This second video completes the Lunchbox build and includes such things as modifying the battery tray for a Lipo, waterproofing the receiver and more. It's a bit of a long video but I didn't want to have a part 3 so get a drink and some snacks before starting this. As ever thanks for watching :-)

I can only repeat what i said on Part1 of the Build. Genius! I will use nearly all of your Tipps and Mods to rebuild my Lunchbox. I really like that cheap but awesome mods, to make that little model more durable and less prone to problems when i take it with me on next Holiday. Hope you dont get eye cancer of reading my english Vielen Dank und schöne Grüße aus Deutschland! :)

Your beach vids sold me on getting a lunchbox, I live by the beach, and want a hobby I can share with my girls. And now I’m going to build us the ultimate modded brushless, lipo powered beach bashers! Thank you very much!
@PeteWylieRC

Ha so I'm doing Tamiya's advertising for them 😀 Glad you liked the videos and hope you enjoy the Lunchbox once built. You couldn't not really. Best when the tide is out so you've got the smooth wet sand. I would say that it's not advisable to run them into the sea. Despite the brushless sets saying waterproof, some water can seep into the motor and rust the bearings. Check the rubber seals where the wires go into the motor for gaps but mainly don't drive in the sea. Other than that, enjoy! 😁

Pete Wylie RC Videos thanks, will do. I’m planning on building at least two, luckily Swansea bay has a very shallow beach, and the tide goes out a very long way giving us a lot of real estate, but I wouldn’t put it past either of my two, to still manage to find the sea 🌊🚐 That’s if I let them have a go 😁

Gosh Pete - that's a long one - fnar fnar! And boy did I wince when you chopped the wibbly wobbly clean through! ARRRGGGHHH! Thanks for the mention! I really enjoyed this video, what a treasure trove of info! Lots of great stuff, like the uses of the Abro Steel and the Sugra. You did a great job on the build, another brilliant Lunchie to bash again - have fun with it matey! :-)
@PeteWylieRC

Ha yeah it's a long one but I had a lot to fit in! I did feel bad about snipping a wibbly wobbly when I know that you love them so much. I think that like cutting Sampson's hair, cutting a wibbly wobbly is the way to take away Mark Bryan's vitality 😂. Anyway, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching as I know you haven't got one of these to build (but you really should have!) I'm just building the Yeti which is flipping complicated compared to the basic Tamiya kits. I'm actually looking up build videos for it and luckily someone has done a really detailed one. Hope you're having a good evening mate. Got any plans ?
@MarkBryanRC
@MarkBryanRC 5 лет назад
@@PeteWylieRC Haha - yeah, I already feel weak after seeing the majestic wibbly wobbly reduced to a stump! The Yeti build sounds interesting - good luck with it mate. Just chilling on the tube at the minute - then it's my turn to cook (Mark's Stir Fry Tuesday!) and maybe a movie with the family. Elle, my daughter is back for the Summer, so a full house again, and an overloaded kitchen sink, bathroom and shower, plus a bulging washing basket! Kids! Who would have them? :))

@@MarkBryanRC Sounds like fun. Yeah I think that this kit is probably more like the XV01 in complicatedness. Oil filled diff and all that. Ric keeps asking if it will be finished soon to test against his FTX Outlaw and I'm thinking that at the current rate of progress it will be another month! Enjoy your evening :-)

Hey Pete. I am building my Lunchbox today, with plenty of metal putty and gallons of weak lemon drink. Thanks for the mod tips! I have a Kamtec/Parma basher shell which I may turn into a Mystery Machine (and have the stock Lunchie/Vanessa body as the shelf queen body).

Mr W. You've excelled yourself once again with the tips n tricks for the Lunchbox. I did cross my legs when you cut the wibbly wobbly tube though. Shame on you. I run my 2.4g up the tube so it doesn't swish around in the chassis with the rest of the wires but each to their own I suppose. I'd be looking at a couple of hours drive if I visited your neck of the beach as it looks perfect for my Lunchy, VW transporter and MK1 Escort (all CW-01 chassis) to hack across. Thanks for uploading your tips, much appreciated as always. Have a good weekend. Pete

Many thanks. Yeah I did always want to do a Lunchbox mods video so building the new one seemed like an ideal opportunity. I did poke the receiver wire up the shortened tube after cutting down the length but didn't show it on camera. I don't want my tiddly widdly flopping about all over the place! Yes the beach is great for the Lunchbox for all the reasons I mentioned in the review video. Are you near this area (Bournemouth)? There are some great RC spots around here and the New Forest. Anyway, thanks again for watching and your kind comments 😀

@@PeteWylieRC You're welcome young man. I'm nowhere near Bournemouth!! I live in Kent but visit Hastings for my beach therapy... A day out is always good fun. A flask of coffee an some sarnies and I'm in my element. My Mad Bull runs a 20t and nippy but nowhere close to the MK1 with the thrust. Oo er Mrs!! I think we're in for a late summer but don't quote me on that. Cheers again for the tips.

Good idea using a balloon for the receiver box.

Yeah or what I tend to do these days is to put glue over the circuit board. I guess the advantage of the balloon is that it doesn't invalidate the warranty. Many thanks for watching.

Hi there. Oh that's a cool present to get! Yes there are plenty of videos about the lunchbox to have a look at before you get stuck into the build. It's worth doing most of these mods to make it a bit more reliable. I'm in Bournemouth. Where abouts are you? Cheers for watching. Much appreciated 😁👍👍

@@PeteWylieRC The build is under way! I'd forgotten how much fun Tamiya kits are. Have started incorporating your mods but haven't started painting yet due to the weather. I think Bournemouth isn't far away from where I am in Portsmouth. Do you ever race at clubs or do you just head out locally? Maybe when the weather clears up a bit we can go for a lunchbox cruise one day! Hope you had a great Christmas mate.

Oh yeah it was the Lunchbox that got me back into it about 11 years ago and I haven't looked back. I just do RC driving for fun and haven't been to a club. There is a place called Holmsley in the New Forest that a few of us meet at when the weather isn't crap. Give me a shout if you fancy a trip over there sometime. Many thanks. Oh the seawater isn't a great idea really but if I do happen to run it in the sea I just rinse it with clean water when I get home and then put a little WD40 on the screw heads and the hub bearings. The water doesn't seem to get into the gearbox in my experience. Many thanks for your comments 😀

Hi there, these are great mods. Have to get that two component hmm stuff for the wheels. Actually, I was surprised to see you are using the 10T pinion gear. I screwed the motor directly to the gear box (without that plastic part D2 in between) and took a 18t pinion (Hornet set-up). Used a 10,5 brushless motor and a Nimh battery - and the Lunch Box went slightly mad already. But I guess with 18t pinion and lipo the car might just explode. And - of course, here is a question. You are using a shorty lipo with bullet connectors in it - don't you have issues when running through (or into) the water? Or doesn't it matter, as the bullets are some 5 cm apart? (I am not too well-versed in electr(on)ics). Many thanks - and keep doing these awesome videos.
@PeteWylieRC
@PeteWylieRC 3 года назад
Hi there. Well with the standard pinion and 3500kv brushless set it goes 25mph which is fast enough for this one I think. Gives good acceleration and very useable all round. I haven't had a problem with the battery going into water. If you've seen my other videos you'll see that it's been in the sea a few times too. Would kill the battery if it was in there for a long time but so long as it gets dried off after it's ok. Many thanks for your comments 😀
@rcunrat2215
@rcunrat2215 3 года назад
@@PeteWylieRC Hi again, thank you! Indeed, 25mph are fast enough. I will put in the standard pinion again before using a lipo battery - and will try to keep Lunchie from going for a swim ;-). All the best - stay safe.

Can you explain why my steering circle is so limited Its adjusted on the rc but it hits the suspension arm
@PeteWylieRC
@PeteWylieRC 2 года назад
Hi there. It's hard to say if you have an issue without seeing it. I just checked mine and if you steer fully in one direction and drive as slow as you can in a circle then the turning circle is about 5 feet. If you drive fast then the turning circle is enormous because the front wheels barely touch the ground. To get it to turn sharper you need to use the brakes to slide the back round. Not sure if that helps?

@PeteWylieRC
@PeteWylieRC 3 года назад
Hi there. The pre-wired led light sets are from China via eBay. Just look for the ones that have 2 X 5mm white lights and 2 X 3mm rear. No branding on these. Also no branding on the car number plate tape. Also called double sided foam tape. I'm using the 25mm width. Many thanks for your comments 😃

I just picked up three vinage blackfoots i'd like to add lights to them once i clean them up....im new to the electrical modding. I always just toyed around with old radio shack carsand older traxxas. I know i sound stupid after watching this but how do i tie into the dc system lol. Thanks
@PeteWylieRC
@PeteWylieRC 3 года назад
Hi there. 3 Blackfoots, wow! The led light sets that I use have a plug that goes into a spare socket on the receiver. This is 6 volts I think. You can solder a couple of new wires directly into the battery cable on the ESC and run the lights from that so long as they are ok with 7.2 volts. I'm not sure if there is a limit to how many LEDs you can run from the receiver but I've run 8 bulbs without issue. Hope this helps 😀

@PeteWylieRC
@PeteWylieRC 3 года назад
Well I have never put a covering on them. They are ok with being wet for a little while and then dried later. If you immersed them in salt water for a long time then it would kill them so don't do that! A bit of a splash in the sea is ok and then rinse with clean water and dry after.
