Brent is very humble about his performance on TNG. Acting is way more than speaking the lines. There's body language, intonation, volume and other things that go into the performance. He was magnificent on TNG.

When I was a child Denise was my hero. I loved Tasha Yar dearly. She had short blonde hair like me and had problems and didn't fit in and she was my favorite character. I loved the dynamic she had with data. I truly believe that if Denise had stayed on the show data and Tasha would have been the "it" couple that Riker and trio were. There was so great chemistry on her show.. Geordie and data, Riker and picard, crusher and picard, Riker and trio, Guinean and picard, Worf and Deanna.

"You are beautiful,” he said. She seemed startled. “Some people think so.” “It is generally agreed upon among the bridge crew. Yet you are quite different in appearance from Counselor Troi, who is also universally admired. Captain Picard thinks that Dr. Crusher is beautiful, while her son finds that fact both incomprehensible and disturbing.” “Data-what have you been doing?” Tasha asked in dismay. “Taking a poll?” “Yes,” he replied honestly. “I wish to comprehend human ideals of beauty.”" (from "Survivors (Star Trek: The Next Generation Book 4) (English Edition)" by Jean Lorrah)

A lot of actors would want to get one hit where they are set for life. Then they can do dinner theater somewhere because of their passion. These STNG actors are very lucky and blessed.
@reneearnoux5910
@reneearnoux5910 4 года назад
"A lot of actors would want to get one hit where they are set for life." Oh, if only that were remotely true. Hate to inform you of this but even some highly acclaimed actors with several timeless roles to their names hit hard times and some died in poverty. Judy Garland would just be one example but she was literally broke and an alcoholic wreck by the time she was in her mid 40's. But fair enough: You're never *forgotten* by a whole generation once you had a role in a hit. Even if you hit hard times there are people who remember you.

@ExireHG

She did an interview about how she was miserable on the show and despised the idea of having to say, "Aye, Aye, Captain" for years. It seemed she left on her own terms to try other stuff and never had any regrets about it. Good for her I say, the sense of being trapped is a terrible feeling. Not everything is about fame and loads of cash. Hell, Brent seems to largely resent it himself.
@Maazzzo
@Maazzzo 7 лет назад
Actually I disagree completely. For the exception of two episodes, (Skin of Evil and Yesterday's Enterprise), Tasha was a generic character with no real substance other than 'tough chick'. By leaving and demanding to be killed off, she forced the writers to take the show to a new level. The episode she's killed off served as a turning point for the show. Generally, when things happen on Star Trek (for exception of DS9), there are no permanent consequences to the show - nothing so serious that could happen that it couldn't be undone. And she forced them to write her a wonderful exit that reset the show - now, all the sudden, for the first time In Trek history, we could lose a character even if they're in the main credits. It was that moment that lent credit to the two parter where Picard was kidnapped by the Borg. Before Tasha was killed off, there would have never been a chance that Picard could be properly killed off - it made the threat feel real - it gave the intense episodes weight. They didn't have to actually kill off Picard - it was enough of a threat that they could. Tasha and Worf were too similar - they were both warriors, orphaned at a young age, and both found refuge in Starfleet. Both worked in security. They weren't doing anything with either character. By leaving, Crosby forced them to 1) do something with Worf (which worked out really well), 2) For the first time, not to reset instantly to have everything completely fine by the end of the episode, and 3) Write her a brilliant exit that felt meaningful and real, 4) write her a fabulous return (Yesterday's Enterprise). Crosby herself said she has had no regrets either for leaving, or for being associated with the show now. She was happy, it improved the show, and I see that as a win.

I'm surprised that no one asked about The Naked Now. With just the two of them on the panel, you'd think it would have come up. Maybe nobody in the room had the nerve? I certainly would have. In my opinion, Data didn't get nearly enough action over the course of the show. Everyone else had multiple relationships over the years. Then again, I hated the episode with Jena. But that was the fault of the writing, not the acting. Jena was written as so stereotypically flighty and needy. God I hated her. And I know it was supposed to be funny, the way Data fumbled all of their interactions, but it just made him look stupid. He had no emotions, but he was highly intelligent. Like I said, just bad writing. I think it would have been more interesting if he had an encounter with a Vulcan. Or a Klingon. Now THAT could have been funny!

People who chose to arrogantly leave the shows should not be at trek conventions (Denise Crosby, Wil Wheaton, Michelle Forbes, etc) They are fakes and imposters. They are all like, "Well my career flopped after I left so let me sneak back into the trek universe and get recognition again."

Crosby left as she had a chance to star in a film (OK it didn;t take off) but ST:TNG wasn't a done deal during the first season and many didn't know whether it would take off. Would you find it reasonable to ignore success from your past because it wasn't permanent? The cast was, and still is, very close. They are like a family. And I doubt very much that the members who continued on the show would appreciate your judgements. You don't know these people. You don't know their lives.
