2 Good things. 1: Some DIY head (Like me) will through a a piezo inside and convert it into electronic for sure. 2 You can use the toms to give water and food to your dog too (If you use them upside down)

I like the concept but the price is just too high, although I would maybe consider getting just the snare and kick pads if they're really good. Oh and there's also a brand new line of silent heads and cymbals from Evans that looks interesting!
@65Drums

If it cost less, or if it came with cheap cymbals at it's current price, I could see lots of people buying it. I wonder what kind of sales Tama is getting with their current strategy.

I can’t see that these things would be flying off the shelves? Neat concept but WAY too expensive!!! I’ve only heard these in videos, but they seem really loud? I’m really interested in seeing more reviews on Evans new line of practice heads and low volume cymbals. Plus what they offer just goes on your existing kit so no need for extra stands, pedals, hardware etc.

@@drumfanatik316 The problem with buying like a evans db one mesh heads is that when u put the heads on your acoustic kit to practice then sudenly one day you need your drum kit coz maybe yur going on a gig or u need to play it with a band then u need to take of your evans db one heads and put back the real drum heads all over again..... so I prefer this Tama True Touch kit than buying a Mesh heads for practicing.

Glad you tried these out buddy. I have the aquarium super pads for years now. Put them on my kit and feel great. With all the diy over the years with electronics, which is great to be able to do, sometimes superpads and mics is just very satisfying. electronics and modules that just can’t accomplish practicing stuff. But i still luv DIYing the kit 👍 Anyway great video jason .

A Roland TD-01DMK is going to be cheaper in the end AND give you all mesh heads (and give you, you know, actual sound if you want it). I can't possibly see how Tama can justify that price. Edit: And the True Touch has an MSRP of a grand. I know MSRP is a meaningless marketing thing, but that's downright offensive at that point.

Thanks for the review Justin! Could you also please do a review of the Tama Soft Sound rings? They came out years ago now and it's almost spooky how there's almost nothing on RU-vid about them.
@Sn00ze
@Sn00ze 2 года назад
For what it's worth, I've been using the soft sound beater (the full size one) on my acoustic kit pretty much every day for over a year now I think, and it's pretty good overall. It doesn't feel like a regular beater at all since it's really light and much larger, but it's very quiet compared to a real beater. I wouldn't recommend it to play metal or double pedal but it does the job otherwise. For the rings, I haven't tried the Tama ones specifically, but I tried to make my own using a soundoff mute, it''s not the same thickness but they're a lot cheaper. From my DIY experiment, it doesn't seem to significantly reduces the volume, it's more like a dead/heavily muffled sound. Maybe Tama uses a different kind of material that really works but I'd be sceptical.

I saw a review on the Evans db line. Seems way more practical than this. You’re not sacrificing your set up or having to buy extra stands and pedals or have to take them off of your kit. I’m seriously looking into the db set up since I moved into an apartment. From the reviews, the person said he was in his studio with the door open and his wife couldn’t hear him playing down the hall!!! The Tama practice set seems like it would be very loud?
@halfhumanhalfalien7713
@halfhumanhalfalien7713 Год назад
@@drumfanatik316 I think Tama True Touch is more practical. Unless you have 2 acoustic drum sets that u dont need to take off the evans db one every time you need your real drum heads cause yur gonna play your drums with a band or outside. With this Tama true touch you can just practice with it at home and just use your real acoustic drums when u play on a band no need to unscrew lugs and switch to different drum head
@drumfanatik316
@drumfanatik316 Год назад
@@halfhumanhalfalien7713 it really depends on the setting. For instance, I live in an apartment complex and the Tama true touch would be way too loud. So in my situation the Evans DB line would work better. I am fortunate enough to have an extra kit and the Yamaha EAD, that I can mic the kit up with triggers and still have everything I need for practicing, including the real feel of a drum set as opposed to hard rubber pads or electronic drums.
@halfhumanhalfalien7713
@halfhumanhalfalien7713 Год назад
@@drumfanatik316 yur right but the thing about acoustic drums with db one head is that the snare is gona be loud still if u do rim shots unless yur gona use a rubber rim.
@drumfanatik316
@drumfanatik316 Год назад
@@halfhumanhalfalien7713 they’re not that loud at all. I have no complaints from my neighbors. But I’ve played the Tama kit, and they’re about as loud as playing on 5 gallon plastic buckets! And the snare on that is much louder than the Evans. On top of that, if you look at the price point of the two, the Evans just makes more sense. To me anyway. With the Tama, you would still have to buy the hardware, and the low volume cymbals. All said and done, you’re looking at about $1000 or more for some plastic and rubber! The whole set of DB’s with the cymbals, is $500. Of you take in account you already have a kit and hardware to put them on, you’ve already saved $500!!! 😅😅😅

What kind of mufflers are those at 4:30? I saw them in another video being put on and taken off the drums but there was no info on them. I want something that'll bring the volume of the drums closer to practice pads and those looked like they might be better at that than the rubber disc mufflers. I wish there was something like the real quiet drum pads that you could put on top of your drums without them bouncing or sliding off. So that's why when I saw those things going over the rims, thought they might be something like that. Has anyone seen something like that?

I bought some of those "low volume cymbals cuz I got to where I , build all my own electronic stuff ...aside The Roland TDW-1 TD10 Extended, DM MKII Pro (Roland MIDI'ed via daisy chain through the ALESIS MODULE, I converted a 14 inch tom to a mesh pad kicker and the rest is just basically the DM MKII PRO with some additional upgrades, like trick drums accessories and what not, and I buy broken ALESIS 10,12, 14 PAD and fix em' cheap.... But... But.... My main reason for a response is those cheap ass low volume cymbals... Im using 2 12" low volume for my remote hi hat right now till Im done manufacturing my dual and triple triggers ( all diy trigs so its taking me a lil longer to gettin' around to it , Im a procrastinator and Star Citizen got fun all the sudden) These group of cymbals I got suck donkey nuts brah..., might as well be bangin' on mamma's pots and pans, might actually sound better, Im not F'n kiddin' Yo, I cringe on closed hits, got this funny vibrato... funky resonance sound that rings for F***Me ever... Yuuuuk! So... do yourself a favor if you can afford it go high or go middle of the road at least, just sayin Yo ;) Stay Groovy Dudes

This would be fun for about 6 mins. Then I'd crave noise. Waste of a perfectly good hardware to not have sensors for DIY modules or DAW integration. 84.6% noiseless, non midi drum kit that wont allow upgrade. I mean, how much are sensors anyway? Especially bought in bulk..
@jas_bataille
@jas_bataille 2 года назад
I love this but : 1) The price is way too high for the kit to not have some sort of practice cymbal included. Given the excellent quality/price ratio of Tama "budget" lines of acoustic drums, I expected the kit to come with the cymbals *and* the hardware. Over 100 bucks for each pad, given they're not electronic, is simply too much, even tho I understand this is a new technology. 2) Why, oh why is that snare drum not available separately...?! Most working drummers like me don't need a full practice kit, just a great practice pad at home + studio rental on the side. In this economy, I even try to only play in clubs that features a proper house kit - and usually they are by far your best bet on getting paid decently anyway. I would be more than content with the snare only. 3) Why not offering an electronic version is beyond me. Piezos are super-cheap and Tama have put more thoughts on engineering those than most compagnies would do an e-kit, or at least give the option. But I appreciate that Tama consistently push innovative ways of making "basic" things like pads and those are sold-out everywhere, so maybe I'm just not the right target audience and drummers who don't have any studio space might perfectly happy with this!

I’ve been a die hard Tama fan for 25+ years. I’ve played many different drum brands over the years but I’ve never spent my own money on anything other than Tama. That being said this practice set is complete trash. The snare drum is the best part and it’s mediocre at best. At least it sounds half way good with the metal beads for a decent snare sound. The toms are completely dead and sound like crap. And the bass drum pad feels nowhere close to the real thing. Not to mention it doesn’t even come with everything you need. Let’s say you already have all the hardware you need with a snare stand, hihat and cymbal stand, bass drum pedal and a throne. Well you still need the cymbals. You can get the Zildjian L80 ride crash and hihat set for like $400 and the set is $500-600. So you are looking at $900-1000 if you already have all the hardware. Or you can get the Zildjians used for like $225-250. Even then you are going to spend $725-850. All for a set that doesn’t feel or sound anything like a real acoustic set. Just doesn’t seem worth it in my opinion.
