She's obviously talking about Betty Bobbitt when she says she never met the American actress. At that time Judy was outside running the halfway house, i don't think they ever had scenes together.
Although, if Judy had looked through the front window, she would have seen Barbara turning up to work as the shoe factory was practically across the road. 🤣
Great actress and character from the iconic series. One character who stood out for me. At the time she was someone who was naturally attractive and considering the cast seldom wore makeup she always looked stunning - even in her denim. A lady who has aged well. Nice to see.
This is a really good interview, as you say there was literally no trace of Susan online anywhere so well done Matt for finding her, and I think it made Susan’s day to hear how well loved her character was and still well remembered by so many fans
Agreed she was 1 of the classics, basically she came in and caused strife and mayhem in a short while for the central characters and buggered off again leaving a trail of destruction in her path . characters like this can go down as some of the most memorable in shows.
What a nice interview and what a lovely lady. She only looks like she's aged by 10 to 20 years since Prisoner, not over 40 years! Diane Keaton and Sharon Stone, eat your hearts out! lol
@@TalkingPrisoner It's just incredible that Susan was found and wanted to do this interview, so I enjoyed every second of what she had to share. And she was so nice about it, she obviously has fond memories of Prisoner even though it was only 3 months out of her whole life. It shows how impactful the show was. It also doesn't hurt that she still looks great. It's rad! Hope to meet het at the event. 👍👍
Great interview as usual Ken and Matt - what a great lady Susan is. She totally underestimates her importance to the dynamics of the show. Barbara had such a vital role in what was a standout/dramatic era of Prisoner. She was even (indirectly) responsible for the killing of one of the Freak's beloved pooch's (Haddow). For a short role, it was certainly iconic. 😊
Thank you for your kind words…I recently just re watched all of Susan’s episodes and her acting is just amazing, did you enjoy the series cliffhanger ? the great Wentworth fire.
@@TalkingPrisoner I remember when I first watched it back in October 1991 I believe it was - I was totally in shock, particularly the "Mouse on fire" scene. Was quite horrific watching that at 16. I remember that final scene where Bea has the keys and is chocking on the fumes and giving her dying speach to The Freak that she's taking her with her. So powerful and heart pumping to watch. Fantastic episode from such an iconic show. Keep up the great work to all of you on the "TP" team. 😊
Wow Susan looks so good, barely any difference in her appearance. What a humble and interesting lady to listen to, such fun. Thanks boys for such a great interview. 🏴
@TalkingPrisoner I certainly did. The show started airing in Scotland around late 87'. I got Terry Burke's book in 1990 which summarised a lot of the future storylines including the Great Fire of Wentworth. At that point, Vera had just left the show so I hyped up the Freak's arrival and this particular cliffhanger, months in advance to my mates at school. It did not disappoint when it finally aired in 93'. Enjoyed Susan's performance....understand her actor's frustration that there wasn't so much to get her teeth into. Expect the character was designed more as a plot device than to be given any great character arc. Very cool and interesting lady.
Great interview...what a lovely person Susan seems....a great addition to the TP interviews....she's looking great too...looking forward to lots more....great work ❤
That was brilliant! Susan is delightful and her acting as Barbara was spot on. Her character was in complete contrast to the rest of the characters which is what made it even more believable. Loved Barbara! I think some of the actresses were probably jealous of you Susan which is why they treated you in that way but just my opinion 😊
Really enjoyed this one. Susan is a bit hard on herself as I think she played the character of Barbara brilliantly. The overacting, as Susan says, was spot on for her as Barbara was a bit of a dramatic character...when it suited her. Love these 'rare' cast interviews. Thanks very much all.
Omg, can't believe that you managed to get Susan. What a lovely lady. Barbara was such a superb character that was killed off too soon. This made my day. Greetings from Sweden.
What a wonderful interview. So nice to see Susan again, and she is so giving in this interview with her answers and her amazing life. She comes accross as a truly beautiful soul and thank to Matt for asking my question and Susan for answering it. Wish I could come over for your meet and greet.
wonderful interview from a delightful down to earth lady! I fancied Barbara when I watched her episodes in the UK in the early 90s. I would not have recognised Susan today but she still looks fabulous and looks so young still!
@@TalkingPrisoner I loved that you've mad ethem all happen - especially after so many years. Favourites are Louise Siversen, Sean Nash, Pepe Trevor, Kate Hood and Louise Le Nay.
Whilst Fields wasn’t a physical match for the Freak, she certainly did give her the run around mentally. Fantastic acting in that Barbara was really dishonest and essentially dodgy (central to the fire storyline). Amazing interview x
Another great interview Ken and Matt. I couldn't help but relate to Susan's opening comments about her mother as I endured a similar situation with mine.
Wow guys...what a genuine, beautiful, kind and humble person Susan comes across as. Such a great interview with although a short lived Prisoner character such a pivotol one. Great work Ken and Matt as always. Out of interest do we have any more interviews lined up ? X
Ah, so good to see Susan. Thanks for asking my question to her about if she watches the fire episode… Even though she didn’t answer it. Lol. Greetings to all from Cyprus. (Tezzy) 💙
Have to say, as a teenager (and even watching the series now.. lol) had a massive crush on Barbara Fields despite her cunning and manipulative streak. I'm sure I'm not alone! Underneath, Barbara was a vulnerable, smart and nice lady who I thought developed a cunning streak as an intelligent way of safeguarding herself in a hostile environment, because she was physically small and weaker than the other tough and butch women. It was heart breaking when she was overcome by smoke in the Guv's office and collapsed to the floor. Considering how nice Susan is, we can see what great acting it was from her when she played Barbara (referred to once as Barbie by Lizzie after she was killed in the fire).
@@TalkingPrisoner I think she was the type of character that had a lot of versatility and potential, especially on the outside if she got released. She could have teamed up with Lionel Fellowes and double crossed The Freak and stuff. She may still have ended up getting caught in some cross-fire and killed, but I think she could have stayed in the show for another 100 or so episodes!
yes its very obvious she was talking about Betty. She didn't remember the name and said Bobby by mistake. She wasn't even on the show at the same time as Maxine Klibingaitis.
Lovely interview and she has not changed much . She really underestimates the impact that Barbara Fields had to the series . I suppose it's 41 years ago so it's understandable.
I think Susan was trying to think of American actress, Betty Bobbitt a couple of times during the interview, but it can get confusing with the character name Bobby all these years later.
I think so, and it would have been amazing to see how far they could have taken the character. What do you think would have happened if Barbara did not die in the fire ?
I'm the opposite to Susan regarding math/s at school. It came so naturally, and still does 53 years after I first started school. But I hated languages with a passion. And still do. Even though as an obviously bright middle aged man I can understand a lot of French and even the odd bit of Latin.
I wonder how old she is now she still has that innocent girl look that Barbara had lived her character wish she had been in it a lot more she was clever and could have done more storylines against the freak
