It is cheaper to maintan. You dont have to water it or cut it.

Since the team here was Major league team, one can assume that if they had a grass field, it would be properly maintained.

rays1118 I think they want to be able to practice with the same turf that Tropicana Field has to get used to it. It's kind of the same reason the Red Sox built a mini Fenway with a green monster and everything for their Spring Training facility.

It's pretty funny too, the class A affiliate of the Red Sox also play in a stadium built to replicate Fenway. Fluor Field, complete with it's own Green Monster.
