It's the Tamiya BBX off-road RC buggy and it's all new from Tamiya for 2023! I'm a bit late covering it but I've used mine heaps already. Let me show you over this impressive and rather different offering from the big T!
(Big thanks to Simon for driving with me and tolerating my cameras!!)

Is very pretty. It can be a good economical and fun option for my collection. I think Kyosho also has this type of classic buggy. I'm going to see it.

The Kyosho Scorpion and Tomahawk have trailing arms on the back as well as on the front. I prefer Kyosho to Tamiya but I wish Kyosho had a conversion for the front suspension to a-arms

I'd love to see a a racing class with these on dirt with reasonably sized jumped. The old school buggy look is so cool

Nice video from you as always! It's a good overview how it works, and what its quirks are, definitely Tamiya's ball differentials are annoying... I will be getting a BBX later on when the price drops a bit, I might buy an aftermarket gear diff, I can spend the bearing budget on the diff, ha ha... Funny, I was also thinking 4000kV, good to see you also like it that way...
@RCTNT

Thanks! Yeah spider gears are probably best. And 4000kv 👌 You'll love it

To me this gem just misses a slipper to be perfect. Tamiya has a option for that. 4x2 old classic buggies configuration are a ton of fun to drive, especially with today sensored brushless !! (And without sensor too) I LOVE IT

I instantly regretted building mine over Xmas without proper tools, only the small allen keys provided, which ruined a bit the experience of what otherwise must have been an amazing build. And still, I don´t hate it. I didn´t find any issue with the ball diff, but I always read people having issues with them in forums. I also own a handful other cars with them and still nothing. Fingers crossed! Now I need to finish painting and getting some electronics to really enjoy it. And after today´s vid, even more. Looks like a ton of fun!!

Good morning . Tamiya, these are and will remain my favorite kit even if the quality is not necessarily there. A Tamiya kit is a Tamiya kit, everyone should ride one at least once in their life. I like these little buggies for something different but the electronics and battery are so tight fitting ….not a lot of room. Couple buddies of mine were talking about setting up a track to race these old school type rigs…might still get one if there’s a call in the future…..nice review as always..
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 4 месяца назад
There's a huge space for the battery but it's a bit fiddly to get it in and out, I guess. But the real restriction is that esc tray. I forgot to mention the shroud in this video but the naked fan still looks good. It's a decent buggy, fun to drive and smoooooth 😎

I am not a fan of ball diffs (Tamiya ones seem to be prone to breaking especially as the plastics age), so I opted for the gear diff in my BBX. I also opted for the slipper clutch as well. Cheers!

Yeah i think spider gears are the way to go, though my diff has been okay since my fix. Great buggy otherwise, eh. Wow.

I fell in love with this car the day it was announced nearly a year ago. Still don’t have one. We just don’t have any usable loose surfaces to drive on. But it still is very high on my bucket list.

Pretty sweet little buggy! It's not really my fancy though, I'd rather go for a rally given those conditions but to each their own, of course. I almost got the Tamiya Ford Escort on the MF01 chassis a few days ago, but didn't feel like doing the whole build process this time. Spent a little more on a RTR and really happy with it.. just waiting for the proper batteries to arrive tomorrow.

What a great looking buggy! If you don't need waterproof, I bet a Hobbywing Justock 10.5 combo would be great in this on 2S, and it's a really economical option. Then again, your esc with that spare motor is probably even cheaper :)
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 4 месяца назад
Haha yes, in this case my combo was cheaper again. The justock combos are good, but these HW combos (BL120 ESC and various 3660 motors) are arguably better value for bashing: asiate.es/aff?l=214228&i=76070
@Andy_Yates
@Andy_Yates 4 месяца назад
@@RCTNT Agreed the BL120 is hard to beat for a 2-3S vehicle if it fits where you need it. Sensored operation in the original version and really affordable
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 4 месяца назад
For sure. The QuicRun combos I meant aren't sensored but they're very good, all the same. I've used them exclusively in the SCT kits I've done recently, including the Hobao and Tekno cars. I really like them.

Not really a fan of the materials that Tamiya uses but you can't argue with the styling and nostalgic factor ( even though i was way too poor to have a Tamiya as a kid)
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 4 месяца назад
I'm generally of the same opinion but the bbx seems to be quite durable. It's had many tumbles and bad jumps, rough gravel, etc, and it's all good so far
@muskokamike127
@muskokamike127 4 месяца назад
Yes, for the amount you spend on their kits you'd think they'd have some better quality parts but...those are all sold as "upgrades".
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 4 месяца назад
The kits themselves aren't usually overly expensive, compared to others. Maybe that's just in Australia given our trade with Japan being close and considerable. A big RC brand that's cheaper in Australia than in the USA for once, lol

@RCTNT 4 месяца назад
Haha right, yes, I'm familiar with that buggy but not with how bad it apparently is! I remember looking at it me considering it as a teen, but I'm glad I went with a Stadium Blitzer instead, by the sound of it!
@muskokamike127
@muskokamike127 4 месяца назад
@@RCTNT the biggest issue is the frp flat deck chassis and the flex. The front "axle" is connected to the rear by the styrene body which breaks off the first good jump. Then the swing arm rear suspension doesn't go up and down, it is in an arc. then the clip on plastic tie rod ends that are useless after clipping them on and off to adjust toe in/out or if you take a good jump. The torsion bar rear suspension wasn't adjustable and it was bouncy as all get out. I eventually dumped the styrene body and made a frame out of brass tubing (I could solder it), I'll email you a pic, oddly enough I have it sitting on top of my kitchen cabinets lol
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 4 месяца назад
Nice job keeping it going. Sounds like it wasn't really thought out too well, which is a shame. Good design can make owing a model really rewarding
@muskokamike127
@muskokamike127 4 месяца назад
@@RCTNT well, all the old tamiyas weren't all that well thought out lol. The quality of the castings etc were great, but the overall design/engineering wasn't. but it's the same with anything, things improve with R and D.
