I have a 6 yr old potted Tamarind tree that I take inside during the winter as it is in a 8b zone. Without any bonsai skills, I would like to prune it down some as it is getting too large, and maybe put a mild bonsai approach to it (don’t want to damage the plant with lack of skill). 1) is it OK to prune before winter? How much can it handle? 2) How long before it flowers? Thanks

1) you could technically prune whenever. However, i like to see it start to grow new growth after i prune so i will prune when it is active. When you bring it inside, if you are about to provide enough light for the tree to continue to be active then theres no issues. In MN with south facing windows i still had an active tree and when i pruned i got new growth right away. 2) 6 year old trees can begin to start producing flowers but that can depend on many different factors and a tree grown inground usually will produce flowers earlier than ones in pots and will also grow faster. And this applies to trees from seed and not grafted. You can help promote flowering by providing your tree with a fertilizer high in phosphorus. Hope this helps. Cheers my friend!

@@Horticulture_Warrior Thanks, just subscribed to your channel. I also have two Acerola, or West Indian Cherry (Malpighia emarginata) plants same age I am doing the same to. The climate you maintain these zone 10+ plants in are impressive.
