Wolfgang Vallick Hawaii Part II just randomly appeared in my recommended (despite not really searching up any music on my account) and introduced me to Tally Hall.
It just hit me The first "Looking through glass eyes" segment shows footage of "Bobby" a young Rob, living his life, while the second "Looking through glass eyes" segment shows the same Rob, now as an adult, once again living his life, but of course showing contrast between his childhood and his present. How did I not realize this earlier? Idk, but I did.
2:22 I came so close to cry at this point of the videoclip, the television on the grave is like their past and when I realized it, became very much easier to understand the whole videoclip. Now after all that good memories, they will bring a "Good Day", with a beautiful friendship. Tally Hall is one of the best bands that I know and SHOULD come back!
Everybody forgets that the most annoying/time consuming thing wouldn't be all the filming they'd have to do. It'd be all the planning and editing to get all of the different players perfectly in sync while simultaneously getting all of the lipsyncing perfect. That must've been hell.
Electric Gengar well first of all, i only spelt thought wrong, second of all, i have big fingers and i was using an iphone to type that comment, and third of all, this was in february lad
Let it be known that in 2024 a shy 10 year old 4th grader came out of their shell to do a school presentation on this band all on their own. The reach is long.
I’m celebrating the new decade by playing “Fate of the Stars”, the last song Tally Hall ever made, on New Year’s Eve at around midnight. I’ll plan it so the end of the song is at exactly 12am, then immediately switch over to “Good Day”. Fate of the Stars will be the last song of the decade, Good Day will be the first song of a new one. edit: guys its been 3 years you can stop nitpicking the technicalities of whether or not fate of the stars is actually their last song now
it worked!!!! i’m thinking about posting the video, but it’s pretty much just five minutes of the songs playing with me crying and occasionally singing in the background
This is the kind of music video that had every reason to go viral back when it was released, yet 10 years later and it still hasn't gotten past a million views. This has production value and the music that deserves more recognition.
Having heard this song plenty of times but never seeing the music video, I have to say I am thoroughly impressed for a lot of reasons, but I want to focus on what hit me the hardest: It's a perfect nostalgic time capsule of what neighborhoods inside the USA actually looked like in the 2000s; All the different CRT TVs and digital devices the stills cut to; the home video footage of everyday activities; the vibrant COLORS; but also around the 1:22 mark it also has a montage of what the average home would have playing on TV at the time; satirizing Pro Wrestling, workout videos, reruns of Bob Ross, black-and-white Movies, reruns of tv shows from the 50s through the 80s, Infomercials, Cooking shows; etc and so forth. This is video isn't just art, it's window into the past of when it was made.
There are thousands of bands that people call “the next Beatles” but tally hall is probably the only one deserving of it, the differing styles and tone of their albums reminds me so much of the Beatles later in their career
Did you know that while they were recording this at Rotary park in Michigan, Joe (Red tie) and Zubin (Blue tie) were mugged and beaten up, which that event also inspired Joe and Zubin to make the song "Rotary Park" just a li'l bit of trivia
i watched this every single day for a solid 4 months. i would take time out, even during school, just to watch it. it fills me with so much genuine happiness. the idea is so creative, and it was beautifully executed. tally hall will never cease to amaze me
Every time I see this music video I get new crazy ideas from it. The first few times I was like "This is an ode to someone who only ever experienced life through the television, and in that sense they only lived as the characters on their TV" But now I'm like "This is the unification of humanity, all of our experiences and stories fusing into a gestalt that is broadcasted to everyone, and we collectively are becoming one mind who shares all experiences. Death of the individual is something that should be grieved but our experiences are more immortal now than ever"
Not So Fun Fact That You Probably Already Knew: During the filming of this music video, they went to Rotary Park where they got mugged and had some of their equipment stolen. Joe Hawley (Red Tie) ended up bleeding from the mouth, and Zubin Sedghi (Blue Tie) ended up with a black eye. Joe Hawley would then make a song seven years later about the incident titled "Rotary Park" and even tried to sell the bloodied-up shirt and tie he wore when the incident occurred.
Who's the gray one? I love him. He's always got that blank, dead look in his eyes. Edit: i commented when i was 12 and 5 years later theres still ppl telling me who he is lmaoo. good to know this community's still active at least
@@MinaWalkerdid the teacher not want to do it or did you guys try it and it didn’t work? I imagine it would be pretty hard to get a choir to learn it - it is pretty complicated if the singers aren’t used to 5 part harmony!
I am over 55 years old and I have never heard of tally ho until my grandson who is 13 play them for me. I couldn't believe I was here in one song I heard the first three notes and I said that's Shine On You Crazy Diamond my Pink Floyd. Andrew you got a great taste in music I can't believe you know all of Pink Floyd and a band named tally ho that I never heard of and I love music you know you got a rocking grandma
Edit: since I've been corrected about 5 morbillion times, I'll just put this disclaimer here saying this isn't actually how it went down, I was wrong "nothing goes right in its time" Hits different when considering that they disbanded because no one liked their music, and now it's being rediscovered.
@@joshuukun anytime i sing this song i seem to always bend the lyric from "have" to "had" knowing the present state of affairs of tallyhall and its members. sad day.
Can I just say that this band has literally gave me a reason to live? They make me so extremely happy inside, and inspire me to do something with my life. If they decide that they aren't gonna come back, then I respect their option. They've given their fair share of music. I really love these boys, even if I am late to the party, I still consider them my favorite band. Lets be glad the fandom is small and loving, honestly I don't know what I'd do with myself if they were mainstream.
never really thought about it but this video made me realize that most modern music videos suck so much, no personal touch, or originality to any music videos these days
the way the camera warped around the tv monitor is rly captivating, and then when it ends they get rid of it right at the end and the screen takes up the whole lens so the whole thing is warped. just a little detail i like
Gotta be one of the most fun and creative music videos I’ve seen in a while-and with a minimal budget, too (at least compared to today). Honestly love these fellas.
Tally Hall was both ahead and behind their time. This gives me Beatles Vibes with some Weezer and Queen mixed in there, and that’s a huge complement. Tally Hall, come back... please
theres rumors they may come back togethor at some time during 2026-2028, because some of the members left to finish college it may take more or less time.
Yeah this band is great. I'm kinda sad I found out about them so late and that so few people know about them Some of the songs are just really funny and weird (like Two Wuv, Mucka Blucka, and Banana Man) and some are interestingly artistic and beautiful (like Spring and a Storm and Taken for a Ride) but they're all so great Good band 11/10 always recommend
Tally Hall. It burns me to know that these guys are so underrated, wish they were up there. But to be fair, maybe them being on this level of popularity makes them so special?
Googled Lyrics: I'd like to say hello and welcome you Good day that is my name Come here and sit down I'm so glad you even really truly came We can even go and take a walk or something like that or something like that But first I need to introduce my what and introduce my when Let us sing! (Ahh, ahh ahh) Its name I like to call it likes to say it's nothing (it's nothing) It lives and breathes and it insists that it insists that it is something (it's something) It never liked to speak or run or walk or sleep or eat (oh-ee oh-ee oh) It even thought that everybody tried to thought to take its seat Looking through glass eyes Give it a few tries Nothing goes right in its time Kill all its bad dreams Wonder 'bout no things Circles and spirals in mind But we know that this song is not about a no or yes or why What's really truly what I say is that about a little sigh So come along I think I'm done I think we're done yes this is done What's truly that I think about it and it thinks about a ton Let us sing! (Ahh, ahh ahh) Looking through glass eyes Giving a few tries Nothing goes right in its time Kill all its bad dreams Wonder 'bout no things Circles and spirals in mind I thought you knew I knew but Why and by and why and by and by I wanted you to know I thought you knew but Why and by and why (Everyone loves a potato monkey... I stepped in gum! I stepped in gum! Ohoho! -- -- -- If you have two scissors and a computer, then you can...) Let us sing! Birds and bees and television Cardboard houses, x-ray vision Many little silly rhymes Things forgotten lost their times Telephones and silly games Periods and lots of question marks
@@stinkystinkypoopystinkypeepee erm,, explain this then!!1! 2:30 🤨☝☝ /j nah but in all seriousness, sucks that they've technically broken up, guess we'll just wait and see
Tally hall songs are definitely the best but can we talk about their music videos? It's one of the most interesting concepts and aesthetic that gives alot more to their songs
this is my favorite one by a long shot, gives a feeling of ease as all the shots are beautifully articulated, just an amazing video to accompany with charming vocals and beats to nod your head to
"Looking through glass eyes, give it a few tries! Nothing goes right in its time." From that, along with the video's aesthetic, I'd say they're implying the timeless nature of the television, and how it gives you such interesting views of life. By peering through the glass of the screen, you're seeing the world in new ways, through different people and eras... it's a cool message.
One of my favorite parts of Tally Hall is how timeless their music is. Everyone becomes a fan of Tally Hall at a different time and they still love them all the same, and I think that’s incredible.
me too. But I heard a rumor saying that the band is currently on a long hiatus or they broke up. Who knows? I will wait to see if the band gets back together from the hiatus or they did actually broke up but they didn't told anyone because, their last video was 4 years ago. Tally Hall is one of my least favorite bands out there.
This is their greatest song and an absolute masterpiece of whatever you call this genre. It is so difficult to make a piece like this where each is so unique and yet every part is catchy. It is sophistication and catchiness all in one. It is a unicorn of a song. It captures the emotion and the fun alike of youth. It is nostalgic and upbeat at the same time. This whole album was absolute perfection. 10/10. May be my favorite album of all time and this is the greatest song on the album. May posterity put laurel upon laurel on this band's reputation.
They were pretty up and coming, this song actually got a lot of exposure around the time of release, however after their (still ongoing) hiatus they vanished into obscurity before they could make it big. Though they are getting a resurgence and they may be releasing a third album in the near future! Fingers crossed!!
@@malberri3442 thank you for not being mad that i didnt know who it was. i might be addicted to their music but i still dont know who each of them are lol
I remember listening to you guys all the time in 5th through 6th grade when I was going through a very tough and very painfully awkward time and never telling anybody about you because I was afraid they’d think I was weird. Now everybody’s talking about Hawaii Part 2 and “introducing” me to the band and I can’t tell them I’ve already known about you for years without sounding like a pretentious asshole or seeming like a gate keeper. Kind of hurts, but I’m glad you’re at least beginning to get the recognition you deserve, even if it means you’ll never again be that secret little gem me and lots of other people found years ago.
I feel that so much I accidentally shared a song by tallyhall on some bluetooth speakers and now my siblings know all of the flipping songs I would be really proud of tally hall if they went big, but i want them to stay my little gem as much as possible, as long as possible. when artists go big, and ive watched it happen, it just feels basic and not well fun to listen to Fvcking love tallyhall, and i hope they get back together The hiatus is too long, brother
Oh tally hall...we won't let time forget about you...we're all still here. Waiting for you to return...take your time...we'll wait till you're ready to come back
