Abdominal breathing is an essential practice in all Qigong traditions, since it is a simple and time-tested method to activate your lower Tan Tien energy center. The lower Tan Tien, located in the abdomen three finger-widths below the navel near the center of the body, is the center of gravity, the power storehouse and the source of physical vitality, emotional stability, and spiritual strength.
Abdominal breathing practice can activate and fuel up your lower Tan Tien fire. The diaphragms and the muscles of the abdomen get engaged, stimulating the flow of Qi in the lower abdomen. This flow of Qi helps to build up a reserve of vital energy. When you can gather and store Qi in your lower Tan Tien, you can access this energy later for healing, revitalisation, spiritual practice or just daily living. The energy that is not stored rapidly dissipates and cannot be used later.
By focusing your mind on the lower abdomen and the breath, you can develop a deep awareness and connection to the lower Tan Tien. You can actually feel a fire burning there. With regular practice, this heightened awareness can help to cultivate and strengthen the lower Tan Tien, increasing the flow of Qi throughout the body, promoting healing and a higher state of well-being.
The lower Tan Tien, full of warm and cultivated Qi, is one of the main secrets of Taoist vitality, internal power, rooting and longevity. And a simple abdominal breathing practice is a first step towards your Qi cultivation. We encourage you to try this practice now as Master Mantak Chia is showing in the video👆🏻Don’t forget to rest, smile and feel warm Qi in your lower Tan Tien!
You will soon feel how, by focusing on the deep breath and using it as a point of concentration, you connect with your inner self and the Universal forces around.
