Late in life, Tallulah reportedly almost fell into a NYC taxi with cigarette in hand. Having given address, taxi driver said You're Tallulah Bankhead. Her reply, Frankly my Dahling, I'm what's LEFT of Tallulah Bankhead! As always a dramatic performance 👏 💐
This definitely was "Comedy Gold!" When trying to get a date and the Elevator guy (Tom Poston) keeps blocking! People actually use to dress, this elegantly! Tallulah, finally got her Steve Allen! Such a Funny skit!! 😁😅😁
Steve Allen's Sunday night program was a favorite of my father so it's very likely I watched this when first shown. One thing about growing up when I did, I was introduced to a lot of memorable stars through these variety shows.
Tom Poston the lift attendant from Mork and Mindy. I was watching Tallulah in an old Hammer film. She plays a menacing part of a psychotic mother with Stephanie Powers as her victim. Just pure class the film was Die Die my darling or may have been released in the USA as Fanatic made in 1965. I cant emphasize enough to you to check the flick out if your a fan.
Yes indeed ! "Die Die My Darling" was Ms Bankhead's last film appearance and it's an xlnt thriller. She really gives poor Stephanie Powers a bad time ! Thanks for your perceptive comment ! CHEERS !! :-)
Steven Allen looks older than 26 years old here and so does Tom Post. Both born in 1921. Tom looks is 6ft tall and Steve is 6'3"? Steve looks 6'7" compared to Tom?
the exchanges were essential until the 1960s ... but they also made the telephone numbers fun. I still remember the exchange for my home phone in OC, in So Cal in the 1950s: Jasper.
When phone numbers started with a word, I believe it’s first 2 letters were dialed. Circle would be CI. When I was a kid, our number started with the word State, and people dialed ST. BTW Talulah’s comedy chops were in peak form in her appearance on The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour. Well worth checking out. I’d never seen this elevator sketch before - it’s charming! Thanks for posting!
