Last song of the first set. They did this concert in 2 parts. His 'any questions' line is actually overdubbed, on the album he says they're taking a short break and will be right back.
Talk about "vigorously"! If you wanna see vigourous you should check out some of Oingo Boingo's live shows! Those guys will be literally jogging in place while playing their instruments! Huge respect for all the artists out there who are able to play while running in place lol!
As an aside, I cannot tell you all how hard it is to be that physical on stage and not be breathless. I was blown away when I saw them live and I think I was taking deep breaths for them! WOOF!
It looks like every member is having a blast. David is the Energizer Bunny. They are so creative. The music is amazing, and the visuals are so entertaining.
'83 Stop Making Sense Tour Sweetwaters Music Festival NZ.. Amazing concert! Playing the concert through big screen HD projector & 5.1 audio takes me strait back there.. Fantastic gig Fantastic musicians ..Icons all!
David Byrne is one in a million. the man is fantastic, his songs were good and fun, his message is of thinking, growing, including, respecting, embracing... and dude, he could dance back then!
Oh... Good for you... Tired of this comments " I see them once.." Or " I go to concerts since... (date), saw a lot of them , and this Band is on top of my favorites"....
"Life During Wartime" is a song by the American rock band Talking Heads, released in 1979 on their album "Fear of Music". The song's lyrics describe a dystopian, post-apocalyptic world where people are forced to live in hiding and scavenge for survival, as the government and military have collapsed. The song's upbeat and energetic musical style contrasts with its dark subject matter, and has made it one of Talking Heads' most popular and enduring songs. The song's opening lines, "Heard of a van that is loaded with weapons / Packed up and ready to go", have been interpreted as a reference to the radical left-wing group, the Weather Underground, who were known for their militant actions during the 1960s and 70s. The song has also been interpreted as a commentary on the political and social climate of the late 1970s, a time of economic recession and political turmoil in the United States. "Life During Wartime" has been covered by numerous artists and has been featured in several films and TV shows, including "The Sopranos" and "The Simpsons". Its iconic bass line and driving rhythm have made it a staple of dance floors and rock clubs for decades.
I've been obsessed with this song for the past few weeks - working from home I've been at my standing desk jumping around and flailing while I sing - seeing it live for the first time I realize that the aerobic workout goes hand in hand with the song. Can't have one without the other.
After a decade of listening to them and realizing that I liked everything I was hearing I was like “hmmm I must be a fan!” Melody is great, the rhythm is tight and the lyrics have always spoken to me.
There is not a band or a singer who could even come close to doing that today in 2023 I am so lucky to have had the privilege of listening to David and his music through the 80s genius
Lyrics: Heard of a van that is loaded with weapons, Packed up and ready to go Heard of some grave sites, out by the highway, A place where nobody knows The sound of gunfire, off in the distance, I'm getting used to it now Lived in a brownstone, lived in a ghetto, I've lived all over this town This ain't no party, this ain't no disco, This ain't no fooling around No time for dancing, or lovey dovey, I ain't got time for that now Transmit the message, to the receiver, Hope for an answer some day I got three passports, a couple of visas, You don't even know my real name High on a hillside, the trucks are loading, Everything's ready to roll I sleep in the daytime, I work in the nighttime, I might not ever get home This ain't no party, this ain't no disco, This ain't no fooling around This ain't no Mudd Club, or C. B. G. B., I ain't got time for that now Heard about Houston? Heard about Detroit? Heard about Pittsburgh, P. A.? You oughta know not to stand by the window Somebody see you up there I got some groceries, some peanut butter, To last a couple of days But I ain't got no speakers, ain't got no headphones, Ain't got no records to play Why stay in college? Why go to night school? Gonna be different this time Can't write a letter, can't send no postcard, I ain't got time for that now Trouble in transit, got through the roadblock, We blended in with the crowd We got computers, we're tapping phone lines, I know that that ain't allowed We dress like students, we dress like housewives, Or in a suit and a tie I changed my hairstyle, so many times now, I don't know what I look like! You make me shiver, I feel so tender, We make a pretty good team Don't get exhausted, I'll do some driving, You ought to get you some sleep Burned all my notebooks, what good are notebooks? They won't help me survive My chest is aching, burns like a furnace, The burning keeps me alive
@@johnbailey9864 me too. With the last lines ‘my chest is aching, burns like a furnace, the burning keeps me alive’, it’s hard to unsee Byrne as icon of the cross (bronze snake on pole) in fourth verse.
@@gooders7366 I was thinking more narrative. Our character in the narrator has met his end to a gunshot to the chest, but the adrenaline has kept him going.
Legend has it that Tina and the two dancer/backup vocalists are still doing this cardio routine and have burned, to date, 110,451, 078, 994, 664, 337 calories.
My brother was going through some serious medical problems . He was always down , never smiled or laughed . I showed him this video and he literally laughed out loud . He eventually passed away . I can't watch this and not think of him . RIP BROTHER DAN
Every person who has commented here, you are all awesome for acknowledging a band putting on one of the greatest concerts ever and all they're doing is having fun and being happy.
WOW!!! Just remembering being at 2 of their shows. I'm feeling really sad that now kids don't know and won't experience how great it was having music and concerts. Being in my 60's I sure have a lot to appreciate and look back on :-)
The Stop Making Sense Tour was epic...A once in a decade or even a once in a generation quality artistic masterpiece. David Byrne is a genius and he assembled a great band. This tour was (arguably) his zenith. It burned down the house.
One of my all ⏱️ favorite Lines! This ain't no party, this ain't no disco. This ain't no fooling around!- TOTALLY Energized ENERGY! Yes indeed, TALKING 🗣️...💨- Great📎- Thanks-
the talking heads are just one of those bands that slipped through the cracks so underrated it's ridiculous but there's not one good band out there today if it wasn't influenced by these guys David Byrne a true genius true entertainer hilarious and a truth to his music that can't be heard until you really listen to the songs
I don’t think they “slipped through the cracks” at all. They were and still are recognized for their incredible talent and their contributions to music in general. I do agree with your influence observation. I’ve been thinking about that since I read it and I’m pretty sure every band I’m a fan of today lists The Talking Heads as one of their influences. They were so versatile that they get mentioned by bands from almost every genre that I can think of.
I have friends (older than me) who saw the show when it came to their city. When they walked into the auditorium, there was a lot of confusion in the assembling audience. The curtains were open, and there was _nothing_ on the stage. For regular concert-goers, it was very unusual, because normally the stage crew spends hours getting everything ready for the band, followed by a sound-check once all the equipment is in place. They didn’t know what to think, but were completely blown away as the evening progressed.
No words. Watching this I’m reminded of how good and ahead of their time they were. Brilliant. A band I never had the chance to see live, but I wish I had. Thanks for posting.
Jesus, that he sounds THAT good moving like that is just bonkers. And he's just being David Byrne. He gives zero f*cks if you find him sexy or appealing, these are the moves that go with the noises coming out of his mouth. He's a genius
I just love how this song portrays that kinda nerdish Paranoia of the time but also is made so believable by David, Talking Heads are absolutely brilliant because they put so much character into every song. I absolutely love them and still listen to them almost daily.
