I am without words. This is wonderful. Because i am a teenager i normally dont listen to Folk music but with this song i discovered my love for folk music.!!!
I'm really not one to loop songs since repetition bores me very easily. HOWEVER, I've been looping this song for the past three hours with almost no pauses and I can't get enough of it!
Hey, PeakFiddler! Im an African-American male. Im 66 years old, and I've just now taken up learning how to fiddle! Your "Cooley's Reel" video ( and your 2 instructional videos on how to play C. R.) has inspired me to learn how to fiddle! I know its gonna take me awhile to master C.R. I've already memorized and can play the first line of C.R., but my timing is waaaaay off, and needs serious practice🤣. Once I've learned "Cooley's Reel", "Tam Lin" is next. Stay tuned!! ~Ken B.
Peakfiddler, I offer my sincerest gratitude for this most elevating version of yours. You made me literally cry out of joy while dancing to this and I still simply can not get enough!!!
I re-recorded this and put it on all the streaming platforms, including spotify. You might like to take a listen to the new version. open.spotify.com/track/6FXE3a0GTkvlIc4XhE2sDt?si=5d0d4f744a704d59
I love seeing this man playing. It is not only that he is fantastic fiddler. Talent only is not enough. U have got to have equally a beautiful soul to produce such music. There is lots of soul in this performance as well as talent :)
Peakfiddler, you are a connection between ancient and modern violin and fiddle playing...I LOVE your sound, rhythm, technique, style and all the beautiful detail you bring to this music. It is a smile I will carry with me all day : )
Gorgeously played. Full of musical tension, rhythmic anticipation and swing. Nice tempo, allowing (were it session play) other players to assimilate the tune. Guitar nicely in the offbeat, matching Irish dancer's downweighting.
I don't know how to put this, but this is probably my preferred reel and I have to say that your interpretation is by far the one that moved me the most, despite the fact I've been spending far too much time listening to it, interpreted by various musicians. I discovered your channel a few days ago and I'm still amazed by your work. I've been raised in a family where Irish folk songs accompanied our growth, and what I'm hearing right now sounds to me like the soul of Ireland asking me to pick my fiddle and start playing, though I'm not Irish at all. I started learning violin with classical music and almost gave up. That's when I started fiddling and few are the things able to put a smile on my face like struggling while learning a reel, or playing in a pub during a session can. Your videos just remind me of theses times and what I missed while not playing for years, and I finally started playing again. Thank you and keep the hard work, through your tutorials and interpretations you really are giving people both motivation and joy
Wow! Absolutely amazing...Your face said it all at the end!! I can only dream of becoming that good. Think I probably would of fallen off the stool. Thank you! You are an inspiration.
Love this tune and how you play it ! This is the best of TamLin version I've heard. This is a great and exhausting challenge you offered us (this end of video is a proof of it lol). Thanks for sharing !
Absolutely brilliant. I find Tam Lin a truly hypnotic tune, but this version is entrancing. I'm playing it on banjo but your amazing take on the Glasgow Reel makes my efforts sound like a very slow air! Thanks for sharing this. Subscribed immediately.
Could not agree more, the first time I heard this I thought "a reel? Surely not". My efforts on guitar and mandolin would tend to match your "slow air"!! I love the tune.
First time I heard this tune was at the Michigan Renaissance Festival, played by a duo called Brollywacker, the main melody was played on a hammered dulcimer and their version started off quite relaxed, but with each repeat picked up the pace and it ended up quite the scorcher! This tune has been a favorite of mine now for over 30 years. I think this is the first time I've heard the tune expertly played on a fiddle.
I love Tamlin Reel, especially when played like this. This is my study tune, which is the best motivator next to the classical such as Strauss. Great key change too!
One of the best versions of this great tune I've come across - I always return to it from time to time. Other versions might be more 'polished', but this one simply has an excitement, drive and 'feel' (from great authentically 'folk' ornamentation, slides, bowing and everything else) that are perfect. Great backing too.
This tune is the BEST of all Fiddle registry... Thanks a lot Peakfiddler, I listen this record everyday since 2/3 months when I go to work in my car :-)
@@peakfiddler True! I have only recently started to try and learn how to play the violin, and I'm trying to get used to playing without a shoulder rest right from the beginning, too.
You've inspired me to take out my fiddles again after many years....I shall be practicing your tunes again..I used to play many of them ...wow ,you are really an inspiration..Thanks...👍
I have a cassette tape of a group called "The Melting Pot" that I purchased at the Dingle about 20 years ago...their medley starts with this tune, and I've always loved it
First recorded in 1979 by The Fureys and Davey Arthur on an album called Emigrant” known by the name of Tamlinn great tune!! thank you for your nice rendition of it, sounds lovely cheers 🪕🎶
Thank you for creating the very best ear worm that has taken over my every waking moment. I have even had to learn 2 new chords in order to attempt to play along (badly) on the guitar. It's fantastic, thank you. My favorite part is when the banjo comes in, and the key change, and everything else!
I'm here because we played some abridged version of this in school (I'mm a cellist of five or so years) and I wanted to find an authentic rendition. This blew me away.
You are very inspiring to both watch and listen to! Thank so much for making this video. While I do not play the violin, after watching you, would love ❤️ to learn it!
That sounds like a lifetime of discipline, practice, love and devotion packed into 3 minutes... incredible!!! Amazing!!! Thank you for uploading and sharing your work!!!
I am taking you with me (and my broom) to my gig at the Adult Day Care Center where I dance for the clients and lead them in sing along. Today I will put you up on the TV screen and dance the Traditional Irish Brush Dance to your sublime and exciting fiddling. Perfect dance tempo. Thank you!
This is a fantastic tune! Can't get it out of my head. Your music is addicting! So may tunes, so little time to learn them! Only started playing fiddle going on 6 years ago (at age 68) with some missed lessons and practice because of illness. Love your videos and such a variety of tunes. Many I have already learned but not able to get up to speed because of arthritic fingers. But not giving up! Thank you for sharing!
Yes, there is no doubt that playing the fiddle/violin is certainly a lot more strenuous than many instruments. Particularly, if you stand up to play. However, the plus side is the fact that it is also very good exercise and helpful as one grows older. Don't forget, that you can always slow down the videos using that little wheel symbol underneath the video window and there is nothing wrong with playing at a more sedate pace, I know I do it most of the time, well that's my excuse anyway, haha
How do you know you're watching a master? They do something you KNOW damn well is fiendishly difficult - and they make it look like they're just doodling about, and "anyone could do this, y'know . . . " Thank you, sir!!
Thank you so much for this beautiful tune. It's been in my short list of looped songs that I am learning for the flute and concertina. It is so fast and so perfectly satisfying - until I start trying to play along. Just based on the numbers, at first, by chance I hit about every 10th note. I decided to not take the easy way out and just gently drone a single low 'D' for the entire tune. I am slowly getting it. Very slowly. Today I discovered the Tam LIn of Carterhaugh melodic slower version which is also beautiful. More my speed, then I listened to the Jig version. Like that too! So my short list includes all three tunes. I'm also learning the violin but I'm not even ready to try the melodic version on that instrument. By the way... once you listen to Tam Lin; it's almost impossible for me to stop trying to silently sing it in my head. It's not even individual notes after a while, just one unbroken note sliding all over the place. How does he do that ?
Its also cool to sit back and say wow! this cat has skills. the way he draws that note at the top of the A part. And, feel that right before the key change? when he settled into the tune He was vibrating at just the right frequency. he has other moments where the feel is so real, but one stands out to me as the moment of the song . right about 1:25 through the whole turnaround and pegs a beautiful note at 1:35. I don't know the tech terms for his movements but, I love that shit man!
This is amazing! I dance and play, and this is true artistry on both fronts. Thank you for sharing! You've brought such a smile to my face and cheer to my heart, I'll probably be replaying this for the rest of the evening.
