Reminder: Focus hold button can be programmed as a fully customized limiter switch via the Tamron Lens Utility. As well as be used for preprogrammed focus pulls and/or preset focus distances. Can also switch the MF ring to aperture diaphragm. You can also set the amount of mechanical rack distance for MF. Even use the app as a full digital follow focus rig, with stepless iris. The latest Tamron tech hidden under the hood is actually wild. This lens punches way above its weight. The 70-350 has fewer bells and whistles, really, save the lack of firmware block on fps. The 50-300 is even better weather sealed. There's nothing else quite like it that isn't the 50-400 (which has even more customizability) or, maybe, the new 28-300... Though the image quality will be better on the telephoto lenses, overall.

I really like the bird photos you've shown here, especially those of the blackbird eating from your hand... Definitely would like to see that 50-300 come to Fuji X mount, I so dislike all of their mid-to-long telephoto zooms.

Would love to see this lens against the 28-300 that’s just come out. I know that one’s slower but I shoot f8-11 on a tripod. Like to see which is sharper

In EU, the value argument flips on it's head with 50-300mm being priced at 900€. That makes this lens more than double the price of 70-300mm and only 200€ cheaper than 50-400mm. But this will hopefully get better over time as the lens is new and prices have yet to drop. Otherwise, image quality is sharp enough for this type of lens, but I do not like the swirly bokeh that can be observed at 2:31 because it is distracting and something you'd only expect in very cheap lenses these days. This same issue can be seen also in other reviews and it seems to get worse at longer end of the zoom.

Thanks for the great review....two things I have to say...I saw that the max reach although the 50 300 is sharpest at the max length it is darker. 2sd I still find a 24 105 100 400 setup to be better

Dommage de ne pas avoir comparé à la focale 300 mm, les "deux" objectifs :( sinon très bonne review ;) Il semblerait aussi que l'autofocus est plus rapide sur le 50-300 que sur le 50-400mm - Too bad not to have compared the “two” lenses to the 300 mm focal length :(otherwise very good review ;) - It also seems that the autofocus is faster on the 50-300 than on the 50-400mm ?

What's the sharpest lens in the range of 200-400mm focal length? Mainly for tight landscape photography to shoot snow capped mountains.

Limited at f6.3 at 300mm is pretty bad... I dont know why anybody would want this lens.

@@gaylengurr3911I have the 28-200 + 50-400. Personally, I'd pick the 28-200 over the 50-300 any day or the week. Sure, you'd lose 100mm on the long end, but you get the extra 28-49mm + a faster lens. IQ is close to the 50-400 on overlapping focal range.
