You're so cute oh my goodness, can't always plan a baby shoot, babies need time for feeding, crying , sleeping, you have to kind of roll with the punches and adapt to what the situation is what the baby is doing, every day is different.
I am just gonna shut the windows here to block out some of the natural light since we are using strobe, I like some mix light though so I'm not gonna shut all the windows
like to keep the lighting natural looking, when I'm using strobe I use a big soft box to keep it uuuumh natural
I also think the strobe is uuumh a lot of fun for the baby to see it go off and there are babies that get scared by it and in that case you adapt and use natural light
prior when I had the temperature of the room a little warm for you because it's probably better for the baby and a happier baby is better for the props
so props are really a great part of expressing your vision, I'm constantly on the lookout for new backgrounds, new flooring, new things to put the baby in or on, I have a lot of knit pieces that i order specifically for the colors that i want and and I build the color pallet that i want in the photo shoot
i like to keep things natural especially when you are photographing a naked baby, everything is , you want everything to feel really natural
tend to stay away from bright pinks and bright blues it's screaming baby shoot, it starts to look cheap, for me personally the more simple the better.
photographing babies at six months is really fun for me because they are squishy and cute and they are paying attention to your smiling and your cheering and the noises that you are making capturing that is a lot of what I think is really exiting about this age
you don't always get a baby like the one we got today ,sometimes the baby is not in a great mood but I can say I've never had it where we didn't get the shot, there is always a way to get a shot that you want, awesome you're awesome wooow.
I usually try to start of softly you are new to the baby and you've got a camera and there are a lot of things going on, so i try to start a little bit softly just try to get to know the child , i think it is important not to scare them because once they are scared there i a long turn around till you come back and they are okay again
towards the end I'm totally cookie and everything is going crazy
things that make kids smile i think really is just being as positive as you can be and not worrying about what you look like what you sound like
The interesting thing about being a photographer is that you are not the parent you are somebody that the child probably hasn't seen a lot it's something new and exiting for the child so today I was using the Tamron 24-70 f2.8 and the 90mm macro, I like to use the macro for detailed and the 24-70 gives me a really good focal range to work with
He's great Done and Done. Once you feel like you have the shot that you want it's good to move on to different scenarios that you had planned because babies are not gonna last for hours and hours. If you start the shoot and everyone is trying to make the baby laugh it tends to be overwhelming I think the baby and I think the baby melts down more quickly than when you as a photographer starts off being the one to make him laugh and smile and then invite the parents to join in s the shoot gets further on, once we get to that point its a great time there's a great energy in the room and the bay can really sense that and its all smiles.

Hi Marty, if you had a 24-120, would you still own a 24-70?
@whereru43
@whereru43 4 года назад
Lonnie Clemens , Well with my Nikon lenses I would say “yes” but only because the 24-120 i have is only like f 4.5 to 5.6 or so... The 24-70 is f2.8. But I LOVE the 24-120 range. Since I now also own Sony I have only purchased the 24-105 f4. With optical stabilized glass at f4 I figure i have the f 2.8 advantage covered. My favorite portraits are at f4 anyway. It is very duplicative but i love them all.

Is that the new 24-70 f2.8 with VC? How's the sharpness? There has been some mixed reviews regarding softness and vignetting along the edges.

Nice tutorial. I am of the opinion that natural light would be better. Don Woschto comments that the video looks better than the final still photos -- I agree. I kept thinking that a freeze frame of the video, of the baby, would look really great.

how many flash stands/lights would you use ? and would you recommend a certain lens? i have a 50mm 1.8G on my D5500 nikon (not full frame) I'm new to photography, but looking to get into portraits. (babies or adults) what type of light stand kit for beginners at home, would you suggest ? because i was wanting to keep costs down but came across this amazon deal... any suggestions on the link below ? www.amazon.ca/CowboyStudio-Photography-Photo-Studio-Umbrellas/dp/B008S1TQBC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1480285246&sr=8-1&keywords=photography+photo+studio+flash+mount+umbrella+kit

The picture is not an accurate depiction of the child. My comment has more to do with the editing than anything, hence why i quoted "IN THE PICTURE."

Hi , i just got a job at a photo studio and alot of kids come in often to do portraits, im a really calm person and everyone else there seems to be lively and loud. what advice can you give me to open up and get these kids to enjoy taking the the photos and how can i get them to laugh and show their smiles??
@andrewlaverghetta715
@andrewlaverghetta715 10 лет назад
Smile more, laugh more, you have to be a cartoon for kids. If the child is old enough to know what a high five is, I like having them give me a high five and then smacking myself in the head as if their high five was so hard that it hit me in the head.

Oh get over it. Strobes are fine for babies. The only reason many "newborn photographers" don't use them is a mix between cost and not knowing how to use them. That, and it's trendy to say you're a "natural light photographer."
@StefanHillen

i agree, 0 reasons not to use strobes as a professional that should offer consistent results and not depending on whether ! I've seen "professionals" that where "natural light " photographers and found out they just didn't know how to work with strobe .... (and i don't get this as it's not that hard to learn ! )

to be fair, dealing with your subject is 90% of the photographic process....getting your subject comfortable enough to pose/open up for a good shot is whats its all about (for portraits that is)

Actually, you are wrong. The flash duration is too quick for the eyes to react. We may be able to see the flash, but it is that quick there is no damaging effect. Proof of this is that the size of the pupil changed very little before the picture...and when the flash occurs.

Actually Javi is partially right. Pointing a bare flashgun or incorporated flash at a baby is not a good idea, However , this is safe. She's using a large softbox.
