Put the kettle on, this is a long review...lol An inbox video review of the highly anticipated new 1/32 super detailed aircraft from Tamiya. This kit is an absolute beauty...
I have had this kit in my stash for about seven or eight years now. Stumbled upon your review of it. I think it is time to break open this kit and start building this monster. Thanks for the inspirational review of the Tamiya Corsair. Cheers from Canada!
I/ve been researching the F4U for almost 8 years, and have purchased almost every reference book and drawings I have found. This even includes the 18 roll microfilm collection of factory drawings from the National Air and Space Museum. The poster included in the Tamiya kit has the most accurate fuselage outline I have found published to date! If only it were a larger drawing. It is clear that Tamiya really did their homework on this one. Scott
Excellent review man, I've very excited to build the Corsair, but I think I'm going to wait a year or so, I'm not too big a fan of the bird cage, and more partial to the standard version, but I'm still wanting this kit :) I build the Zero and am working on the P-51D and have got a Spit in the stash. You should build this kit man you'll have a lot of fun, the kits are a marvel of engineering and a beauty on the shelf. the instrument panel decals are on the other side and are reveled whenset :)
The black felt is nice but you ought to look into a ring light for the camera. They aren't very expensive, in fact I picked one up on amazon for $25 US and it works great. Thanks for sharing the inbox review. Tamiya has always been one of the best in the market. The only problem is those darn staples in the sprue bags. The F-4U Corsair is one of my favorite WWII aircraft. With the fine details, you can use Vallejo primer, but you have to thin it. I thin my primers and haven't had any issues with loosing details. You shouldn't be flooding anything anyway. But Vallejo primer sucks. I love the paints, but I've switched my primer to Stynylrez because no matter what I've tried I've had too many issues with Vallejo primer adhering to the styrene, even straight out of the bottle un-thinned. The Stynylrez is beautiful. The Tamiya decals are a bit thicker and brittle. I avoid that by making stencils and painting everything possible. It's not that hard and looks so much better and if you hit the area with hairspray before laying down the stencils you can get some great weathering/chipping too.
yah i saw that you figured it out later in the review.. sorry about that. And sorry for not mentioning before but 1st rate review!!! keep them coming.. cant wait to see a build log on the 1/32 corsair
