City Of Troy won the Derby this year. 45 years ago Troy won it. In 1979 there were three tv stations, BBC1, BBC2 and ITV. There were no smartphones, laptops or personal computers of any sort. Derby Day was broadcast live on BBC and ITV. Just a different world.

Chris Cook & Ralph Beckett are spot on. E.g at Newbury Audience came from the pre-parade ring late, walked across the main paddock, jockey on & straight out. Didn’t complete one lap & then went and won a G1 - complete farce. Some trainers will try to get away with it because they don’t want paddock watchers backing their horses, some simply don’t care about the public seeing their horses. BHA & racecourses need to get serious & start fining these trainers as per their own rules, it’s their product so they should protect it. Horses with dispensation fair enough, as long as the public are aware they are going to post early.

You can see the pre parade ring at goodwood nick unless you are in the Lennox enclosure. It has access from both sides, I am in there every meeting looking along with the other ten people. Agreed with Jamie, this isn’t a massive issue nor what people want to see unless it’s a big day

The single biggest problem is that there is far too much racing. The number of flat races is incredible not least because of the non-stop low grade All Weather racing. Owners are opting for cheaper horses and flat racing rather than jump racing because there is more prize money on offer on the flat. NH racing is suffering because the amount of Prize money on the flat (Turf + A/W) is way way higher than jump racing. Do we really need so many A/W races? If you dilute a pot of prize money over 1000s and 1000s of races it ceases to be compelling. Its great for the Bookmakers and Race Course owners but it is detrimental to the sport. Jump racing is under threat not just because of the Animal Rights lobby but the sheer affordability of it because of crap prize money and when that is gone its gone and then what? A doubling or trebling of A/W races? Will our racing become Donkey Derbies on Dirt like America? Our heritage is being sacrificed to Corporate greed. We need quality & excitement to attract new punters not gazillions of boring A/W races nor Sunday night race meetings.

@@spindrifter7519 Quality over quantity automatically means that races where horses run with a lower handicap will be removed in order to make way for only racing with horses with a higher handicap - but a horse has to race off a low handicap and win/placed to get a higher handicap.

Parading ALL horses in the paddock for a reasonable amount of time prior to a race is essential to permit punters an opportunity, on course and via television/online, to assess the field. Neglect this and racing will lose patrons, simple as that.

Did the jockey club look up dido Harding's CV COVID I suggest they start with the elephant in the room is the number crunchers as bookmakers taking money out off racing for their shareholders if it goes tote only money goes directly back into racing not bookmakers pockets but will they discuss doing that

Off the top of my head I can think of Robin Cook Labour MP who was a big horse racing fan amongst others, including Alex Salmond SNP and Alba Parties. The Tories haven't a monopoly of racing friendly MPs over the years. There are many more than the aforementioned I am sure. For a lot of people part of the enjoyment of going racing, particularly NH and "provincial" tracks, is seeing the likes of Nicky Henderson's or Paul Nicholls' horses running at Kelso 2 weeks before Cheltenham is seeing them in the paddock before they run. It may not be the largest issue facing racing, but it is an issue.

I'm astounded the guest doesn't understand why seeing a horse in the parade ring is so important; the fact that those supposedly in the know of the sport, know nothing shows why there is a problem in the sport. ITV coverage of racing is dire, no Channel 4 Racing. To much reliance on smartfones, when cash in hand has worked forever.

Another thing that doesn't ring true to me is that if there is not enough prize money in racing why has the likes of hannon and co got over 200 horses in training if prize money was a problem they would have a lot fewer owners in my opinion prize money is a red herring

@@robertdelacy3434 and they are not powerful factors in our racing. Horses here have to be fast from the gates it requires a total different type of horse. Yesterday was the Belmont it concluded our classic season. None of the races were won by powerful owners. Coolmore, Shadwell,godolphin are all here none of them were factors in our classics. The same can't be Said in England, Ireland and France.
