Rules Edit: Life Siphon: the model receiving the life needs to be within 6'' of the TARGET not the Acolyte (not that this mattered - but still the more you know) Acolyte: Can't cast Fireblast AND Life Siphon (even with Mallign Scripture) as they are both 'shoot' actions so cannot be performed twice. Reap - damage from Reap only affects 'Other' models visible and within engagement range of the butcher..... making him worse than I thought....and I already thought he was pretty bad.
Quick rules thing. Reap should have done 4 mortals to your other guy when your leader charged. Mortals are applied immediately and regardless of strikes/parries and or saves.
@@chrisessick7192 No, it's "when you strike with a crit", so you need to actually deal damage. If it was like you say, it would be "when you retain a crit".
Some corrections: Wrathful Onslaught doesn't turn your die into a crit; it allows you to strike with a normal die as if it was a crit. The difference is that it only works for the purpose of damage as crit effects - it still can't parry crits and it can be parried with a normal hit. However, you can declare this when striking, you don't have to preemptively select one particular die to be a crit. It wouldn't have made a difference there, but still. Reap doesn't work on the main target of the attack, only on other enemies within the specified range. In that fight with Butcher, the Spear guy should've survived.
You cannot cast Life Siphon and Fireblast on the same activation, because both are Shoot actions (regardless of being free) and Operatives, normally, cannot do the same Action more than once per activation.
Great Batrep. Would suggest using Aegis of the Emporer with Custodes. Turning all crit damage to normal damage for entire turning points is huge for their durability. Also turn 2, I would’ve moved the wounded Spear boy forward and shot both the Plasma gunner and the leader - looked like you had the movement economy. Also would’ve left the other spear on the vantage point to plink damage off of the anointed and butcher and then try to finish them off with the leader.

@@GFNGaming I’ve got enough chaos marines in general to field multiple types but I’m thinking specifically I’m going to focus on the shooting route first. I like the close combat specialists (shrive talon in particular) but I don’t think I’m skilled enough to really use elite close combat teams- taking wounds during your own activation with so few models is tough. Having said that I will still absolutely be showcasing a melee team at some point.

We’ve been messing about with letting a charged model react with a parry. So rather than just having to take that first hit, the charged model can spend one of their successes to cancel the hit. Same goes for the charging model on the next round. Makes melee less deadly and makes it possible for a severely wounded model to survive a charge that would otherwise be an automatic kill. Small modification that has a huge effect on how the games go.
The biggest difference is that you don’t get the auto kill with no strike back on a model with , say, 5 or less wounds left. The real downside is that a weak model can more easily tie up a stronger operative.

Apart from the rule corrections, I believe on T2, you could have made the Custodes leader charge in such a way as to be able to shoot his gun on the Anointed after the combat using his 3rd APL. A kill would be unlikely but even a few wounds down could change their upcoming battle significantly
Yeah that annoying after the combat ended I intended to shoot the annointed but was out of range and as we'd already removed the butcher we couldnt tell if i could of gotten within range during the charge so it was definiteyl a mistake - I agree it might not have done much but in terms of good play i should of been able to do something.
I havent been so kill team-aktive for a few months now, but this batreps you do are fenomenal! Might need to do some more killing and teaming in the near future!

The Custodes with the shield that died in turn 2 only shot once even though you played Peerless Warriors. Probably could’ve put more damage on the Chosen with a second volley of fire. The Chaos player’s dice were on fire. Great battle report overall.
Cheers man, yeah think he rolled like 5 out of 6 FNPs at one point. He had to move and dash to get within circle, but to be fair the entire move was altogether not smart.
This was a joy to watch! I am glad I found your post leading me here from reddit. I am a strange one, as I only own custodes models. They're the only army I have played and i started in 8th. They are the only GW models I have ever purchased. I have 8k points of custodes painted for 40k, and play a ton of kill team. I've ran kill team tournaments and I also participate in a kill team league. When I play custodes I only use 4 custodes and I never take sisters. In my humble opinion, as a custodes only player, all spears is the best way to go. Which is unfortunate because the sword and shield is my favorite model. Until the shields get a small buff of any kind, they are not worth it. Spears keep custodes deadly in every turn and phase of the game and really help with the overwatch phase.
You should take 2-4 shields into compendium guard lists, they will almost always run double plasma and double melta into custodes, so you need the invulns to deal with the ridiculous AP.
I like the sheilds for combat - being able to parry x2 but it does mean you really sacrifice a few rounds of shooting to the spear and arguably with the hight wound count they can take the few extra hits they'll get. Id like to try sisters i think it would be an interesting list to add a SOS fire team
I don't see this corrected in the comments already, but the Butcher wouldn't have been able to use "Unending Bloodshed" when he was killed, as he had activated already and so wasn't a "ready friendly KHORNE operative". I think the ploy is meant to be an "Only in Death" for melee, essentially to compensate for losing the activation if he hasn't gone yet.
Love your batreps! Aside from all the good suggestions in the comments, one thing I haven't seen is to replace the equipment with Oath Parchment or whatever the free Reroll equipment is. Let's you reroll untimely 1s and still have CPs for Aegis of the Emperor and Peerless Warriors, your bread and butter that should always be played turn 2.
I haven't played custodes but I've played a lot against chaos/legionaries and I feel you need to maximize your damage whilst wasting your opponents APL if you're playing into a bigger team. One example I'd pick is your custodes who got shot by the plasma who had 2 wounds left could've wasted another of your opponents activations had you rerolled that save, a 5/6 chance to make your opponent use up another of their limited fight or shoot actions would probably benefit you make than saving a cp for later
Yeah, I agree. Not sure why I didn't but looking back I feel like I definitely should have tried. It's a smart plan playing to waste the opponent's APL.

legionair play really well !! a deserve victory !!! and because i am bored with how OP custodes are against a team that has 0 or almost none AP weapon.
I mean hopefully when they get their specialist team they can make them feel a bit more like they should, Unless they go for a more rounded team - but even if its a team with SOS and the option to take 2 custodes having them bumped to 4APL might not be OP
Saw this coming in this vs. Custodes basically NEED their shields to not get clapped by power weapons. A 2 shield custodes with 5 sisters team might have done better. With the shield boys moving up carefully untill they can try and sty in perma combat, with the sisters holding objectives and doing some light shooting (did basically this exact fight but playing scions vs custodes, all scions lived, zero custodes did..) All this said, love the episode. Problem with custodes is that with this little models, every little slip up will cost you. To play the perfect warriors of the emperor, one nearly has to play as perfect as they want to be..
I really like the idea of getting some SOS in there - think a fire team of them with a custodes one would be nice. From what i hear though the custodes end up being ran like distractions and you score with the sisters. Would love to try it
Does anyone know how the rules work for low heavy terrain when people are on vantage points? Do the cover lines get drawn base to base through the air, rather than across the ground?
My nephews and I are getting into kill team and we're looking for our kill teams now. Battlescribe and Wahapedia show custodes only get 2 operatives in a fire team. I'm confused because every batrep with them I see, they always bring 4. Someone help a noob out plz
Hey yolkii, happy to clear this up. Some kill team get to take multiple 'fire teams' - most of the compendium teams in fact i think the only exception to this are the space marine teams only get 1 fire team per kill team. So you can mix and match.
Kinda new to kteam but don't custodes get that tac ploy arcane genetic alchemy.. It could have helped the first Custodian who got shot by the plasma gunner?
