Tamiya has always been ahead of its time. I built this kit in the 70's and rebuilt it very recently. Always with the same pleasure.

I would love to see one of the manufacturers (preferably Tamiya) do a Dad's Army special tribute kit. Corporal Jones's van, with Capt. Mannering, Jones, Fraser, and Wilson in plastic, and Hodges, the vicar, and the verger in resin. Great diorama subject for old dinosaurs like me.

Hi Peter. Truly a classic kit from my yoooth. I never got round to making thi kit but I did make the Italeri commando Jeep ( basically a SAS Jeep in N.W. Europe ). That was a nice kit with plenty of stowage. You can get these kits very cheaply these days. Mind you I can beat that. I managed to get a Esci Sd.kfz 10/4 the other night at my club for nothing, zilch ! Plus two Tamiya figure sets, result. Mind you I did say that I would not 35th scale anymore. But I couldn,t resist a freebie. So that is now in the pipeline. Its not the best kit of the Demag but I like a challenge. Anyway ,good video and a great subject. Cheers mate.

A classic and beautifull kit and a comparatively easy one.

I first saw this kit, at the Squadron shop, in Philadelphia, Pa, probably 1976! It’s been on my list ever since! Currently,life has passed, and I’m recovering from a stroke. (Lived!) despite a paralyzed left hand, it’s still “on my list.” Thanks!

As an RN who works in Rehab, long term care, I can give you some advice, having a stroke has a detrimental effect on your determination and perseverance. So, you must overcome that issue and you have to get MEAN, determined and laser focused on recovery EVERY DAY !! I mean like a Marine Corps recruit dedication !!

For a 50 year old kit, this is pretty nice. I particularly like all the accessories they have provided in it; if you don't use them all on this one model you have lots of items you can use in a diorama or to place in the back of trucks or other vehicles.

It was cool that you could buy the now rare-as-hen's-teeth Matchbox LRDG kit, and these Tamiya gems. Still an excellent basis for a top shelf model, with a little updating.

Good timing Peter I’ve just finished this kit this morning (assuming the diorama terrain dries ok 🤞). Nice basic kit with potential for weathering and options for plenty of stowage and cheap. I might post some pics on the Flory site later.

Just in the process of finalising the LRDG Chevi on my holidays in far north Queensland! It is a lovely classic kit. Have the Jeep built and stowed away in storage but I may take you up on the suggestion of an LRDG desert diorama!
@garfieldsmith332
@garfieldsmith332 Месяц назад
@@hermannjoseph That is what I intend to do. I have the LRDG with the figures. The original is OOP. Will probably build 2 of the jeeps as there is 3 configurations shown in the instructions. Will make a nice diorama, My last one was the USS Buckley and a U-Boat in a scene from The Enemy Below. . Another idea I am pondering is a diorama from Sea of Sand. Saw one of a scene from Ice Cold In Alex.

This was one of the Tamiya kits that looked so cool to me as a kid, probably due to the swashbuckling crew figures! I had the LRDG Chevrolet which was very nice and the first kit I’d ever seen with actual rubber tyres.

the only difference from the one in 91 is the flash on the moulding, I'd almost forgotten the amount of stowage it came with, or the sensible advice about credit cards. very based. the thing I remember was how much fun it was piling on the stowage, this is an awesome second kit for the young'uns

The only real criticism I have of this classic kit is the jerrycans need a third handle, the figures, do require a bit of manual labour to re-carve detail lost to seam lines, and that damned Condenser can that refuses to stay glued to the correct place regardless of the amount of glue involved. Otherwise it's a fun build for any age, especially since you can still pick it up for less than £12. 👍

On the Chassis is the engine, 3 speed transmission and transfer case (that large portion that sits crossways behind the transmission). The jerry cans provided really let that kit down. Either a newer set of Tamiya jerry cans OR an older set of Italeri jerry cans would fill the bill nicely, also the Italeri set give you parts to build a jerry can rack in the back of your Jeep. That always confused me Tamiya shows the proper jerry cans on the front of the box but yet put garbage jerry cans inside. I remember being exited when I first purchased the kit back in the 70's hoping they got away from those dreaded jerry cans when I saw the box, but alas it was not to be.

Now I have the model in my 'stash' & I only bought it to really de-SAS it to a regular jeep, as it was cheaper than that version. Also I intended to change the characters to be more like Tintin et al. as in Destination Moon. Still to do so though. That's the problem with 'stashes'.

4:41 Actuuually, it is pronounced just like Willis but spelled with a Y of course. Now you can impress all your friends😃.... Are both the one on the box side and the kit itself really Willys MBs or Ford GPWs? Ford and Willys are slightly different but only detail fanatics can find out.

2 things Peter. This kit is NOT the same Jeep kit as the latest Tamiya version of the Jeep, Kit 0219. It was the same as the old Tamiya kit of the Jeep, which included the trailer. The newer kit is much more detailed and a joy to build. The second thing is the jerry cans. Once you see what's wrong with them you can't unsee it...they only have 2 handles. WW2 jerry cans always had 3, as do any modern metal jerry cans. The old Tamiya jerry can set also has those awful jerry cans with 2 handles. Newer Tamiya kits get it right, but any of the old kits should have the cans replaced or modified. For the life of me I don't know why Tamiya keeps selling them. I know it sounds nit-picky, but I can't unsee those awful jerry cans! LOL

I watched 10 minutes of the drama series Rogue Heroes, they used pop music as a soundtrack, it was incongruous, lost interest after that. Much better is the BBC4 documentary series by Ben Macintyre about the Rogue Heroes which featured interviews with David Stirling.
