The Cardinals have been really good at trading for really established players (Goldschmidt, Arenado, Matt Holliday, Lance Berkman, etc) But it’s the potentially good players who have been horrible for them

The Rays are the one team where I'm never surprised where they're at in the standings, like if they're at the bottom of the East it's like "Yea okay, makes sense, they don't have a lot of money" If they're in the middle it's like "Yea okay, they've got some young guys that are still figuring it out." and when they're on top it's like "Yea okay, makes sense, they always get a ton of value out of the guys they run out there." Tampa is inevitable.

Choi trade gutted me the most (the one jersey I have). Wendle and Adames were also brutal as a fan. So glad to have Rasmussen and Feyereisen though, they have been stellar.

The Rays are a really easy team to like, especially when they were almost all pitching and defense and would pull out relievers you've never heard of who go on to shut down opposition. Hope they can finally break through and get a chip

I am highly offended that you didn't include the 2018 trade that sent Wilson Ramos to the Phillies for a PTBNL. I know it was intentional and I'm mad. Also, pretty surprised the Curtis Mead-Christopher Sanchez swap didn't make it in with Mead being their #2 prospect on pipeline and all.

heres the thing about that Archer Trade. us Rays fans wanted Archer gone, because we knew he was mediocre. so the fact that a team out there was so blind to that, and overpaid by THAT MUCH is what makes the trade so much worse. Archer was a glorified reliever with a 2 pitch mix

The criticism of the Pirates end of the Archer trade isn't unfair at all. Glasnow/Meadows/Baz have already put up a combined 12-13 WAR for the Rays, and all three will still provide value for years (with Meadows swapped for Paredes). Meanwhile, Archer gave the Pirates a measly 1-2 WAR. Archer would have had to pitch like an ace for this to have been a fair deal, which he never was. Really one of the worst trades in recent memory.

Yeah, it comes down to 1. that Pirates team was not THAT good, so investing in them as a sort of 'one piece away' team was not a smart move on that FO's part, and 2. even if they were better, Archer was on the downside of this career at that point and so was not the pitcher they should have been going for. They made a bad decision and then used that to justify making a worse decision, can't really praise a front office for that imo.

4:09 Awesome video, but after I heard this stat, I HAD to look it up to be sure. Glasnow did throw 111.2 IP in 2018. Although saying Glasnow has never thrown 90 innings for the Rays would be correct (56/55.2 split for PIT/TB in 2018). He also did come close in 2021 with 88 IP. All this according to Baseball Reference

There was a 3 team trade in December of 2018 that you didn't mention in full between the A's rangers and Rays where the rays got Emilio Pagan and Rollie Lacy. Jurickson Profar headed to Oakland and the rangers got Brock Burke Eli white Kyle Bird and Yoel espinal. Pagan and Burke came out and the two best pieces in the deal

The Tyler Glasnow to the LA Dodgers for Ryan Pepiot and Jonny DeLuca is helping both teams. Luke Raley to Seattle for Jose Caballero has worked out well for the Rays so far. The one trade we don't know how it is going to turn out is the Manzardo-Civale exchange. Civale has been good for the Rays, but we don't know about Manzardo yet.

I never liked the Archer trade for the Pirates because it seemed like they paid top dollar for a declining asset. Archer's slider was waning in effectiveness for a few seasons prior to the trade.

Jolly, I know this is weird, but could you do a video on Shawn Green? His peak was insane and he probably had one of the best peaks ever, but played in a stacked (and roided) AL in 1999 and NL 2000-2002 so he got snubbed from a lot of awards, and his peak lasted way too soon, could've been a hofer

It’s too bad Florida is just not profitable for baseball, I’ve always been a fan of the interdivisional rivals in the Rays as a Sox fan, probably my 3rd or 4th favorite MLB team. Even when they’re bad they always seem to sneak up on you unexpectedly and they’re always fun to watch every single year…. Could also just be the cool uniforms, I always like a good jersey

What skews everything is that the prospects actually get to play when they get traded to the devil rays. Just goes to show the difference between a major leaguer and a top triple A player is minimal.
