but I shall toss my hat into the ring and see what ya think. You do be cooking but i think you need to get off of the stovetop for a few and do something else. big personal disagree on unique equipment, Sticking to the games design philosophy, paradox's abilities and also whether or not it would fit i think it is wrong on all 3. The game as you stated is babies first GS game, and is overall much more easy to play and casual which is why it has the rep as a brain-off game. (Of course this is not likely a good thing but the only way to fix it would be to change the game as a whole) The game is meant to have all players get creative with their nations and how they make things, while keeping it easy. The tank designer is a pretty good example of this, you can swap on all these different parts and different bits to go ahead and make your own schizo tank fresh out of the hellscaped mind of a hoi4 player with ease. You dont even need to understand the game to make a pretty good tank, it is very well articulated to you. Now how do you go ahead and explain to a player they are getting bodied by a tank from 1939 with their super modern tank that is made pretty okay, because the tank is German? how will you go ahead and explain to a new naval player that despite all the guides they watched all they did they get stomped by the RN because its British? What about explaining how your whole industrial base is gone because its an American strat bomber? Its already annoying enough for the minor (nation) enjoyers out there, locking even more shit behind being a being major power as they wont do a lot or very good ones for all or even some of the minors, it would be very annoying and likely slow the game to a crawl as the nations would be producing them and whatever else comes out of their cracked out minds. It just wouldnt fit in the game now, maybe at like DOD but thats all i can think of We know you know paradox doesnt know how to balance, this will only end poorly and as with everything paradox does, it would extend out of just army to navy and air eventually if not off the bat, Paradox doesnt know what the word balanced even means. Off handed example but they accidently fucked stellaris with their leader update almost a full year ago and are still picking up the peices, their has been 4 balance patches in the last 2 weeks alone. This would end terribly. The resource stockpile im iffy on, I would like it but I dont like the way you suggested it. it kinda fucks over minors again making it even worse for them not to mention I would know this would be fucked up and buggy, not to mention this type of thing would end up likely being a new thing to micro and get rather tedious and people would be begging for it to be automated, as it would likely then result in many additional changes to the economy system or then you can do what you do with fuel, send 90 billion factors to fill up your stockpile in 3 seconds and your done. Not to mention the delivery system mentioned hast to do with air and naval raiding of it an how deliveries already work which is to say they dont. Why do I need to have Vladivostok open so I can get steel from France? Why do I need the Panama and Suez to get my rubber to japan from India? or in your case, why do I need Birmingham to get fuel for my tanks? Point is it will break, it would be buggy, and it would probably never be fixed and cause thousands of problems they way suggested but I cant think of another. Navally you are based, your opinion for the markets is masterful, I mostly agree with you on economy ballooning (bonus points if you also hate the tech drought) lastly while I agree with you on spies needing a rework they you suggested going about is kinda iffy, I think the way they have it base is pretty good, I can even think of many ways to include your resource management game as well, but the base systems I think are fine and there is no need for a spy master thing at all imo, more missions, half the time, costs and take a quarter of the rewards away from what they are now and I could see them becoming much better and encourage people to do counter-intel as more missions go off so you can actually do something with your spies that isnt 1 thing every 1/3rd of a year. over all you are very correct however you have some holes in your logic at points that have good ideas in them but would need to be added more functionally better into the game as is.
@guyfromcollege

I understand your points about the unique equipment. But I don't think resources how I'd want it would create more micro, it'd cause less because if you have a temporary spike or drop in needed resources you don't have to immediately change your trade because extra resources will be taken or added to your stockpile.

I think this is a classic example of streamer game wants versus average player wants. Let me be clear that this is not an attack against College or other streamers, just stating a fact: Streamers want their games to be more complicated so that it’s more entertaining to their viewers. Hence why you cannot watch an average Bokoen HOI4 stream with it being unmodded. As a viewer I love seeing streamers tackle a complicated challenge and overcome it. However, as a player I absolutely hate complexity. I haven’t bought a HOI4 DLC since Battle for the Bosporus because it was the last DLC that added focus trees without changing the entire game. I don’t want to sit around and design tanks and planes for hours only for RNJesus to decide that a country won’t get annexed or India is now a major, so you have to sail over there a cap them too. I think HOI has crossed the line for me into being to much of a grind. I wish I could do fun stuff like playing as white Russia or world conquest as Sweden, but I can’t access any of that content without the other micromanaging slop it comes with. And no, the historical presets are not a way to mitigate this because the historical presets are all garbage. If I don’t want to get clapped by the AI 10 hours into my game then I have to spend hours more finely tweaking my tanks to get their soft attack and reliability correct. As a player of the game I just want more content. I don’t want to have to relearn the game I purchased every 8 months. Just give me more fun focus trees without making the game complex or at the very least let me turn all that stuff off without losing access to the focus trees. Older DLCs added new features like spies, oil, etc. but those are new things. Changing already existing mechanics and making them insufferably complicated is not fun. If I wanted to experience the real grind of WW2 I’d download Black Ice, but I don’t so I’d rather not have my simplified mechanics changed and my focus trees held hostage by them.
