Good objective discussion. He didn't talk about the shallow V hull. I had a canoe with this design. Secondary stability was amazing in rough water. I had to remind people getting into the boat to step only down the center or the thing would roll right over.
My bro has a Wenonah Jensen Kevlar 18 feet long and it weighs like 37 pounds! I can't wait till spring break when were going on a canoe trip with it for the first time! (we've had it for a few years but haven't gone on any trips in it) But yeah it is one freeking awesome boat!
Tumblehome makes no sense. If you have a flaired hull the sheer can be lower so as to not impede paddling. This also helps the boat handle winds better. It's also easier to load and has better secondary stability. Flaired is the best way, which is why it's almost never done.
It’s a shallow arch hull. The canoe in the video is a Minnesota 2, which is very similar, just 18 and a half feet instead of 17. Spirit II is a great canoe.
