Welcome to Part 4 or our Tamiya TT-02 vs XV-01 Lancia Delta Integrale series of videos. Now that Rob has finished modifying his TT02, we continue the battle with the stock XV-01 and head to the park for the second of 3 rally stages. The cars go head to head, rally style, to see how close in performance they now are.
Stay tuned for the final, Part 5, when we show rally stage 3, and see who is victorious!
Many thanks to my friend Rob for all his input in this video series - check out those TT02 mods on his channel here: / @robbrennanrc

Hehe, Carsten! TOP GEAR! What an honour to be compared to one of my favourite TV shows! Yes, the TT-02 is soooo close, but remember it is hopped up and has a faster motor. The final test will be interesting, a much longer run around the Top Gear test track! Thanks for the awesome comment, I wish you a very peaceful weekend my friend! :)

As per my comment in part 3.. the TT-02 is a wild child. If there was a +2 second penalty for hitting a cone there would be a huge difference in times as the driver would have had to slow the car down a bit to keep it under control, where as the XV-01 did a fantastic job flat out. Also the XV-01 did not roll even when turning hard on the 180 turn. When coming back WOW you can see why to on the road to gravel corner. There is only a little under steer on the XV-01 where as the TT-02 well its like and old audi quattro from the 1980`s if you have ever driven one? haha there is very little turn in on tht TT-02 and it just want to go straight on when on the loose, to which the TT-02 did in the end sliding off. I think its clear to see that running a belt drive makes a huge difference on control response and handling, also having the motor over the front wheels has also helped get some weight down on the front wheels, which kinda shocked me, i must admit.. It would have been interesting for both drivers to do run with both cars, that might have taken out driver errors :P . Thanks for the video, it cleared a lot up for me, as i was looking to get a new chassis. And this part four has proved for me that the XV-01 is a clear winner. You have got to wonder now how much better it would be with hop ups added. cheers
@MarkBryanRC
@MarkBryanRC 3 года назад
Hello again, Jay! Yeah, if there were penalties, the TT02 would be way behind the XV-01! The XV-01 has more oversteer and it's very easy to control, I think it drives more "naturally" than the TT-02. You are correct, the way the XV-01 transitions from road to gravel, and vice versa, is so much better. Yes, the belt drive, front mounted motor and the oil filled diffs make the XV-01 a real smooth and quiet performer, it's a pleasure to drive! Of course - with a few hop-ups it could be even better, but the idea was to see if a hopped-up TT-02 could beat a stock XV-01. But we know the answer to that one! Cheers! :))
@jaybond9386
@jaybond9386 3 года назад
@@MarkBryanRC Over steer is a good thing on the loose ;) when i was rallying (fullsize a Mk1 group4 Mk1 escort) if you went diving into a corner hard chances were you would get under steer and go off, that`s why you might use the scandinavian flick on tighter corners as you know,to get away from that, and stops the car under steering and going off. So its a good thing really, only draw back is it slows the car down and you need to be driving the car through the corner (pointing towards the exit) as your doing it. You probably know all this already ;), but posting for those that don`t know ;) Yeah the time penalty thing is something we used to use on full size cars on a short single stage thing. Any person can drive flat out, but now do that under control, that is a whole different story. It also flagged up a cars failings. Thanks for the reply, Your video really helped me with a choice of chassis i need to get :) cheers

Mateys - I almost believe that the rollover of the TT-02s third run cost the Stage! I really believe it was quickest... Right up to that roll. 😳 You Lads sure are putting on a good show though!! 👏👏👏👏👌 I'm still amazed how well the TT-02 mods have improved its performance. ..... I also still think your XV-01 is too squirrelly in the rear. Could it be because that Chassis has so much front weight bias? I SO wish that my modified TT-02 can join in... 😖😢😢 Carmine ✈🚂🚙
@MarkBryanRC
@MarkBryanRC 5 лет назад
Yeah, Bro - it would be so cool if you could join in! GB vs US sounds like an interesting series! You may be correct about the rollover, but I think it only lost a second or so. They both felt fast to me, but maybe the TT02 had a little too much speed, this is a negative on the gravel. Yeah, the XV01 is a little squirrely if you are too aggressive with it, it needs a slightly different driving style, I had trouble switching between the 2, especially as my brain saw EXACTLY the same car!!! Cheers matey! :-)

I can surely imagine looking at both as the same Car!! 😳 I remember something from my M-03... Yeah Racing Rally Tyres. ✔ They look similar, but have a much softer Rubber Compound!! 👌😎 They only cost a *Little* more than Tamiya, wear out a little quicker.... But they're about 50X BETTER!! 👏👏👏😎 I didn't think as much about Rubber Compounds until I saw my first Competition Crawler Event. It truly makes a difference Brother!!

Hiya matey. I know, the Tamiya rally blocks are HARD rubber! But I found that the Chinese knock-offs are less than half the price and about 4 times softer! And that's complete with WHEELS and FOAMS! As you say, the compound makes a big difference, I'll be buying more very soon! Cheers Bro! :-)

Hey Mark! I do not own a TT-02 but I guess the XV-01 turns better and quicker and you can hold a drift better? I am so happy with my XV-01 that I see no need in adding a TT-02 to my car park. But different chassis are always interesting :D

Hehe - great observation, Ric! Too right mate - the harder I tried, the more the cars slid and the more mistakes I made. Hi Mark. I'm enjoying this series of challenges. I think that basically there isn't much in it so it's probably more down to which one you like driving the most which is the XV-01 from what you were saying before. Be good to see how it is with a quicker motor. I think that I will get the XV-01 but not until I've done the 4 kits I already have. Are the drive belts long lasting do you know? Also I can't remember if you managed to get a bit more ride height out of it. Need to refer back to your earlier videos. Anyway I look forward to seeing more stages of this content. Hope you're having a good weekend. Is is back to work on Monday or is it one of those insect days ?
@MarkBryanRC
@MarkBryanRC 5 лет назад
Hiya Pete. Glad you liked it mate. Yeah, certainly not much in it, it's all down to little differences in the handling, as I said before, I have been running my TT02 recently and the XV01 took a little getting used to, probably why my first runs with the TT02 were quicker! I must say though, I reckon I would beat both of these with my Type-S!!! For some reason, with the stock Torque Tuned motor, it goes like a rocket! So fast compared to the XV01. Plus the handling is spot-on, so maybe an idea for another video at some point! The belt in my XV01 is fine, not even had to retension it yet. But I do have the hop-up carbon reinforced belt in reserve. They are not too expensive to be fair. Yes, I got a few mm more height by fitting the optional longer shock bottoms (you get a choice of 3 lengths in the kit). Weekends good, thanks, back to school on Monday! :-/ Insect days?!?!?!

Hi guys! I'm building a XV-01 and I want to use a brushless combo motor/esc with 3s lipo. Which one could be a good fit (I know there is little room for the esc)? And how many turns for the motor? Thanks for sharing your upgrades and fun with us!
@MarkBryanRC
@MarkBryanRC 5 лет назад
Hiya Lucadoc Z. I truly think that a fast brushless setup using 3s would be too much! You would need to change to the metal differential gears and the carbon drive belt for sure. I reckon running 3s with the standard motor would be really fast! Also, the distance from the ESC to the motor is very long, you would need to make your own motor wires too. If you do go 3s and brushless, I would not go below a 13.5T motor. I also think you would need to leave the ESC cover off to allow an ESC with a cooling fan. I plan to upgrade mine to a 13.5T Turnigy Trackstar brushless (sensored) motor with the standard TBLE02 ESC but running only 7.2v NiMh!!! :-) Good luck with the upgrades!
