Talking Heads (all 4 members reunited) held a Stop Making Sense screening + Q&A in New York on September 13th, 2023.
This was 2 days after the Toronto Film Festival (TIFF) premiere of A24's remastered version of Stop Making Sense, which was also the first reunion of the band in over 20 years and included a Q&A moderated by Spike Lee. This one was moderated by NBC journalist John Heilemann and happened at BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) with all 4 members of the band answering questions about the film: David Byrne, Jerry Harrison, Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth.
Unfortunately this is not a full video recording (it would be amazing if one exists, but it's unknown if it does), and includes a short video of the intro then just audio for the rest of the Q&A. But it captures the talk quite well, and I made a bunch of small edits to make the volume more consistent in places where it was too quiet or loud.
I also wrote timestamps summarizing the questions & including the initials of band members who answer [d/j/c/t]. Check the comments for a list where I summarize the answers too.

36:50 what goals and objectives did you hope to get out of this? at the time, and what do you feel like you've done now? [t & j]
39:15 when making this, were you doing it for us, yourself, both, or neither? [d]
40:30 when you see yourself here, what do you think of that guy from 40 years ago? [d]
41:20 when are we getting a Tom Tom Club reunion? [c]
41:35 most people would love to see talking heads play live together again, could putting this out and seeing people's reaction potentially open the door for more live stuff? [c]
43:30 [partial host outro, cuts out at very end]
Recorded Wednesday 13th September 2023 during a screening held at BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) in New York City.
Special thanks to John for interviewing the band, Saidah for providing the video at the start, Dick for providing the photos, Morgan for providing the audio, and to Talking Heads & crew for making this event happen! I hope people enjoy this video I've put together, and I hope people find my question summarizations useful! Remember to check the comments for my summaries of their answers too!

great intervview wow, im also surprised how well they handled some of the 'touchier' subjects. idk if its just pr talk but I'm at least a little comforted that they're no longer beefing and that tina and chris found some peace with the past

Wow, was not expecting to hear Tina call David a “riveting frontman”. Would give anything to have seen his face at that moment lmao

Timestamps with my summaries of questions & answers (all paraphrased, check for exact quotes) 00:00 [band introductions WITH VIDEO] 01:50 [moderator introduction] 04:20 how did the tour come together? [d: lineup built up from previous tour and from first song onwards, bringing out equipment gradually] 05:55 how did the extended band come together? [j: started with needing more musicians to play Remain In Light songs live] 08:00 do you remember the first time any of the band decided to make it a movie? [c: we decided to document it but didn't expect to work with as good of a director as Jonathan Demme who encouraged and understood band] 10:05 tell us about conversing with Jonathan (what the movie should/shouldn't be) [t: we wanted no interviews, no splitscreens, let the viewer be a member of the audience, he brought in a great team] 11:55 what did you think Jonathan would bring differently to the music videos? [d: feature film director could see more of a story] 13:30 do you think he showed a world/family that you couldn't see yourself at first? [d: I was too much inside the show until seeing editing, ensemble film] 14:13 what was the experience with Jonathan's personality? [c: we could trust him, he was friendly and he was good at delegating tasks to skilled people] 16:55 do you see this as more of a concert movie, performance art, acting, a conceptual piece, or just "hey, we're a band and we're playing our songs"? [t: of course we're a band, and we had a riveting frontman, we see it as pop art more than fine art, but I think Jonathan raised it to that level] 18:10 Jerry, how do you categorize this piece of film? [j, difficult answer to summarize] 20:00 what's the story that's being told? [d: you see this intense awkward guy in the beginning, he's trying to figure things out in this world", little by little he starts to feel himself in a community and have some fun] 21:35 Jerry, tell us about making the new version of the film [j: took a while to find the negatives in MGM library, wanted to keep style of original production] 23:45 what did you think when seeing the IMAX version? [c: "god damn", there's an intensity that snowballs, it's a lot of fun, my wife looks so great] 24:45 does it feel like long-time-ago nostalgia or like it just happened yesterday? [t, "nowstalgia", still feels fresh] 25:45 [John talking about how timeless the movie feels] 27:05 how did you make it feel timeless? was that on your mind at all? [d: not at all, used lighting different to other rock concert films at the time] 28:45 Jerry, any idea where the timelessness comes from? [j: most of the lighting effects could have been done in the 30s/40s, techniques not of the time period, imagery had little reference points] 29:35 (talking about outfits) how did the blue polo shirt happen? [t: "it had to do with laundry, it's really hard to get your clothes cleans on tour". c: "what was I thinking?"] 30:40 talk about joy felt about the tour at the time and now while watching it [c: it was an elevating, religious experience, it was a musical fever seeing bandmates' faces] 32:50 did you all feel that way? [j: "we were having a great time on stage, it was impossible for the audience not to join us"] 33:25 are these songs personal to you? [d: "I've never thought of myself as a psycho killer", with Once in a Lifetime we've all had that kind of experiencing of wondering how did I end up here? We have a song for you] 34:25 Jerry, you said you were one of the best live bands in the world at the time, but you never toured again. Do you have regrets about not taking it to the next level? [j: I like playing live, disappointed we weren't part of Live Aid, there would have been elements of wondering how to top this] 36:15 were you making this for yourself or for us? [t: definitely for the fans] 36:50 what goals and objectives did you hope to get out of this? at the time, and what do you feel like you've done now? [t: I shared jerry's regret of not touring again, that's in the past, we're not dead, we've lost some people, memories of those we lost. j: upside is that we've done lots of other projects, I'm proud of the things we did do] 39:15 when making this, were you doing it for us, yourself, both, or neither? [d: it's hard to imagine/remember, I recall it seeming like a natural progression, chance it wouldn't be well received] 40:30 when you see yourself here, what do you think of that guy from 40 years ago? [d: that guy and whole band were incredibly tight and creative, still surprised by some choices I made] 41:20 when are we getting a Tom Tom Club reunion? [c: "oh it's coming"] 41:35 most people would love to see talking heads play live together again, could putting this out and seeing people's reaction potentially open the door for more live stuff? [c: personally I'm just grateful to be here with my bandmates & audience] 43:30 [partial host outro, cuts out at very end] Please correct me if any of these summaries get stuff particularly wrong/different from what they said, or if timestamps are wrong!

You wait over 20 years for a Talking Heads reunion, then 2 happen in the same week lol.. I smell a possible Live Nation deal of some sort!!

If they have made such a deal, it would be an international tour of some sort, those type of deals are lucrative but the acts have to put in the miles in return. These pubic appearances could be an aspect of it, here's hoping!!@@danjones3176

The Toronto Q&A was shown live in the early IMAX screenings on the 11th (and some other countries on the 12th as a pre-recorded thing), but that was just for the first Q&A and there were no other plans announced to broadcast the Q&As unfortunately

Is it still in the contract that Tina & Chris can't be seated next to David?

as far as we know the only official recording was at Toronto but that hasn't been made available online yet. unfortunately none of the others seem to have been officially recorded, but who knows, maybe we'll get lucky eventually and they'll release more
