Ethiopia should look into nuclear power plants, and other green forms of energy. This will make them less dependant on the hydroelectricity through the dam. With reduced dependency on the dam, comes less of a need to restrict so much of the water supply. Increased flow of the Nile river will resolve and dissolve this dispute between both nations. Ethiopia cannot rely solely on the hydroelectric dam, indefinitely; even supposed "developed countries" (countries are always developing, just as an FYI) require other sources of energy and 'nuclear' is a powerful and study alternative. Think of it as a miniature sun/battery or 'heart' that all major countries (that are geopolitically active) need to order to secure their civilization's electric system. A temporary pause to that circuitry will immediately affect their civilisation [circuitry] system. I doubt they would even be able to make use to their railway. My point is, Ethiopia really does not to diversify their sources of reliable, green energy. And nuclear is an effect alternative that will suit Ethiopia will l very well, - and on all fronts: not only will it secure the growth, safety and power needs of their country, but it will also prevent Ethiopia from making an enemy of Egypt; which at worst could spiral into unnecessary, embarrassing and inconvenient warfare... All 'that' inconvenience, because of 'ONE' dam??? - 'ONE' relatively [un]'stable' power source??? And how stable is that power source if it understandably triggers a war between two nations who are supposed to be friendly and on genuinely good terms with each other? The possibility and understandable threat of war should and will be avoided. The reason being, if a war broke out between nations, then that would mean that the dam was destroyed (at varying time frames; before or after the war). This would escalate to include the following atrocities that neither nations deserve or want for their respective civilizations, i.e. the loss of human life, embarrassment to the continent/Africa's reputation, destruction of properties, landmarks, etc. The dam's 'sole' existence will 'not' be allowed to cause warfare. You [Ethiopia] need to diversify your [electric] sources of power, Ethiopia. The dams sole existence causes too much friction, geopolitically; which ultimately, ruins the extent of the dam's stability as a reliable source of power. Diminishing the Nile _(especially given its importance, as the life blood of Egypt, is cause for the dams destruction, which might spiral into war... The outcome is stupid. Avoid it)._ Conclusion: One way or another; in the near or distant future, Ethiopia will experience the crucial need to diversify their [electric] power supply. Why not start right away, Ethiopia? This will solve 'ALL' your problems, in the short-term and long-term, it will also make Egypt a likely, ['formidable'] ally of Ethiopia, militarily, - but against the West! SIDE NOTE: Intuitively, I have a strong hunch that ENTP ('narcissists' - in which the majority of that neuropersonality and brain-formation are often born comorbid with it) are highly prevalent in the Ethiopia's government. This is not true. Yes, for a long time Egypt prevented up stream countries for using the Nile waters. But Egypt has now come to accept that Ethiopia has the right to use the waters of the Nile including building the GERD dam. Egypt wants Ethiopia to commit in a written agreement that it will continue to share the waters of the Nile especially in times of drought. I don't get why Ethiopia is against this. What happened in the past should not prevent us from progressing now. Africa supported Ethiopia's right to build the dam but it doesn't support Ethiopia's refusal to share the waters of the Nile.

As an African, I love Palki Sharma & other Indian news organizations... but I have beginning to notice some twist of narratives from these news organizations as regard to Africa, like calling the recent coups in Africa as Scramble of Africa. Scrambling of African natural resources in the past by outside Powers led to colonialism, but the African people are doing the opposite by kicking out neo- colonists. As India rises fast in global geo-politics, they are subtlely extending their hate of rise of China to Africa because of Chinese involvement in Africa infrastructural quest. African Union have their work cought out for them when a rapid growing powerful India would reveal their intentions on Africa with respect to the so called Indian Ocean & associated Islands closer to African shores.

The Nile doesn't just provide fresh water, its periodic flooding deposits fertile silt on the river banks since ancient times. This makes the land on either side of the Nile fertile and perfect for agriculture. It would cost billions to provide that much fertilizer otherwise.

Colonial-Era 1902 agreement void when Egypt and Sudan renegotiate the treaty. Hence the treaty doesn't apply to use. Even if we follow 1902 agreement the treaty doesn't prevented Ethiopia from building Hydropower plant as long as we didn't arrest Nile water we r free to build GERD on the other hand 1902 treaty doesn't give right to Egypt to build Aswan dam hence it must be removed if they want 1902 to apply

GERD is meant to generate electricity and water flows to Sudan and Egypt as usual . Egypt is well aware of this more than anyone . But ; Egypt opposes the construction of GERD. The hidden agenda is that GERD creates a golden opportunity, providing regulated water flow throughout the year ,for Sudan to expand its vast farmland . This automatically reduces the amount of water that flows to Egypt . In addition to this; it enables Sudan to harvest three times in a year Which is a blow to Egypt .
