I did manage to get the hull road wheels and turret started several Months ago. But had to set everything aside up until last night. I've started back on it. And did some more turret build up in that area.
Yes you are right. It's a "white wash" type product that is temporary. I never new it was a chalk. Nice to know. I'm gona have to read up on that. Thank you!!
The tracks on mine kept cracking apart. Very annoying. I've repaired them with wire about 4 times now and used the skirts to hide the damage. I think the East German version was supposed to be the more accurate. There was some nice YT footage of East German t72's training covered in a whitish mud that's worth looking up.
@@Ricks135scalemodels Yep despite that its a good looking beast. Heres that link for the training ground footage. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8G_tKBwh3KQ.html
Hey Rick, looks like a very nice kit. As expected from tamiya. Looking forward to see your conversion, looks like an interesting project. Thanks for sharing, take care and keep up the good work my friend.
Looks like a great kit. I’m not sure what the most common representation was, but personally I like camo patterns more than single color. If there’s enough reference material to get a good idea of pattern and colors I would go for that. I’m not too sure about the winter camo though.
If you can get more researched pics of the camo DDR version, that would be great. Real curious about that one.. I would research the colors more as well. Shame about the split barrel. Someone has to make a metal barrel for it. I think Aber makes one. And I would replace the tracks with ones from Fruil or Master Club! Looking forward to this build!😀 Also there seems to be some kind of update kit for it made by Verlinden. It was available from Scale Hobbyist last I checked.
So far, all I can find is the museum one in a three color pattern. I was debating in the barrel and I like the track switch idea. The solid track is just not quiet right.
It goes together pretty easy. Good old reliable Tamiya. There are a couple other kits out there that are more accurate but I've never built them. You cannt go wrong here.
@@Ricks135scalemodels thanks. I am building a Panther A model. And have a G late model on order. Should be here in a week or so. But I've never built a Russian Tank. So I figured. Why Not.
I am a woman passionate about armored vehicles from all over the world. this {Tamiya} scale model has many omissions. mainly fuel transfer valves and wiring for smoke pots. I made this model; I had a lot of work {with parts made by myself} and the result is magnificent. however, this {Tamiya} model is a good basis for work.
I agree with you. I'm getting ready to start it and I have a lot of work correcting cheap shortcuts in the mold and adding parts not even done. I've been doing a lot of research to get it right and show respect to the machine and true design.
I think that model is pretty old. I think it was first released in the 80s, so it's based on photos and some publicly availlable material of the time. A lot of rather old soviet tank models have these problems. Glad to see that there are people commited to improving them! Soviet tanks need a lot of love especially those of the mid sixties and foward. The T-64s, T-72s and T-80s were so revolutionary at the time.
I completely agree. Its a nice foundation but it needs modifications. I'll be starting it the first week of January. I'll be posting updates on the progress.
@@philipped.r.6385 I am passionate about technology. what attracts me about this technology {the battle tank} is finding as much as to protect the crew and fighting as efficiently as possible. I have never been a soldier, I am Russian and I am flattered that you appreciate the armored vehicles of my country. apart from that; it's the technology that interests me and not war. in these festive times; Peace is more important than any technology combined. 🕊️
Hey Rick, I received the Tamiya T-72M1 kit in the mail yesterday. So hopefully here in the next few months, I can get started on it. Looking forward to trying some of the techniques I've learned from you.
Maybe you already know but the shape of the turret is a bit odd. Some people say Tamiya’s T-72 depicts a version with a T-72M turret and a T-72M1 hull. This version existed indeed but I think Tamiya simply did not get the shape right.
I'm not a t72 expert but now I'm going to do some research. This turret issue would not surprise me. I was also looking to possibly get a Zevda or Amusing hobby version
Yes. It was used by the East German (DDR) army or NVA. The research I've done so far says they used the T-72m. The model is if the Russian version but kit allows for the German version. I even found a picture of one with Bundeswehr insignia.
@@Ricks135scalemodels Says "East German" right in the title and I did not even read it! That reminds me, I still have not received my Leopard 1 yet. Probably my favorite tank. Have built 2 already but ready for another.
@@spiritualarchitect4276 no worries. 😄.. ill be doing some Lepoard 1's with is 70's and 80's run. I'm also maybe going to do some 50s and 60s stuff but thats down the road.
