@@kindoflinc I'll bet no one ever accused you of being anal retentive. I suppose if someone commented "The Talking Heads Band" it would send you into cardiac arrest. WTF?
I was just thinking the same thing when I read your comment. Agreed and agreed. Clear as a bell and clean as a whistle. Compared to most other TH bootlegs from that era, this sounds way too amazing to have been recorded outdoors.
Who said Chris Frantz isn't a top drummer? Have you listened to how precise, clean and punchy he plays? And how excellent and articulate are the fills? Yes, he is another brilliant example of a drummer who serves the song (just like Ringo, so to speak...).
The only people who say drummers like Frantz and Ringo aren't great are idiots who think a lot of fast notes is a prerequisite to virtuosity... usually people with zero musical background or very young and inexperienced players. It isn't that you can't be great playing fast and busy (see Tony Williams, Keith Carlock, Buddy Rich, Mark Guiliana, Dave Girabaldi to name some of my personal favorites), but that you don't NEED to. There are many types of great drumming.
So you are saying that Ringo is a good drummer because Chris is not highly regarded? This has nothing to do with Ringo. Chris is great. Ever listen to the Tom Tom Club? People just can't accept that their Beatles GOD doesn't have a good drummer. Well they do actually. Paul. You probably hear more Paul drumming than Ringo on their recordings.
@@princeofcupspoc9073 Ahh, not only did Paul die, but now we find out he's the ghost drummer of the Beatles! Nonsense: Ringo's drumming skills are clearly evident live, anyone can see it. So I don't understand why some people still consider Ringo a mediocre musician, he is a drummer in service of the song (just like Chris Frantz).🤣🤣🤣
@Craig Cardone I'd love to argue but a pretty strong history of selfishness and being a dickhead. Who knows all the real stories and how much his condition is responsible for.
Spot On! great to see & hear the band so young & pure, brings back flashes of the '78 - '81 nyc, long island and jersey shows I was so lucky to attend. Thanks to Orlando and great timeline of life!
legendary event here in Berkeley just before I arrived, having seen TH twice on the East Coast and then twice in the auditorium behind them in this viddy....a golden age long ago so what? get the message from it ... and take it easy, baby
I lived in Berkeley at the time and saw many bands at Sproul Plaza. Unfortunately, I was just a couple years too young to see or know about this show. I wish I had been there! Years later, however, I did see David Byrne standing in the doorway of a Thai restaurant on Telegraph Ave just down the street. I walked right past him and did a double take before going back to shake his hand and tell him I loved his music. I think he was doing a show in Berkeley at the time for his solo tour.
I was fortunate enough to see Talking Heads during this tour - they played at UCLA. They spent the next several years expanding and creating new ways of playing pop music, but I don't think they ever did anything better than "More Songs About Buildings And Food".
I invited David Byrne over to the targetvideo studios in Oakland and filmed an interview about 70's music. Later he helped book some showings of my films in NYC.
This is the version of TH I like best. I saw them as a 4 piece in a Toronto club in 78, never having heard their music before. I ended up with quite a few Talking Heads albums over the years. Jerry Harrison was a great addition to the original 3 piece version of the band btw. Played both keys and guitar and fleshed out the audio palette very nicely. I wasn't as crazy about the band when they expanded beyond 4 members.
I really enjoyed this video. The audio seems very clear and professional while the video appears more amateurish. Definitely a remaster of the audio, but still very nice.
They were touring with the 'Tubes' and played at the Palace of fine art's that week.. This show was free, I can't remember but DEVO may have played also..
Talking Heads were an American rock band formed in 1975 in New York City and active until 1991. The band was composed of Scottish-born David Byrne (lead vocals, guitar), drummer Chris Frantz, bassist Tina Weymouth, and Jerry Harrison (keyboards, guitar).🥁🎺🎷🎸
A friend of mine was there, and when they played Psycho Killer, it was an eerie moment, as Dan White had just murdered Mayor Moscone and Harvey Milk in San Francisco.
This band - So influential in "Rock" its not even funny. They came out in mid 70s -themselves influenced by the likes of Velvet underground/Lou Reed, Dylan.. Then they in turn influenced everything from punk/post-punk/new wave..basically everything this influence could get its grasp on. Think Minutemen and thats about all you need to know..God bless this man and this bad they sure have had an influence on me.
