Rudolf Haken is professor of viola and electric strings at University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign. He has been working with wah and similar effects for over 20 years in both improvisational and through composed settings. (He has written two concertos for electric violin and performed countless other works on amplified instruments.)
He's a deep thinker and a tireless explorer of sounds and textures. He's also a fantastic teacher who has introduced hundreds of acoustic players to the world of amplified and effected music.
Here, he'll give his thoughts on wah with bowed strings, share some of his experiences and learnings, and we'll even get to hear him play several different pieces of music.
