EPISODE 171
In this episode we finally step Tally Ho’s mast! But first, there’s a lot of work that needs to be done on the spreaders, attaching them to the mast and making brackets to hold the radar, VHF, lights, and more.

you need some sort of engraving of poncho on the boat , maybe with the names of all the volunteers and boatwrights around it to commemorate the rebuild. it has been an epic voyage so far arguably as historic as the boat its self.

Leo, I've had a look at pictures of Tally Ho's historical gaff rigging ( no clear, close-up detailed photos I could find). When I saw your newly installed mast with the bow-facing white "H" shaped protrusions about 3/4 of the way up, I thought: "Hey, they installed the mast backwards. Isn't that supposed to be the attachment point hardware for the main gaff-rigged sail? Shouldn't that be aft-facing?" Please explain to me how I am wrong. What is that for? Thank you.

@manfredagne6738
@manfredagne6738 6 месяцев назад
@@lawrenceallen8096Those "protrusions" will secure the (lower end of) the topmast. Traditionally, and I assume for very practical reasons too, the topmast sits forward of the lower mast. I'm not sure about yachts, but in larger sailing vessels, the upper masts can be lowered by the crew when preparing for bad weather. With the gaff and boom at the aft side of the mast, the topmast needs to go down (and up) at the fore.

Dude, as a former rigger, this video totally hit me in the feels. I remember how many customers we had to persuade to pull the mast instead of going aloft several times to replace standing rigging. Several years ago I reached out to you about the rigging and you introduced me to Ian. I was watching this with my son this afternoon and I told him that I should've been there. I'm SO happy with the progress you've made over the years. It feels like it was only yesterday that you were ripping the ribs out of the old hull. Watching the work on the spreaders really made me miss my days with Ryan Nelson at the rig shop. Some of the best years of my life.

I‘ve been following Tally Ho from day 1, well, the first video that is. WHAT a transformation, what a milestone! What years of work, wisdom and professionalism put into this project, all the things learned and achieved, all the people who put in their knowledge and effort. And now look at her! YES there‘s lots to do still. But she’s back to being a boat, with a mast! For someone who‘s seen the 1$ purchase and the state she was in at the time, this is nothing short of a miracle, and I guess it’s the same for Leo and the crew. Huge congrats from across the pond, keep it up guys, you have basically now turned onto the finishing straight 💪🏻🚀

For your back pain: Run a hot bath. Put one pint of epsoms salt in the bath a🎉nd dissolve. Get in the bath ( with a clock on the side) submerge so neck and head above water. When the clock reads 45 minutes (very important 45 minutes) stand up. Your body will be translucent, having absorbed the magnesium into your skin outside in. You will then go to bed and will sleep without pain for over eight hours. When you awake your energy levels will be high and pain free. Everybody should know this little gem. I've been watching since you went to Georgia and it's a pleasure to see this event. I knew then you were going to finish this job but I didn't know it would take so long. It was a little like when the ballast keel was poured, one of those milestones: Getting the flitches, getting the lumber for the keel and the planks, setting up the ship saw. Even the failed attempt to pour a ballast keel turned into the best keel possible for you. Your channel is the best one on RU-vid, it's smashing. The wait for the next video is always anticipated and good to see it when it gets here. We're watching what is likely to be the best built gaff cutter in history. Sans a 12 pounder crashing through the galley, Tally Ho will live another 112 years.

Me imagino la alegría de todo el equipo al ver el izado del mástil y depositarlo en su lugar. Otra etapa terminada. Bravo.

I'm so proud and happy. My donation paid about one day's operating cost and that was in the old days. I do feel like part of the team. Milestone, hell you can smell the sea from the deck, I've got frikken goosebumps! I may live to do shots over the bow!!! Again. ( Going forward, I will calulate the value of my donation over the whole build time. It's safe to claim I bought lunch).

Absolutely the peak (well, the real peak will be the touch into the water) after so many days of work. I am super happy to see this. Lots of greetings from Germany for this amazing thing. Breathtaking

Wow, Tally Ho just looks extraordinary. The work you have all done on this boat is just amazing and the channel is just so interesting to watch - every week I learn something new (like the coins this week - really interesting and a great choice of coins). It's going to be so cool when it splashes and to see you all take her on her maiden voyage. Definitely one of my favorite channels on RU-vid (and I am a motovlogger, lol). Don't eat Pancho!!!! lol

Pancho would be a tough old bird to eat. Here in Australia there is a resipe for cooking a Galah (a galah is a small Australian cockatoo with a gray back and rosy pink head and underparts, a real pritty bird) The Resipe: Pluck out as many fethers as you can, place the bird in boiling water allong with a stone abouut the same size as the bird. Simmer for 12 hours, tip out the water and the bird and eat the stone.

That mast looks terrific Leo & it's really great seeing it finally become part of the vessel! As a continued supporter of this amazing project, I recently sent in another donation, I would urge anyone that hasn't done so to consider donating as well! Thanks & Tally Ho! 👍👍

Like a new car on the showroom floor - Tally Ho images when freshly finished looks great. Nice views to capture: 14:06; the entire sunset segment: 17:35 - 18:53. Looking great, Leo & crew!!

Given Port Townsend's geographic setting, looking toward water is looking generally eastward. Eastward = rising sun, so this was probably a spectacular sunrise--terrific catch by "a boatbuilder and a sailor" and a videographer.
