An inbox review from Paul of the much adored Tamiya P-51D in 1/32 flavour. This is meant to be the best all round kit on the market at the moment - supposedly even better than their newest offering, the Corsair!
I was never into aircraft modelling as a kid. But my love of WW1 - WW2 aircraft obviously led me to scale. I built about 3 1:72 scale models but never liked how small they were. Lack of detail and no challenge for an adult. I went onto 1:48 scale and built Tamiya's F4U -1 Birdcage Corsair. A little scratch built extras made all the difference and i never looked back. Personally think Tamiya are the best, but ive only used Revell and Airfix so i may be wrong. Not put together any 1:32's yet. Nice looking Mustang:) I just ordered a 1:24 scale Hurricane! (Sweet) Nice vid thumbs up.
great review.. i also have this kit in my stash along with 3 other 1/32 ww2 tamiya kits.. i cant bring myself to build one because then its gone.. lol .. by the way i almost fell out of my chair when you said "dont stick the decals to your face" lmfao
I don't believe that's a "Red Tail". It has red on the tail but I think a true "Red Tail" has the whole tail red. This one has red on the tail. Yea those C/B models kinda looked like a spitfire. Couldn't agree more. Have fun...
Great review man, it's a fantastic kit, but the box art isn't a "Red Tail". But I don't know why they never released a 1:32 Tuskegee P-51, they made a 1:72nd and 1:48th special edition. Have fun with it, it's a fantastic kit, I'd build one again but I'm still burned out from the first one lol :D
Cheers buddy, it does have a red tail though lol ;) Yeah I'm looking forward to building this, currently got the 1/32 tamiya corsair and F-16 on the bench so ill enjoy this one too
Yeah I don't know why they did it only in the 1/72 and 1/48 scale in matter of fact when I do get the paints online I will be doing a 1/48th scale Taymiya Red tailed P-51 D Mustang
Different versions of the P-51D Mustang had different styles of the canopy hood . Some version had what they call a "blown hood , which means more head room . Thank you .
P-51C with the RAF and the RCAF flew this aircraft equipped with the Malcolm canopy hood . Thank you . The C version in RAF and RCAF markings nice looking aircraft , 2nd Tactical Airforce 1943 to1944/1945 , France . Thank you once again .
Thanks for the clip of the ole bird flying. I love the sound of that supercharged Merlin. P-51..... the Cadillac of the sky. One thing I noticed is that you kept saying "stencils". You do realize that decals and stencils are two very different animals? I have actually used stencils before from a stash my dad had from his days working as the Art Director at Sentai. In some ways I think they are better than decals. One way is that, since they are rubbed on, you can easily apply them with a chipping affect. But in some ways they are harder to deal with because if you don't secure the backing well it can slip and mess up the alignment and once it's rubbed/burnished on it's not so easy to remove.
International Scale Modeller , got ya. I just wasn't paying close enough attention to the context. 🤓😉😜🤣 Sorry, I was watching this video while working on a 1:24 60's AA gas dragster model that has been a nightmare with alignment and fit & finish. Honestly, I need to stop watching your videos because each one adds another kit to my wishlist. 😜🤣 Seriously though, I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for taking the time to record and share them. Keep up the good work.
