I think the most obvious difference between Rob's version and Tally Hall's can be seen just in the title. Rob's version is in all caps, it doesn't leave room for him to fail, he IS going to win
sadly rob cantor will be remembered only as the "shia labeouf song" guy and not a lot of his other great works will be remembered. i love rob cantor, but i wish he got more recognition for more than just shia labeouf.
It's a sad thing indeed, I actually came here to find the original song since a flipnote made me come here, I didn't really care about the animation, I just wanted to hear the song, I insterd of this one first, it's a good song, both of them are, tally hall and rob cantor are the best. :3
+BAH- BAMMMM I listened to a couple of his songs and I thinkhHe's good! But naming a song ''Shia Lebeouf'' can have this effect! he made a choice that could give him a certain visibility and he got some!
cdrake99999 Yeah I took note to listen to TALLY HALL. It's just that in that 3 months I got a super deal on cd and I bought 102 for 40$ and I'm currently obsessed with the recording of my own. But don't worry I'll end up listening to them! :) Thanks!
It's strange how people in the comments are like "wow this is different from the tally hall version" without realizing that there is a tally hall version of nearly these exact lyrics. Rob didn't change these lyrics drastically, these are just the latest revision. I'm in love with this version's intense tone, almost makes me wish this was done with the rest of the band, but that's just a dream
I think of it as kind of a light and dark reprise - the POV character is the same in my mind - they've left the friends that weren't helpful at all and not offering any real advice that could help, and while they're alone (and they probably don't want to be), they are definitely better off than in All of My Friends
i feel like people miss that the previous songs' lyrics are actually more self-defeatist and sad than this song. This song is about how despite everything in life pushing you down you'll succeed, even out of spite. But in the previous songs the lyrics imply that all of their friends help them get through the hard times but they *literally don't have any friends and they're all in his head*. There isn't a support structure, and by the end of the song it's more like they're in denial. this is the more happy one than the previous, but the tone is way different which makes it seem more evil and cruel.
all of my friends is about a man who thinks that it's ok to supress the things going on in your head, and he tries to convince himself that everything will be fine if he does. and as the song goes on, he gets driven further and further into madness. until near the end when his "friends" offer help to him, and he realises that they were never real, and he completely breaks down
Bro just put my thoughts into words. I'm Gonna Win is positive, about someone who, dispite his hardships, fights through them while trying to come out on top. The problem comes from the way Cantor arranged the song, which makes it sound like it's being sung by a psychopath who's already lost everything years ago and only half-realizes it, thus creating a public perception of it being a villain song despite, from a lyrical perspective, being quite the opposite. If anything, All of my Friends is the villain origin song and I'm Gonna Win is the hero's song. I honestly love Rob's work both inside and outside of Tally Hall, but I personally think he messed up here (all the more odd considering it was originally Joe's song).
everybody saying this sounds like an anti-hero or villain song, but tbh it feels more like a "life sucks and i feel like the universe has it in for me, but *fuck you* universe i'm gonna keep going out of spite." song
BREAKING NEWS: Singer/Songwriter Rob Cantor is suing Singer/Songwriter Rob Cantor because of Cantor taking the melody from Cantor’s band’s song ‘All of My Friends’ in order for Cantor to create his song ‘I’m Gonna Win.’ Not only did Cantor steal this song, but Cantor also gave no credit to Cantor and his band, and then sold it as his own. Cantor is enraged by Cantor’s actions, and the Cantor/Cantor case will be beginning on the twenty-sixth of August.
I think it's kind of the opposite. 'All of my Friends' is about a schizophrenic man going mad but still trying to live normally. While 'I'm Gonna Win' probably is about determination and trying to better yourself no matter the hardship
@@meegmoog5 YOU DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ME YOU FUCKIN ASSHOLE (Lol jk and i understand why you'd think that from my previous comment and, i must say i kind of agree.)
Am I the only one who noticed how tragic are the differences between the lyrics of the old tally hall's version of this song, and rob's new one? It seems like once it was about how your friends are there for you, and are helping you on hard times, and rob's one is a bitter and hateful version of the same song, about fighting alone with no one on your side. We love you rob, whatever it is that happened to you ),:
I see the old version as his friends (while they mean well) dismissing his feelings and experiences with mental illness, while "I'm gonna win" is a realization that only he can change himself and fight to be the person he wants to be by taking charge of his life.
@@pururin42 unfortunately not everyone knows this Ive only known rob cantor from 2015 or something bc of Shia Lebouf and shortly after that YT recommended Tally Hall to me. And... I just found out a month ago that he was in Tally Hall. Don't need to sound condescending UwU everyone finds out about these at their own pace and it's fine!
Love how the mood and message of this song so heavily feels like it varies throughout it, from an oppressed individual fighting for his life, to a man desperately clawing his way to the top, to a powerful narcissist with a god complex.
My life is a constant entrapment of tunnels Which tangle and wind and beguile And regardless of where I may tumble or funnel I wonder what's really worthwhile Sometimes it can seem like a merciless dream And I'm falling with nothing to hold Sometimes I get flustered and beaten and blistered Abandoned outside in the cold But I'm gonna win, I'm gonna try I'll never lose, I'll never die You've seen me before, you'll see me again I'll never give up, I'll never give in Til I'm bloody and bruised Til I've broken my bones Til I won't be abused Til I'm laughing alone It's hard to be charming and smart and disarming It's hard to pretend you're the best It's hard to fulfill everyone's expectations It's hard to keep up with the rest How do you feel? You've been concealing your worries from the world But you can reveal them to me I wouldn't know I go on even though I'll be bloody and bruised I'll be breaking my bones I'll be paying my dues I'll be laughing alone
@@Jujub0607 Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm sure I remember there not being any lyrics in the description at some point?! I remember watching this video last year, being gutted there was no lyrics, then seeing this comment and going "Yes, thanks queen!"
I'm pretty grateful for this song. I identify with some elements of this song, but most of all, I like how despite all this apparent trouble that happens, 'I'm gonna win' is still the theme.
I always imagine this as a villainous song. In the beginning, a Villain is walking through a desolated city with the rock guitars... and as soon as he starts the chorus, he's skipping around creating destruction. Wonderful. This is my favorite piece in the album.
***** WHAT, WHERE?! I MUST KNOW EDIT: Ah, I found it's being held on "Hidden in the Sand." Sadly. I don't know if I could make the September 30th deadline. I still have school.
You know, I couldn't have expected less from the guy who did Actual Cannibal (which I use to teach some of my intermediate students English). This has all of my favorite elements of both the Scissor Sisters and Tom Lehrer, and I've never been happier to give someone money for music than I am when I listen to this song. Thanks, Mr. Cantor. You're the greatest.
honestly, while i do agree with interpretations revolving "succeeding against all odds out of spite", i feel like the softer parts of the song go unnoticed by folks. the melody before the choruses sound so encouraging and gentle. lines such as "you've been concealing your worries from the world; but you can reveal them to me" sound like despite the hardships the protag of the song has gone through, he's using his grit and determination to support and help those he cares about. he isn't JUST surviving out of spite against the universe, he's surviving to help his loved ones no matter what life throws at him. it's sweet, really
This song is perfect to listen to when you are in a really bad mood, like the mood when your day is already a trainwreck dumpster fire drinking arsenic and it's only 7 AM. It has the perfect elements to fuel and subside your anger with some hatred and "I see no god other than me"
And it all comes back to you... from listening and watching shia labeouf years and years ago. to now watching the show Startup... you sir, YOU ARE AMAZING!!
Thanks for introducing me to Tally Hall, internet. I recently watched the Ultimate Tally Hall documentary, which let me see their journeys through time, and all of their side projects.
I love both all of my friends and I'm going to win I like to think all of my friends comes before I'm gonna win in a story! Like AOMF was about a dude dealing with 'demons' who kept putting him down and giving him false security, making him anxious and paranoid While IGW takes place a few years later when he's overcame his demons, because he's won. He's not gonna let the demons back even when they try to call him back with the same exact words (how do you feel, you've been concealing your worries from the world appears in both songs) 'demons' could be replaced with depression, toxic friends, toxic relationships, ect. Just a fun little thing I thought of
Thank you rob cantor for making the song that had been giving motivating me in the past 2 weeks Edit:Im getting that 3am motivation from this song again thanks rob cantor
Im here from a fnaf video an i was like this is very catchy an the voice sounds very familiar for some reason an then as i read the other comics i realized it was a member from tally hall so dat explains it
I wish I had realized sooner that this and Shia Leboeuf were the same artist. They’re two of my favorite songs of all time. I’m envious of your creativity’s range
I recently applied to my first job at the place I have always wanted my first job to be at, and they're not calling me back yet. This song gives me the hope and tenacity I need to keep going and not give up. Thanks Rob!
why does this song play in my head everytime i enter the class i start thinking im badass even though im just staring outside the window wondering what i would do after class
+E Gillis (Gilly) actually all the verses are nearly exact copies of the verses from said song. rob got permission from all his former bandmates to use them in this song
I come to this song every so often. When I’m at a low point, when I feel like I’m not good enough, when I’m not all together there. I use this as an anchor to start bringing myself back up.
Two possibilities: this song is about toxic positivity, someone is pretending like they’ve got it all together and project their inner pain and turmoil onto someone else. The other: this is just a feelgood motivation song, a power anthem if you will.
am i the only one who thinks this one is the more positive one? like all of my friends was about friends who manipulated you and had the “fake positivity” mentality. and that i’m gonna a win is about not caring about what they think and moving on. maybe i’m self projecting onto the songs idk
2:06 reminds me of the beat to ruler of everything, seems like Tally Hall really likes this guy How do you feel and Juno was mad and stuff its all so FAMIliAR
1:23 is to relatible man I really love this song and i really like the last part of the song too :D. I dont know what to write so yeah have a good one everyone and take care
Heard this at the end of a Startup episode and immediately looked it up because it sounded insane but never would have thought it was Rob's song how wild is that
Just found this after listening to "All of my friends". I feel conflicted with how this song changed so much, although, I prefer the tally hall version _hehe_
Am I the only one who thinks this is actually a kind of happy song? He's talking about how he'll "never give up" and "never give in". Maybe he's saying he'll never give in to evil and killing and stuff? I dunno, it's just what I think.
