▶Tamron strikes again with another lens for the Sony APS-C / sony a6000 cameras! So sick. I was too pumped and decided to make a video talking about the details and features of the lens. Tamron also has an 18-200mm for sony APS-C which is much older. I'll list the lenses below if you want to check them out - affiliate links. Not everyone can afford full frame sensors and lenses. When you get them delivered free or they make money for you that's great but when it is just a hobby the full frame kit is out of the budget. It's nice to see Tamron bringing a strong lens for APS-C after I finish paying for my Sony Trio this is worth looking at.

If the IQ doesn't take a huge hit, this lens could give 18-135 a run for its money. A good opener from Tamron and a bright future for X mount. I hope the other 3rd party manufacturers won't let Tamron play alone in the Fuji field, so we'll get a healthy competition.

So glad they are launching it. I'm very practical/stingy, but recently moved from a TZ90 which I need out to a used A6000 with the 2 'kit' lenses you mentioned 16-50 and 50-210. I'm also facing the exact same problems you mentioned. I'm on a trail, taking pictures of my wife and dog and then a cool bird, snake or a kangaroo appears further away, so I hustle to changer the lens. Almost bought a used SEL18200LE, but looked dodgy, potentially with fungus... New Sony or Tamron 18-200s aren't exactly cheap here in Oz and used come up very seldom. Even started looking for EFS or F to E adapter and cheaper 18-300 or even 18-400 lenses, but there's compatibility issues or I arrive at the same preview with more expensive adapters like MC-11. The pre-order price seems enticing and much lower than you mentoned in your video, AUD900. I'm waiting for final pricing though, but am 'afraid' it'll be hard to resist :D

I really love the idea since I'm one of those who would constantly be switching but I really wanna see on how it'll perform being what it is! Would be really interesting even tho I've seen they have a 18-400 but not for sony. Would have been more interesting!

I used my Tamron 70-300mm to film another full moon this past weekend. Such amazing quality and I used it on my Sony a6300 so the focal length goes up to 450mm. Using 2x clear image zoom that doubled it to 900mm. The Tamron 70-300mm lens is fun to use and very lightweight. I have the Tamron 17-70! I found it used about two months ago for $689 and I got it! I LOVE this lens! I shot a small wedding with it and it's perfect for everything. I did end up missing focus a bit, but I don't know if it was the lens, the camera (I have the a6000), or me. All in all, the best lens I have!

Hey there and thanks for this advanced notice video because I was seriously considering the Tamron 70-300mm for my Sony a6000. I need a good lens for taking pictures of my daughter's soccer games. Will this new lens work for sports photography? If so, should I wait for this new Tamron 18-300mm or go ahead and buy the 70-300mm? Thanks in advance for your advice.

It will work for sports, outdoors and not so much for indoor. The 70-300 is a full frame lens. It can definitely work with an APSC camera like the a6000 but it would be much more zoomed in than 70-300 APSC. 1.5x as much. So for an APSC camera the 70-300mm full frame lens would feel like 105-450mm APSC lens. If you have the Sony kit lens, the 16-50, the new tamron (which is specifically an APSC lens) will be just like the kit lens, but a wider range at 18-300mm and much better quality. Hope this helps!

I'm planning to buy sony a6400 body only with sigma 16mm, sony 18-105mm and sony 70-350mm. Which lens is better sony 70-350 or Tamron 18-300? Btw i haven't buy anything yet.

That’s gonna be one heck of a kit! This lens isn’t out yet so it’s impossible to say, but it will be close in performance to the Sony 70-350mm G. The Sony has a longer reach and I’ve tested it and it is a fantastic lens. The tamron could surprise but the 70-350 by Sony is a top of the line lens. Depending on the price of the tamron (price not announced yet), it may save you some money. I put a link in the description for b&h where you can get alerted when it comes out. If you’re not worried about money and wanna rock two Sony G series lenses - go for it!

i have just purchased the 18-135 from sony, i guess i will be switching to tamron the next year after watch the reviews from this lens but its sounds like a nice all around travel lens. I hope the huge focal length range doesn't compromise too much the image quality. Greatings from Chile!

Love that APS-C is getting some love again. I prefer the size of the bodies and lenses in this format and nice balance of IQ and background blur. Will definitely be waiting on this lens.

I pre ordered ZV E10 with kit just cuz I have zero lens.but this tamron 18-300 must have and samyang 12mm auto focus too. With a sony APSC camera and this 18-300mm lens alone will let you start your own wildlife documentary channel..just saying..ridiculous miracle..i m pumped

Blurry in the viewfinder, or on the back of the camera screen? Or you load them to a phone/computer and they’re blurry?

Great review and after doing some research, I just realized something on the new Tamron 18-300mm lens after purchasing my Tamron 70-300mm. I am now considering sending it back for two reasons. The Tamron 18-300mm is listed as having VC (vibration compensation) which would be great for those who don't have IBIS. Plus it has a lower aperture at 18mm. I saw a demo video and the stabilization looked pretty good at 200-300m for other brands that don't have IBIS. I'm seriously considering returning and waiting on the new lens that checks a couple of additional boxes for me. Then again the VC may not be worth the wait. I really love my 70-300m and my Sigma 1.4 16mm completes my other needs. What are your thoughts? Thanks again for all these great videos. They always do a great job informing me of what I should do next.

you da man Chris! I think you should wait, I mean why unload the 70-300 and then be without a zoom? The 18-300 is coming in the fall. You may be able to do a close swap at a camera store.

@@kyletaggart I thought the same thing. I have a camera store client that would help me out. My guess is the new Tamron lens will be a few hundred more to compete on price with the G Master lenses. I just wish the Tamron 70-300 had VC.

I really want a mix of the Sony 18-105 f4 and the Tamron 17-70 f2.8. Large zoom range, internal zoom for gimbals, and an aperture faster than f2.8 would be really cool. A lens like this would definitely be versatility king.

I’m hoping to purchase the 11-20mm by end of summer as an alternative to Sony’s 16-55mm. It will be nice to have a “real” 16mm focal length on my APS-C and it will be my first (and probably not last) Tamron lens. Very impressed with them!

I'm kinda surprised they are making this since they already make the Tamron 18-400mm F/3.5-6.3 for aps-c for nikon and canon. They are very similar model since the 18-400 covers the same range and more.
