** There's an editing issue @ 11:47 for about 20 seconds. Sorry about that, gang, this video seemed to want to fight me the whole time! Lol!**
I guess it's time to admit I was wrong... I had written off the FR setup in the BT-01. It just didn't seem to make sense to me at the time of building. After seeing REX RC's (shout out to ‪@rexrcs‬ ) try all three setups on his local track, and embrace the FR setup, I figured it was worth a shot.
The FR configuration gives the BT-01 an authentic front engine, RWD sports car driving experience like none other. It really feels like driving a 1/10th version of a 90's Muscle Car.

Goose-Pooptastic baby! What a great video, wrenching AND a bit of cool RC running AND a lovely wifey with her Lunchie! What's not to like, Fil?!?!?! But wow, I was hoping for this result with the FR setup and by the smiles on your face I can tell it's the way to go! I was SO reluctant to try this setup, and I'd almost given up on these new platforms from Tamiya. But the FR saved the day!!! It's just a much more authentic driving experience. Really very similar to driving a real Supra, I'd imagine. Throw a little Lunchbox action in there, and we've got ourselves a video! Haha! I think you'll enjoy the BT-01, dude. Tidy up the slop, tune the suspension, put some good tires on it, and she's a winner! 🤩👊🏼

I will be picking up my BT-01 today from the post office. I will have to wait a few more weeks as here in Alberta we still have the cold weather and that snow that goes with it. Glad you like the FR setup, kind off makes sense that this is the most fun, one set of tires doing one steering and the other set putting the power down. Great video 👍

Hey, you guys made me try the FR setup on the BT-01 and you were all bang-on correct about it! I think that means the MB-01 gets one more chance at glory! Haha! I think I'm going to try the rear motor, up high this time. See if that gets more traction over the back wheels. 👍🏻

@@poorboysrcYAS! even Tamiya specify to run the high motor on lower traction surfaces. So maybe a very twisty and not as grippy (wet day? Some tight carpet track?) should be the right scenario for it 👌🏻

Looks like Rex was right mate.. that guys well clued up when it comes to car set ups and tuning, he knows his stuff! Like you, I'm starting to really appreciate the ingenuity of this chassis design, it really is remarkably clever..... and Tamiya have obviously thought 'outside of the box' which is very refreshing. A great car for tinkerers I would say, and loving the two screw simplicity. Great to see Mrs poor boy back on the channel (don't think we've seen her since the lunchbox time trials?) It's always cool seeing the girls join in with the fun, rather than moaning about our 'stupid' hobby as most of them do! That thing looked like a fun drive in that set up, the 21 turn motor definitely bought it to life.... the stock silver can on the previous video looked way too slow. And, fair play for dropping in the 3s.....just need to glue those tyres now..... but don't sniff them anymore, goose crap has contaminated the natural aroma! 😂 Great run buddy! 👍 👍 👍

Yeah Rex was bang-on, dude. That FR setup was a ton of fun. Thank goodness I don't have to drive a FWD Supra! Hahahaha!!! 🤣🤣🤣 Mrs. Poor Boys had a blast, too! She's a little on the shy side, so we don't get to see much of her on the channel, but I'll keep working at her. She's a lot nicer to look at than my mug! 🤣 I'll keep away from those Goose poop infested tires. Time to sniff some Clod tires to get the odor of Goose crap put of my nostrils! 🤣👊🏼

Ran the tires right off of it! I kind of like the wobbly drive of the new setup! Sadly it is going to take a while before I get mine, it got placed on back order and I am going to have to wait for the next shipment of them. I will have to enjoy the MB01 for now! I am glad you two got out for some fun!

Crap-tastic tire explosion! Don't go sniffing them tires now! All poop jokes aside, It looks like the new motor woke it up, and the 2s seems to be the sweet spot of handling (?). This weight balance set up looks to handle pretty dang good and looks awesome while doing it! Cheers dude!

Awesome Fil. Great to see y’all out there testing. It’s great that the kit has three options in one box. Love the body roll on 2S and it absolutely looks like a drivers choice setup. On 3S the body roll and 180° spins with a tire throw is movie worthy. Jest need some movie adrenaline music and maybe some deckels once the fecal matter has been removed. Looks like a minor editing glitch around 11:47 but less than 20 secs. Just shifted the image. Been there done that - my video is still posted. It is what it is. Great video and thanks for sharing all three options.

That's such a bizarre glitch, I don't even know how to fix it! Lol! My file on my PC doesn't do this... 😮 I blame all the Goose poop! 😂

@@poorboysrc I think that is a reasonable assumption. My glitch was with DaVinci layer settings when I went to put a soft border around the frame and had selected the wrong video clip ending up dragging the bottom border up and leaving black space. But goose poo seems more likely - that unmistakable aroma. 😆

Nice, have fun with the build. Grab so.e bearings and TT02 steel suspension balls if you're waiting to build. That'll help get rid of some of the slop right away. 👊🏼

Yeah I was too! The battery up high increases body roll, but it also places a lot of weight on the rear tires for excellent traction. 👌

I was already interested in the BT-01 for it’s convertability. Your experimentith front-motor, rear drive, sealed the deal for me. It’s going to be my first 2wd Tamiya TC since tamiya stopped producing the FF01 somewhere around 1995. The Castrol Civic became quite notorious in our club. I beat the snot out of 4wd tc’s. Got banned consequently, until we could start our own 2wd FD class :p. Shame it never really caught-on overhere. And the slop? Not a ‘problem’ but a ‘challenge’ (ugh.. I sound like our management when thèir choices f-up òur infra.….) Imma gonna tackle that one. By the by, if You want to try an actual ‘comp’ 2wd chassis that’s àlso crazy versatile, try the MST-TCR 2wd, if You can get yer hands on it. Tight fit’ doesn’t even begìn to describe that one. It’s a rather bizar, spartan design, but whooboy does it run.

You'll have your work cut out for you trying to get the slop out, but it sounds like you're the right person for the job. I wish you luck! I haven't tried that MST chassis yet, but I might give it a go down the line. With the summer months around the corner, we'll be doing lots of filming outside now! 🤗

Took me a while to get the FR setup but it’s in. Not going to brushless though for both of my BT01. Already have yeah racing oil dampers coming. Ball bearings are already in. Bought HPI Racing grip tires with tire foam(hate Tamiya radials even when I was a teen). Just need to wait for some alloy upgrades in the future. Need electronics ASAP. 👏🏽👏🏽

Great, it looks like this setup is the best or nicest 👌 That drive shaft was really really tiny 🤏You really need 3 types of this chassis so you don't have to screw so much :) Maybe you can do this config to your MB01 too ?

Just a teeny tiny little shaft! 🤣🤣🤣 The MB-01 has another setup option that I didn't use, but it's not FR. It's still rear motor, RWD, but the motor/gearbox is clocked 45° so the motor sits up high (kinda like the BT-01 battery). I have to try it. 👍🏻

@@RCMadUK yeah me too! I've done a lot of searching and still nothing out yet. But the TT02 steel suspension balls are apparently a direct fit, and remove slop. So I've got them on order along with shims and bearings. 👊🏼

Thanks dude! I'm really happy with how they turned out. I've got to update my merch shop with the new logo shirts. I wanted to try a few before I put them out to the viewers. As for the setup? FR is my favorite! It's not going to be the fastest on a track, I don't think. But I love the way it drives like a real muscle car. I've never had an RC car feel that way. 👊🏼

You need to get rid of the slop in this car and the mb01 use those hop-up parts that fits both of them and try the mbo1 again in rwd to see if it will perform better.

Great fun vid apart from the poop!!!!!! Iol that car did look great fun in that set up like that! Great to see your wife in on the action she was given it large with that LB! Tell me something mate did you make her come along Fil or does she generally like RC? Iol l ask because l would love to know the secret ingredient to get the wife involved! We went to the beach together for some rc fun many years ago and she did have a go and had fun until she drove my FAV right into the sea that l honestly didn't mine it was all waterproof but it put her off or she just used that as a excuse to get out of it and going with me again? Iol she does like my Frog because of the pink! I asked her what's her favourite in my collection and she said the Frog! Its a start right? It was a poopy day, James. Haha. But that's the price we pay for making content in a timely manner. 🤣 My wife loves to RC! She's got the Lunchbox, a TRX-4, a CC-01 and an Aarma Typhon. The Lunchbox is her go-to though, it's the most enjoyable. She's not that big on repairs and maintenance. So I sub in for her when that's needed, keep her rigs running silky smooth! 😁👊🏼

Why not install a differential in the front and rear? Seems like less work. Then all you have to do is remove the dog bones to the wheels.

This is how the kit is manufactured, so it's the way I'll present it here. Moving the diff takes the removal of 4 screws, and about 2 minutes of time, so it's not bad.

Good call, this is a bit of a squirrely chassis. Let me know how it works out, as I'd be curious to understand how the sloppy nature of the chassis is handled by a gyro. I bet it would really help. 👍🏻

@@robertshelton2605 I did some swimming on mine, bit the crutch is that the chassis uses steering components on all 4 corners, exposing it to excessive play. It kinda tracks all over the place, so it's a bit of a handful to drive.

Rally, yes. 4WD, I don't know. Adding another diff is easy, but getting power to it is the challenge. 🤔

I have a BT-01 with front motor rwd and it's utter garbage ! So much play in the rear that it crab walks. This is the only chassis I've considered throwing in the bin from Tamiya.

Yeah it can be pretty bad! I'm working on tidying up the slop with some parts I've ordered. Fingers crossed! 👊🏼
