Not saying this is bad, But there is a lot power here that just needs to be cleaned up. sounds like each of these kids are just forcefully blowing on these poor horns with no regard to tone and control, its like each player is in his own world. it would be well advised if the instructor focused on tone and control rather than volume. once you master the tone and control the volume will come naturally but will sound much better. imagine if these southern college bands focused on this more in each of their brass sections what a power house they would be and the sound would be beyond awesome
+Shawn VanCuren exactly. That's all i did was work on tone and control when i first started mellophone. i never tried to put so much power on my horn because i knew it would be crap. All i focused on was tone and quality and control. Then after i felt a little confident and i was adept, i started putting natural power and the more i focus on control, the more powerful my default is. Now, i don't get tired as much and if i do get tired, i quickly recover and i keep going.
WHY are all these comments so NEGATIVE??? This is an AMAZING mellophone section!!! Especially because they are so hard to play!!! I thought this was AMAZING!!!!!
stancio oliver It is really easy to hit wrong notes on mellophone, especially because it easily corresponds to the French Horn. Definitely harder to play than the other brass instruments.
kason cheese Nope it isn't Maybe for you because your embouchure isn't right for the instrument...the overtune series wasn't even that hard to get pass
This mello section has the same issue as most SWAC bands. They can play. But they know very little about pitch, intonation and playing together. They overblow everything and it masks their talent and ability.
People love to say this but no one acknowledges how you need to have good pitch accuracy to even attempt to do something like this. i would actually argue that they are playing together even if these fanfares do need work
stancio oliver I've played my mellophone with a trumpet mouthpiece and the sound it slightly sharper than the average mellophone. What they're doing is pretty much forcing a 'trumpet-like' sound, which is so unnecessary.
